OFFICIAL THANSGIVING DAY PARADE THREAD!!
No longer winding thru Times Square??! Hate it already.
NBC and CBS coverage.
- That number from "Newsies" just goes on and on and on.. Kara Lindsay (Katherine) is cute though.
- Poor Ann Curry
She was suppose to co-host this year. Was fired from that gig as well 1) Matt didn't want her 2) The network wants to showcase Savannah.
- Does Ann actually DO anything for NBC now? I've only seen her a couple of times.
- This is not a parade!
They could have done this in a studio.
It's broadway show production numbers in front of Macy's.
When does the parade start?

- I remember when the lighting of the Rockefeller Christmas tree was a local half hour show on Channel 4 in NY from 7 pm to 7:30 pm, featuring a couple of carols by the Harlem Boys choir. And when the Thanksgiving Day parade was a few balloons and Santa Claus arriving on his sleigh.
And I remember when only a few people would go to Central Park the night before Thanksgiving to watch the balloons get inflated. That seemed to go from a small fun event one year to wall-to-wall people the very next year.
- I can't believe I'm saying this but I miss those days when everything was a little simpler and smaller and more golden. The holidays are so complicated now. It's all too much, too loud and too crazy.

- I am so hated! People say it's because I'm brittle and clipped! Isn't it wonderful?
Savannah Guthrie
- [5]: I remember when the lighting of the tree was only 15 minutes on NBC from 6 to 6:15, and that must have been in the late 1950s. They used to have one fabulous ice skater, usually a champion.
Friend remembers celebrating New Year's Eve in the 1970s in the Channel Gardens and there was no one there except him and some friends.

- I am only watching because they got rid of Ann Curry
- It's show numbers until the parade gets to Herald Square. Just saw the Sesame Street float number - is there a different hand up Elmo's muppet bottom since the other guy resigned?
- Savannah/R7, I can think of a few other reasons.

- The Rockettes sucked. They were so much better in the 80s.

- Boycott the fuckers, until they dump Trump!
- "Matthew" from Downton Abbey!
- Savannah has buck teeths.. she looks like Sarah Brightman playing a chipmunk in a grade school pageant.
- Why are the assholes from "The Insider" hosting the CBS broadcast? Cannot stand these two.
- Have you people never watched this before? For years, the first hour is nothing but numbers from Broadway musicals. The actual parade is never shown until the beginning of hour two.
When I was a kid, I used to be able to watch the first half of the Gimbel's parade on the local Philly station while this nonsense went on and then switch to the Macy's parade.
- Matt Lauer introduced the Gershwin song S'Wonderful, as "S" Wonderful.
- Purina Dog Show follows! Doggies! John O'Hurley! Woo-hoo!
Yes, I have no life
- I LOVE Newsies!!
- Can't stand Matt Lauer.
- I can't either R22.
- At least the CBS broadcast doesn't have that awful canned music.
- I though Cinderella and Bring It On came off very well. The rest, not so much.
- The Broadway numbers used to be incorporated into the parade, not segregated to the beginning. I remember seeing George Hearn doing "A Modern Major General" from PIRATES OF PENZANCE one year. And the Rockettes number always came LAST, right before Santa!
And I miss Bullwinkle and Underdog.
Everything was better back then--
- [quote]At least the CBS broadcast doesn't have that awful canned music.
Yeah, CBS's coverage is miles better than NBC's. CBS is actually interested in covering the parade and less so with the cheesy musical numbers that are every 2 to 3 minutes on NBC (something that goes on throughout the 3-hour broadcast, not just the Broadway numbers at the beginning).
- Snoopy! Lucy! Pikachu! Santa Claus coming!
Oldster, feeling 10-years-old today
- Santa just showed up on CBS.
The holiday season has officially begun, bitches.
- Santa Claus! Macy! New York, New York; so nice they named it twice! The center of the Universe! Happy Thanksgiving to beloved DL "friends"; good wishes and not a little envy sent to beloved NYC DL'ers; have a great day, solo, duo, or doing family duty - let the lovely and challenging Holiday season begin!
And watch the Dog Show!!!
- Ah, they dumped that sugary sweet "I Believe" song at the end in favor of another sugary sweet song. Maybe because Book Of Mormon has a song in it called "I Believe" which sounds suspiciously similar?
- Thanks r30, love the "lovely & challenging." Now my Dad gets to watch his beloved Lions lose for the 9th consecutive time on Thanksgiving. I'd just as soon be snowboarding, but we have no snow here in Colorado. Kinda wish I was out in Utah for the weekend (drowning in snow).
I could do a double Thanksgiving today (noon, 6), but I don't think I have the energy. I feel so sorry for all the folks in retail who are already dreading their shifts beginning in a few hours.
