Sherlock fan art

For some reason I started looking at fan art this weekend and one thing that sticks out is that a lot of fans of Sherlock portray Sherlock and Watson as cartoony, kewpie-doll figures holding hands. What's that all about?

• I think it's echoing the Japanese "Chibi" art style which is very popular.

• R2 is correct, and if fanart isn't hopelessly bad, it's hopelessly derivative. But at least some of it's gay.

• Both the Sherlock actors seem like cranky curmudgeons so it's hilarious to see them made into cutesy little anime characters.

• Thanks R2. I thought they were trying to turn them into Hummels or something. What strikes me is that the fan art alternates between depicting explicit sexual or romantic relations between Sherlock and John, and these little chibi holding hands, or depicted as children, or as animals (Otter and Hedgehog, admittedly that is brilliant). I'm curious about the psychology behind that. Sherlock and White Collar "chibi". I guess any "buddy" show attracts this kind of attention.
