This is long but true. I feel horrible. I work for a large government agency, with a woman who is basically a miserable human being who causes trouble for everyone else. She's the type of worker that gives government employees a bad name; she's a few years from retirement, takes naps during the workday, smokes weed in the bathroom at work (I have no idea how she still has a job...), pushes work assignments on other people, and the work that she does manage to do she purposely does incorrectly so that other people have to fix it. Anyway, our workplace allows people four hours of paid leave to go donate blood. You don't have to use your own accrued vacation/sick time, it's separate, you just have to submit a signed form to your manager the next day. Well, she donates blood once every few months, and recently told a few people that she doesn't actually donate blood--she just goes home. Apparently she has blank forms from when she actually donated blood a few years back, and just submits a forged document each time. WELL. I kept that to myself, but knew she could get in a lot of trouble for it. One day I just had it, and anonymously reported the situation to the investigations department where we work. We're supposed to report any wrong doing that we see, especially when it involves government waste. I found out yesterday that they are in fact investigating her, and from what I've heard, she very likely is going to lose her job. I feel TERRIBLE. While I did do the "correct" thing-this woman now about to be out of a job because of me. She's going through a divorce and there's been a lot of financial issues surrounding that as it is, and I have all these scenarios running through my head. She has next to no skills, she's in her late 50's, she will have gotten fired from a government job; it will be impossible for her to find something easily. What if she kills herself? I feel absolutely awful. Even though she did the wrong thing in the first place, am I a cunt for reporting it, or did I genuinely do the right thing? I feel terrible.
