George Will: 'Quite Literally, The Opposition To Gay Marriage Is Dying'
He continued, "On the other hand, they (the Supreme Court) could say it's now safe to look at this because there is something like an emerging consensus. Quite literally, the opposition to gay marriage is dying. It's old people."

- George is a huge fan of baseball too, so he's not all bad.
- Wait till the DL "Inaccurate Use of the Word Literally Hater Troll" sees this thread. It will literally be foaming at the mouth.
- More bad English from Will:

- This isn't the first time I've heard/read Will using "literally" too liberally.
- I'm pretty sure he's using 'literally' correctly here.
- It's redundant.
- You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you get what you need
- Impossible, he cannot have said this.
As everyone on the DL knows, ALL Republicans are the spawn of Satan, thoroughly evil and mendacious, incapable of uttering a single syllable of truth, and implacable opponents of all that is good and just in the world. They must each be killed with a stake through the heart.
- It's actually not redundant and it is used properly in this context. Think about it. It isn't merely that the anti-marriage sentiment is dying, but that the people with the anti-marriage sentiment are actually (literally) dying. Well said George.
- I'm sure it was an accident R8, and he started lying again immediately afterward.
- R8 Whatever!Go get laid or take your meds. Even the Repubs are coming around to reality. Gay marriage is becoming a norm and they(the Repubs) know that. If both Catholics and Mormons(that includes Mexican Americans who are mostly Catholic ) in California try to mount another anti-gay campaign in California again they will roundly be defeated this time. We're here, we're queer, we are your brothers and sisters and we aren't going anywhere.
- Is George just laying (pardon the expression) the groundwork for his eventual coming out? Maybe he wants to gay-marry Jeff Gannon?
- Except the idiot fundies who march in lockstep. There are some young dummies against gay marriage. You know because the bible?
- Republicans have published their official party platform this year and marriage is between one man and a woman. Republicans are the scum of the earth.
- Like Gannon would have anything to do with a dried biscuit like George Will.
- Gannon-whore; Will=money. You do the math.
- This is the equivalent of Lindsay Graham's "We're just not making enough old white men." (Which could have two thoroughly believable meanings, especially coming from Lindsay.)
- For a change, "literally" is being used correctly and not redundantly. The last line of the statement is "they're old!" which supports its correct use.
And what r9 said.
- Well, as my grandmother used to day "even a stopped clock is right twice a day."
- Join them, George.
I'm also tired of some liberals who are so desperate for approval from the right that they immediately go into a "he's not so bad" mode.
Yes, he is bad. None of those people are "good."
To be a Republican these days is to welcome ridicule.
- This is a correct use of "literally." People use "dying" as a political metaphor all the time: "Republican determination on taxes is dying." He is talking about old people kicking the bucket.
- ... it's not with Antonin Scalia, George.
