Celebrities Who Never Would Have Made It In Show Business If It Weren't For Nepotism
Gwyneth Paltrow comes to mind....
Rumer Willis ..... and she didn't make it very far to begin with.
Sofia Coppola
Jaden and Willow Smith
At least Sofia Coppola grew to be a good director. I can't see either of the Smiths being worth a damn as performers.
HELLO!
Tori%20Spelling
"That's Barbara Bosson... B-O-S-S-O-N, with an 'N,' as is 'nepotism.'" -- Steven Bochco, referring to his wife/invariable star to a bunch of reporters
Gwyneth
Tori Spelling
Charlie Sheen
Jaden and Willow Smith
Nic Cage
Jason Schwartzman
The jews
Lucie Arnaz and Lorna Luft. Both are perfectly okay performers, but neither would have gotten a chance had it not been for their respective Mamas. They offer nothing that thousands of other girls hitting show business when they did also had--a pleasant voice and adequate (well, in Lorna's case....maybe not) acting chops.
In some cases, the children actually outstripped whatever fame their parents had or won major awards, and I think it's safe to say people like Jane Fonda and Drew Barrymore (and even Gwyneth Paltrow, who is an asshole but who genuinely has beauty and some talent) deserve their fame, despite the fact that many doors were opened for them because of their last names.
The ones who seem despicable to me are the children and nephews of Francis Ford Coppola. An untalented and dislikable crowd.
Hello, Tori @ R4!
Tatum
She hasn't happened yet but, Cody Horn.
Uh me and all my siblings.
Kim%20K.
Not that they have made it yet, but Meryl Streep's daughters.
(And I am not the consistently dull M troll either)
Melissa Rivers (behind the scenes is where she works as a producer, also as a host and reality star...)
Kelly and Jack Osborne
Lily Rabe got her foot in the door by virtue of her being (the late) Jill Clayburgh's daughter. But, she has shown herself to be a very fine actress on her own accord for a while now.
Jane "Wooden" Fonda
May she never "happen," R12.
Emma Roberts
Drew Barrymore
Kate Hudson
Oliver Hudson
Maggie Gyllenhaal
Tater Tot O'Neal
Jack Ritz Cracker
Kim Kardashain
Paris Hilton
Nicole Richie
Lana Del Rey, whose real name is not that
Griffin Dunne
Mariska Hargitay
Lorna Face Luft
Mamie Gumball
Lena Dunham
Jen Aniston
Angelina Jolly
Lisa Marie Presley
Jake and Maggie Gyllenhall, who are plain and modestly talented, to put it politely.
Ditto Kristen Stewart and Blake Lively.
Kiera Knightly is photogenic at least, but can't act. Being from a showbiz family got her in the door.
Chris Pine and Rashida Jones are not without appeal, but would they have gotten anywhere without family connections?
Rashinda Jones, no. She is homely as homely can be and a boring actress to boot.
Chris Pine, yes. There is always a place for a conventional, yet extraordinarily beautiful young man in film.
Didn't JD Salinger's son Matt become an actor?
He sort of came and went in the late 70s...
I am surprised no one has mentioned Anderson Cooper yet. If it wasn't for his mother being Gloria Vanderbilt he wouldn't be where he is today. I doubt anyone would even know who he is.
I haven't the slightest idea...
Janet%20Jackson
What about Judd Apatow's wife Leslie Mann? the only movies I see her in are his movies where she plays the "hot" MILF.
Michael Douglas
[quote]Didn't JD Salinger's son Matt become an actor?
Yes. He had a prominent role in "Revenge of the Nerds".
I love Rashida Jones. She may have been helped by her family connections but she's adorable and a very good actress.
Not true, R26. Janet has talent. She didn't need to be associated with The Jackson's to make it.
Latoya
Robert Downey Jr.
Liza.

Tom Hanks' son...what's his name again?
"What about Judd Apatow's wife Leslie Mann? the only movies I see her in are his movies where she plays the "hot" MILF. "
She's not really an example of nepotism, more of someone sleeping their way to the middle. She had a middling career as an ingenue before she married Apatow, and he's kept her working long after her ingenue days ended.
Gay etch and Kate Hudson might have been in tv but I don't see either of them working hard enough to be big stars. Gweneth would have married rich at least.
Gwyneth's parents got her to the middle, fucking Brad Pitt got her to the top.
Do we included spouses? If so, Marsha Mason (now reduced to playing Patricia Heaton's mother on "The Middle.")
Nicholas Cage
Gwynnie
Tom Hank's son
Kate Hudson
I disagree with some of these. Rashida Jones is a genuinely good comic actress and a beautiful woman. Jake and Maggie Gyllenhaal also have genuine talent, and Jake is very attractive in an offbeat sort of way.
[quote]Jake is very attractive in an offbeat sort of way.
He looks like a monkey.
I agree, r40.
Jason and Justine Bateman
Zoe Kazan
(Not show business but) I can't come up with anything attractive yet I'm still a celebrity.
Stella McCartney
Not that they've "made it", but they're only known to us due to who their parents were.
Patti Davis
Ron Reagan
Michael Reagan
Bristol Palin
Meghan McCain
Steven Ford
Margaret Truman
Caroline Kennedy
JFK, Jr.
The Bush sons
The Romney sons
The entire royal family (including the queen)
Mitt is also a "Romney son."
Kiefer Sutherland
Anomynous%20
I actually think Kiefer is great in villain/creep roles R49. Loved his character in Freeway.
Alexa Ray, still trying.
You know, daughter of Billy Joel and Christie Brinkley
All the Baldwins who aren't Alec.
Casey Affleck, Liv Tyler, the Mapother cousin, Danny Huston, Anjelica Huston.
Alexa Ray Joel should go to Ivanka Trump's plastic surgeon.
ITA w/R26. Janet, without her Jackson name, would have had to have gone the Foxy Brown/Ashanti/Ciara route, and fucked and sucked her way to the top. God knows she didn't get where she is because of her great voice.
I'm LOLing at the Janet hating troll at R53, who just left the Christina Aguilera thread ragging on Janet's voice as well. Ha!
Ronnie Burns
Y&R's Laura Lee Bell.
Luke Russert
Jim Belushi
Goop is insufferable, but talented.
Tori Spelling owns this thread.
