He's clearly a bit older than his youthful druggies stage. He loves strange culture and people. I will never forget his Bobby Garcia story, the old pornographer. Does he have a boyfriend? Did he ever? Anyone know the real scoop?

• I worked for an entertainment company and have met a few people who know him, worked with him. He keeps that part of his life very private. His taste runs to the straight, edgy, almost criminal types. Think of Cracker and Gator and Dexter Fishpaw.

• I met him in Provincetown during the film festival one year. I found him to be a very nice, pleasant sort of person. I would love to sit down with him over a drink and hear all his stories of when he lived in P'Town with Devine back in the day. I heard that whole scene was surreal.

• According to a friend of a friend who used to run with the Dreamlanders during their '70s heyday, John once tricked with an ex-con whose dick was so big that he ended up with an anal fissure.

• I saw a recent interview in which he addressed gay marriage and said he was for it in general but not for himself, as he would be paying alimony three times over. So: At least three serious relationships.

• Was he romantically connected with Divine?

• He tells some anecdotes about his childhood and his relationship with Divine in "This Filthy World". It's a good watch.

• Tedious narcissist, like all celebrities. Only interested in people who are more famous than he is. Unless it's a trashy nobody he wants to fuck.

• Have met him too and he was the opposite of a narcissist - humble and funny and witty.

• In some interviews he comes across as a nice eccentric guy but in others he comes off as a pretenious old hipster,It's hard to tell which is him and which is his schtick.

• R10, did he want to fuck you? I've met him, too, and my impression was as I said - he was constantly looking around to see if somebody famous walked in the room. Celebrities are in general interested only in other celebrities, then money, then drugs, then dogs, then sex, in that order.

• He's fascinated by the Manson girls and was good friends with Squeaky Frome for while. I think he's even testified for Leslie Van Houghton at a parole hearing. He has an electric chair in his entryway. Eccentric and fascinated by lurid crime.

• He's from my hometown. A friend of mine actually recently met him and took a photo with him. They filmed a scene in his movie "Pecker" at a gay male strip joint in Baltimore that I frequented quite often, but has since been turned into a Scores Gentlemen's Bar. The horror!

• I'm a nobody, and I've met him twice. Once was at The Cannes Film Festival (I ended up tagging along with some famous friends of friends!), and he was funny, chatty and friendly. He pretended to have remembered me when I met him again years after our Cannes encounter. Sweet.
