So, I'm actually an old romantic at heart...
Anyway, I just watched "Now, Voyager" and thoroughly enjoyed it. Where do you recommend I go next?
God, isn't Bette Davis marvellous?
Suggestions gratefully received.
TIA,
ayb- I just finished watching one of my faves from 1937 called "History is Made at Night". It's one part screwball comedy, one part romantic melodrama, and another part disaster movie. Jean Arthur portrays the wife of an overbearing, jealous shipping magnate (Colin Clive). She falls in love with a headwaiter portrayed by Charles Boyer and the story takes off from there. Boyer rescues Arthur from a compromising position (designed by Clive's character to set her up so she can't divorce him). He murders someone and attempts to frame Boyer. Totally OTT romance with a great shipwreck sequence thrown in for good measure. I'd be willing to bet my paycheck that James Cameron borrowed from the plotline to make "Titanic". It's on TCM On Demand for another week - watch it if you are able.
