National Board Review Announces Winners.
Today between 12-2 EST.
The only smack down anyone cares about between Sally and Anne continues!
- The only thing "anyone" cares about is Annie -v- Sally?
"Anyone"?
No.
Merely those gay men who revel in any imaginary bitterly rankling fight between actresses.
What I care about is that the NBR, NYFCC and LAFC winners are substantially different so as to potentially permit an awards season which won't be a months long series of utterly boring rubber stamps.
Of course, in the case of DDL's unforgettable performance (the finest in one of the greatest movie careers), that rubber stamp is so clearly deserved that I wouldn't mind.
- r1 mistakenly believes her shit doesn't stink.
- Oh, calm down r1, you big Mary.
- R1 is right. Unless Diane Kruger is nominated, I don't care who wins Supporting Actress.
- BARBRA STREISAND WINS FOR THE GUILT TRIP!!!
- Well, 12-2 is over ... no information?

- Poor Anne. Part of an ensemble.
- I haven't seen Compliance but from everything I have read about it, Dowd is the star of the movie. Can someone who's seen it explain to me how hers could be considered a supporting role?
- Ann Dowd in COMPLIANCE???
HA!
BURN, Anne, Sally, and Barbra fangurls!
- I hope Anne and Sally will split the vote at the Oscars, and either Judi Dench or Jacki Weaver take the trophy. Or Amy Adams, but I have no real enthusiasm for her.
On topic: Cooper better than DDL has got to be a joke. Leonardo DiCaprio CANNOT ACT.
NBR is the body that always awards George Clooney for every film he's in, so that he'll come to their dinner.
They've done the same this year: DiCaprio and Cooper, ass-tonguing two STAHS and perceived hotties.
They're worse than the Golden Globes, really.

- [quote]Best Ensemble: LES JIZ
Bwahahhaa. Result of "give us something!" studio bribes, no doubt.
- Of the major awards, the NBR is always the least accurate predictor of the Oscars.
Still, Bradley Cooper over DDL? That really is weird.
- I saw Compliance, and Ann Dowd really is the star. They would probably claim the younger woman is, but Ann probably has the same amount of screen time and is in the last scene, which really sets the tone for the whole movie.
She's fucking amazing in it, though, so it's nice to see some recognition, but she's not supporting.
- Going for Bradley Cooper in Silver Linings Playbook is LAME. There are a lot of performances they could've honored, after DDL, without resorting to that. Joaquin Phoenix in The Master. John Hawkes in The Sessions.
What were they thinking?
- What Special Achievement in Filmmaking did Ben Affleck, erm, achieve in Argo? Did they say...?
- BUT AT LEAST HAM HALFAWAY DIDN'T WIN FOR LES JIZZZ!!!! HAHAHAHA
Deranged%20Sally%20Field%20worshipper
- I so can't wait for Oscar night to see if A Movie I've Never Heard Of wins Best Picture; and An Actor I Don't Care About Wins Best . . . zzzzzzzzzz
- If Dowd is not supporting, then she is yet another performance on the list (Cotillard, Riva, Mirren, Watts, Wallis, Lawrence, Chastain, Knightley, Winstead, Smith, Weisz, etc.) giving the lie to this constant b.s. that there were few performance by leading women this year worthy of oscar consideration
- [quote]What Special Achievement in Filmmaking did Ben Affleck, erm, achieve in Argo? Did they say...?
He got George Clooney to be his producer. As the Streep Troll said, this "critics" group fellates Clooney every opportunity it has.
- Anne Hathaway will be hosting a benefit brunch and meet and greet for the members of the Los Angeles Film Critics this thursday morning. She'll also happily sign dvds and pose for pictures with the critics family members.
Ms. Hathaway's publicist
- When are the Los Angeles Film Critics awards announced? I can't find it online.
TIA
- ^LAFC to be announced Friday.
- I think it's Sunday, R23.
Somebody please do an animated .gif of Anne getting mowed down by a truck in One Day.
Nobody likes you, Anne!
- For members of the academy, A. Hathaway Residential Services will be offering a special one-day thorough, personal cleaning of your home. Give your domestic staff the day off and relax in comfort as our owner, Anne Hathaway, dusts, waxes, washes, and folds throughout your residence, all while singing songs from the film adaptation of 'Les Miserable'. A ballot will be left for each voting memeber of the academy who resides at your address (strictly as a courtesy) when she is finished.
- Another blow for Anne. Where is this perceived frontrunning? She's not even part of the conversation.
- R26 Tell her to bring her knee pads.
- Les Jiz is only in the conversation in the minds of DL's Lynn Stairmaster and her brigade of theater queens.
- They must not have seen my acting and dancing portrayal of Anna Karenina yet.
Keira K.
- They have the audacity to name cooper best actor and not Keanu for his documentary?
It's a travesty I tell you! A travesty!
Our poor Keanu.
- Taylor Swift won the National Beard Review, didn't she?
- Disagree about Hathaway not being part of the conversation. According to the Voice she scored big at the New York Film Critics with Field (don't get me wrong, I'm very happy with Field's win) winning only on the third ballot. Helen Hunt also did very well as I recall from his report.
- It looks like the stars are aligning for Zero Dark Thirty. If it gets the LA Critics, then it will pretty much be over for Best Picture (and Director).
If Zero Dark Thirty wins the Best Picture Oscar, it will be the first Columbia release to win since The Last Emperor in 87.
