Particularly, he focused on President Obama who is facing what he deemed to be an interesting and difficult dynamic in his second term — after being treated so poorly in his first. “In my toughest political battles, every time I won, the bigger the victory, the more gracious I was afterwards,” Scarborough said. “That’s how you get things done.” Later in the segment, referring to fiscal cliff talks, Brzezinski said, “A man in negotiations does not say to another man, ‘You’re going to cave.’ Ao you say that to another man in negotiations? And you think you’re going to get him to cave?” “This is all about men,” she added, noting that women would be more reasonable and “actually get something done.” “It’s going to be very hard for the president,” Scarborough said, especially after a big victory that followed four years of him being told he was an “illegitimate president.” He was told he was not a citizen, Scarborough said. That he was a a socialist, a Marxist, “that he wasn’t even an American.” “He has been knocked around and treated like a second-class citizen as president of the United States by a third of the American public,” Scarborough said. “And then he wins a big victory and immediately he’s hearing from people like us, ‘You’ve got to be gracious to those people.’ Politics is sort of a rough and ugly game at times.” The clip below, via MSNBC:

• Wow, did Joe Scarborough the Scrunchfaced Kobold just make sense?

• Joe has moments, which during the election were few and far between, where he is utterly sane and rational. And I appreciate that he manages to think for himself on a lot of issues, unlike the idiots on Fox and Friends who get their marching orders from Roger Ailes and then make sure to hammer the day's buzzwords as much as possible (I'm looking at you, Steve Doocey). And as long as no more than two of Tina Brown, Donny Deutsch, and Harold Ford are on the panel at a given time, they manage to have interesting discussions that are better than any of the morning shows on the other networks. Hell, as good as CBS This Morning has gotten, it's worth pointing out that they hired Charlie Rose and Gayle after Joe and Mika elected to stay on MSNBC.

• I watch both shows but Charlie and Nora are so much better than Joe and Mika.

• YES, R6. I agree. CBS morning show is by far the best of the three network morning news shows.

• I find Joe Scarborough to be super sexy.

• I can't believe this is the same guy who has such a hard on for Sarah Palin. What's his angle?

• I think he sees himself as a small "c" conservative. You know, the kind who actually want to govern instead of grandstanding. I think his hard on for Reagan is repulsive, and his stance on organized labor is disgusting, but at the same time, he isn't above calling out Republicans for acting like idiots, nor for giving Democrats credit for good things. He's always incredibly cordial and respectful to Democratic politicians when they're on as guests, which is probably why so many of them show up. I have to take points off for his abject hatred of Rachel Maddow (which I think is less because she's a lesbian, a liberal, or a woman and more because she's much smarter than he is), but I give him a lot of credit for being one of the few Contract With America Republicans who held to their pledge to only serve three terms. I couldn't vote for him, but I'm sure he'd be fun to go out drinking with.
