• The only thing "anyone" cares about is Annie -v- Sally? "Anyone"? No. Merely those gay men who revel in any imaginary bitterly rankling fight between actresses. What I care about is that the NBR, NYFCC and LAFC winners are substantially different so as to potentially permit an awards season which won't be a months long series of utterly boring rubber stamps. Of course, in the case of DDL's unforgettable performance (the finest in one of the greatest movie careers), that rubber stamp is so clearly deserved that I wouldn't mind.

• I haven't seen Compliance but from everything I have read about it, Dowd is the star of the movie. Can someone who's seen it explain to me how hers could be considered a supporting role?

On topic: Cooper better than DDL has got to be a joke. Leonardo DiCaprio CANNOT ACT. NBR is the body that always awards George Clooney for every film he's in, so that he'll come to their dinner. They've done the same this year: DiCaprio and Cooper, ass-tonguing two STAHS and perceived hotties. They're worse than the Golden Globes, really.

• Of the major awards, the NBR is always the least accurate predictor of the Oscars. Still, Bradley Cooper over DDL? That really is weird.

• I saw Compliance, and Ann Dowd really is the star. They would probably claim the younger woman is, but Ann probably has the same amount of screen time and is in the last scene, which really sets the tone for the whole movie. She's fucking amazing in it, though, so it's nice to see some recognition, but she's not supporting.

• Going for Bradley Cooper in Silver Linings Playbook is LAME. There are a lot of performances they could've honored, after DDL, without resorting to that. Joaquin Phoenix in The Master. John Hawkes in The Sessions. What were they thinking?

• Disagree about Hathaway not being part of the conversation. According to the Voice she scored big at the New York Film Critics with Field (don't get me wrong, I'm very happy with Field's win) winning only on the third ballot. Helen Hunt also did very well as I recall from his report.

• It looks like the stars are aligning for Zero Dark Thirty. If it gets the LA Critics, then it will pretty much be over for Best Picture (and Director). If Zero Dark Thirty wins the Best Picture Oscar, it will be the first Columbia release to win since The Last Emperor in 87.
