People with a portable external keyboard for their iPad
I'm so embarrassed for them.
Translated: I'm extremely envious of them.
OP
What's wrong with you, OP?
Some people need a keyboard if they're using an iPad for more than browsing porn and gossip sites.
you can't always get what you want, OP
OP, you're ridiculous. I'm in grad school and it's not at all uncommon here for people to use an iPad with external keyboard in lieu of a laptop to take notes. You can't really type fast enough to keep up with the lecture if you're trying to do it on a screen on your lap.
This thread is not going at all as I had planned!
OP
If you're going to use an external keyboard with your iPad, why not just use a laptop?
An iPad is more portable and lightweight, R6.
I mean, really. Some of you eldergay cunts need to find some new material already.
One of my doctors uses one. It looks tiny and cute. I don't have an IPad (I know ...DOH,right ?) ...but if I get one, I'd spring for the keyboard too.
I'm on the fence. Was reading another thread here about the Kindle Fire HD.
As I'm more about the media (music, movies, etc) --- It sounds like the Kindle Fire might be enough.
But I was an early buyer of the regular Kindle when it first came out and I got bored with that pretty quickly.
More portable and lightweight than a MacBook Air? I suppose so, but having to drag around a portable keyboard with the iPad kinda defeats the purpose, yes?
I don't believe r4.
R9, I have both a MacBook Air and an iPad (but no external keyboard). Not everyone wants to spend a minimum of $1K on a laptop, particularly if they don't really need any true "computer" functions like spreadsheets or PowerPoint. Also, the iPad is *much* lighter than even the Air; holding it up is basically like holding a magazine, and possible with only one hand, unlike any laptop. I could easily live without a laptop (and use a tablet exclusively) if I didn't have to do so much writing on it.
WTF, R10? What is so difficult to believe?
R4
Minimum of $1K? Only for Apple fanboys. The vast majority of us manage to make do with laptops and netbooks under $500 that can actually display a Flash website, unlike the overpriced iPad sans special apps.
I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess OP is an awful person.
No offense, but the external keyboard is sort of pointless. If you can't use the iPad properly, then why get one?
iPads are to receive, not to create.
OP is too busy listening to his Zune to respond.
R16 ... are you saying the IPad is a bottom ?? An insatiable bottom ???
I use my wireless keyboard not only with my iPad but with my iPhone as well. Some of us really use our devices for real work.
Hell, I use a Bluetooth keyboard with my MacBook, for when my hands are, um, sticky.
I have a wireless keyboard for my iPad, OP. It also doubles as a cover. It's perfect for doing things like taking to school - a lot lighter than a laptop, and takes up less space. So what's the problem with that?

Actually, laptop/netbook sales (and PC sales overall) are in free-fall because so many people are buying tablets instead (mainly iPads). Hell, even Google can't manage to sell its ridiculously cheap Chromebook; they just dropped the price to $99 for education users.

Using an RDP app to connect to my Windows computer over VPN is a huge pain without the wireless keyboard. With the keyboard, it's like I'm right there at my desk at work, wherever I am.
I don't understand what any of you motherfuckers are saying.

Wrong! The mobile versions of Pages, Numbers, iMovie etc. are surprisingly robust. The iOS Mail/Calendar/Contacts apps have perfect Exchange support. Messages and FaceTime provide seamless collaboration. There's very little you can't create on an iPad.
OK, admittedly you can't do a lot in the way of web design or coding on an iPad. I wasn't thinking in those terms.

iPad owners should try this. I think it's kind of cool, actually.
