I'm ready to boycott MSNBC over Luke Russert
Seriously. What the fuck? This guy does not know what he is talking about and he is not yet qualified to be an expert on the issues that he is foisted upon us to discuss.
- "boycott"???
You mean change the channel?
- He's gorgeous, and that's all that really matters nowadays.
- I agree with you OP. Entitled brat.
- What did he do now?
The moment he comes on the screen, I "boycott" in the way R1 mentions. I couldn't care less what he has to say. He has no insight worth noting.
And considering how he got his job, you'd think he'd attempt to be a bit humble, but no, he goes completely the other way.
I've never witnessed a more smug, insufferable, entitled pile of shit than this tool. The way he speaks, the smirk. He's such a douche.
He also appears to lack self-awareness as witnessed by his sexist/ageist question to Pelosi.
People keep talking about how they miss his father. I wasn't a big fan, but when you see what has come since, you inevitably miss him. Jr. and Gregory are THAT bad.
- It is his mother's fault, he is just like her
- Jesus, R2. Gorgeous? Are you his mother?
I guess all it takes is being a 20-something, white frat asshole for you to get turned on.
Ew.

[quote]And considering how he got his job, you'd think he'd attempt to be a bit humble, but no, he goes completely the other way.
I highly suggest you catch the talent-free Jenna Bush Hager on the Today Show sometime R4.
- R2. Luke Russert is gorgeous?
Let me remind you of a little well-known fact: Luke Russert is NOT gorgeous by any stretch of the imagination.
- Goodness, r6. He's not even DC gorgeous.
- We need to boycott now!
- [quote]He also appears to lack self-awareness as witnessed by his sexist/ageist question to Pelosi.
Yes, he was really an asshole with her and he comes off like another right wing shill. And lord knows he's not the slightest bit attractive.
- He's hot!
http://nyovelvetroper.files.wordpress.com/2012/05/2.jpg%3Fw%3D900
- He's also a singer!
http://www.mediabistro.com/fishbowldc/files/2011/09/Luke-Russert.jpg
- I'd do him in a heartbeat. I bet he has a nice tool. He has BDF and the confidence and swagger to reinforce that. He could fuck me for days.
- Sexy!
http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/files/original/lukeruss2_2-10.jpg
- Such a punchable face.
- Looking good on the red carpet.
http://www4.pictures.gi.zimbio.com/Luke+Russert+Character+Project+Opening+American+yL6RCOBbzFWl.jpg
- Some of you have NO TASTE in men at all. Especially the idiots that think he is "gorgeous" or "hot". Something is obviously wrong with you all...
anon
- OP, R8, and R16 sum up this toad quite nicely.
- Sexy lips!
http://www.theblaze.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/Screen-Shot-2012-07-02-at-10.15.45-AM-620x317.png
- He has a 47 year old's body at 27.
- So doughy, he's even listed as a food to avoid on all of the Celiac disease sites.
- R17. Looking good on the red carpet? Not at all.
He was rather pudgy, although he seems to have slimmed down a bit recently. The brown shoes with the navy or black suit he's wearing are--even for the least knowledgeable about fashion--a major screw-up.
Regardling Luke professionally, he got his job via nepostism--period. He had minimal broadcast journalist experience, but no way in hell should someone of his age and lack of expereince be an NBC Washington correspondent right off the bat.
Pay your dues. The same goes for Jenna Bush on the Today show--one of the reasons Today sucks. I can't stand these douchebags who woke up on third base and thought they hit a triple.

- [R7] [R17]
I have become rather fond of Jenna Bush Hager.
She was not a slick TV personality, rather an ordinary seeming unpretentious young woman.
I believe she is genuine and for me it is refreshing to see her somewhat clumsy pieces.
She reminds me of Jane Pauley who also was a bit awkward but charmed us anyway.
- Luke Russert is 27
Anderson Cooper joined ABC News at age 28
AC started reporting for Channel 1 at age 26
- Jenna Bush Hager is not a news person. She does human interest pieces for Today which is only part of a news program.
- MSNBC . . . what a joke.
They showcase two known and admitted plagiarists, Mike Barnicle and Doris Kearns Goodwin, while they ban Pat Buchanan from their network simply because he wrote something they disagreed with.
- So it is okay for Anderson Cooper to use his connections, his name and nepostism to score a job at Channel 1, and then later at ABC.
But it is not okay for Luke Russert to follow the same path as AC.
Is that correct R23
One is okay, but the other is not?
- I've watched his show and he is better informed then say...Hannity.
- R25. Luke wasn't just hired at age 27. He's been on the NBC payroll as a Washington correspondent for the past three-and-ahalf years...since he was 24.
I still say: Pay your dues. There are thousands of broadcast journalists all over the country with years and years of experience who would never have been given the same opportunity as Luke Russert. He's not awful, but he got his job via nepotism.
R23
- When Anderson Cooper was 24 he was sleeping with the boss at Channel 1 1 to get assignments.
And that is better?
- Oh great, the crazy anti-AC troll is on HERE too? What a lunatic. Can't you get over your goddamn obsession with him? NO ONE was talking about AC in the first place, you maniac. We're talking about Russert.
- [quote] NO ONE was talking about AC in the first place, you maniac. We're talking about Russert.
Correction, we were talking about
[quote] got his job via nepostism--period
Russert is just following AC career path.
Yet one person gets a free pass (AC), and another person gets grilled over the coals.
Another double standard.
- No R33, this is about YOU and YOUR insane need to bring up AC whenever you think you have an opportunity or an opening you don't give a DAMN about Luke Russert, your problem is ALWAYS Anderson and you're always hoping others here will pile on and join you to criticize AC because that's what you get off on. Don't you know some of us have seen this pattern and know EXACTLY what you're doing by now? You do this all of the time and don't even bother trying to lie and say you don't. Nice try, but we gotcha.
- I've said this before on other threads about this nepotistic douche, but there is no way in hell that a 23 year-old (esp. one as homely as Russert) would have been put on air at the network level AT ALL, never mind as a correspondent, no matter how brilliant they were. And Russert is far from brilliant.
A 23 year-old who works at one of the big three networks, assuming they can even get hired, works as the producer assistant's assistant.
Russert is a tool and an asshole.
- He got the job because his father dropped dead, and that sexiest question he asked Nancy Pelosi should have ended him right then and there.
- R33 (AKA the Anderson Cooper-obsessed troll) needs to find herself a hobby that doesn't involve polluting DL with her weird anti-AC crusade. This thread is about Luke Russert, so why is she bringing up AC here?
- Hand clap to R34 for shutting down R33 for good!
- Luke Russert's commentary is an even better emetic than me!
Ipecac
- You didn't shut me up.
Luke Russert just took a page out of AC's book on how to use your name and connections to climb up the network ladder.
But what you guys are saying is that it is totally OKAY for AC to use his name and connections to further his career and climb up the food chain.
But it is NOT okay for Luke Russert to follow what AC did.
OK gotcha, okay for AC, but for no one else.
That totally clears things up for me.
- At least Cooper was attractive at Russert's age.
- I'll give you that R41
R40
- Maybe he is appealing to some of us, but as a journalist he sucks. If NBC is trying to honor his dad by helping him with his career, then they're going about it wrong.
They need to send him to a down market to earn the right to report on the glamourous stuff. No way should someone as green and stupid as he is be allowed to cover news conferences by members of Congress and ask foolish insulting questions that embarrass the network.
Even if he just served an apprenticeship in the boondicks for two or three years, it would give him the respect & experience he needs and doesn't have. His mother is an ass who is hurting him more than she's helping him, too.
- I don't think Luke wipes very well at times,,,
- Yes, OP. I am sure that CNN and Fox will welcome you to their viewership.
- [quote] His mother is an ass who is hurting him more than she's helping him, too.
Who is his mother? I mean I know she's in the business, but what is she specifically doing for his career?
- [quote]But what you guys are saying is that it is totally OKAY for AC to use his name and connections to further his career and climb up the food chain.
No one's saying that. AC and Luke Russert are BOTH douchebags. Now, let's return to the discussion at hand.
- Glad someone agrees with me
R40
- [quote]But what you guys are saying is that it is totally OKAY for AC to use his name and connections to further his career and climb up the food chain.
I had no idea the Coopers were a well-known tv brand name which could be milked for fame and fortune.
- Luke's mother is yenta journalist Maureen Orth.
- More qualified than you, OP.
- He's short and dumpy.
- Good point, r49. I had no idea that Gloria Vanderbilt had any connection to the world of broadcast journalism.
- Maureen Orth writes middling profiles for Vanity Fair. Curious about her involvement with Luke's career. Anyone know more?
- His fat fuck dad was so revered by his colleagues that they feel obligated to look after Luke and Maureen. Both are talentless wastes of space who could never make it on their own.
- Oh please, R51.
Winning the gene pool lottery is luck, not a qualification.
- Turd Blossom II
- Maureen Orth cashed in on the Gianni Versace murder with her book "Vulgar Favors", which, as the title implies, is leeringly homophobic.
- Anderson Cooper worked for the CIA before going into his tv worked. At least he knew something about world affairs.
- TV News is full of CIA plants. Dan Rather was one too, just like Anderson.
- I guess I couldn't blame people for taking advantage of family connections for advancement, especially if they are talented. I don't think people would have begrudged Ezra Klein a little assistance from connected parents. Thing about Klein is that he's really smart and talented and at his young age has a large body of work that speaks to his dedication and inclination to work. He was going at it when he was an undergrad, got internships, etc. I wouldn't be upset to learn that he used a connection and got a break. He's also smart enough to know that getting breaks would have done him no good if he didn't have any talent. In other words, he has self-awareness and wouldn't be the prick that Russert has become.
The thing is that Russert was not even shooting for the top spot in broadcast journalism. What was he shooting for? A Salon feature about him made it clear that he's a Boston College alumnus because he didn't have the grades or scores to get into the upper-echelon schools his father's colleagues' kids were getting into. How much ability and direction did he have? Not much, it seems, and he got rewarded right off the bat. He just kind of fell into his position thanks to his father's untimely death and he's apparently done nothing to acquit himself. I haven't watched him at all, but by all descriptions it sounds like he's entitled and not very good at what he does. If this is the case, why is he still there?
Even Cooper started at a lower level than he did in local news. I have no idea what the quality of his work was like. It can't suck nearly as much as Russert's seems to per reports here. And while I was kind of joking about Russert having the physique of a 47 y.o. and Cooper being better looking, appearance is one of the reasons people are hired to be broadcast journalists, even if they're not good enough to write copy, etc. At least Cooper had that.
- R40, you're a crazed AC-obssessed troll. That totally clears things up for me.
- R40 needs to find a better outlet than DL to work out her issues revolving around Anderson Cooper. I suggest talking to a psychiatrist.
- Check out the princeling in meltdown mode....
He should've been fired by NBC after this appearance:
