Chefs who smoke...

We know that Rachel Ray is a heavy smoker and that our beloved Anne Burrel smokes (thus her over use of salt)...who else in the culinary world is a pathetic addict?

• Paula chain smokes and get this- on her tv program when they cut to a close up of her hands they use an arm double- some hag who puts on the same costume and jewelry but does NOT have the bright yellow nicotine stained fingers that Paula does....she has vowed to quit so many times but never has succeeded, probably because she is surrounded by smokers, including her husband..........also Guy Feiri (spelling?) smokes tons of weed and American Spirits by the truckload...

• A heavy smoker is one who everytime they take a break or make a cut has to run off to the side of the stage by an exit door to puff away. She can't smoke 'in the studio' for her audience show but she barely steps out while the door is held to puff away. I worked on her show for a year and only ONCE did she stay during the break and speak to her guest.

• I categorize cigarette smokers the same as a heroin or any other addict. I pity then and thus consider them pathetic addicts. I feel sorry for pathetic addicts no matter what drug they are stuck on.

• The OCD Troll strikes again. Yesterday it started a tipping thread disguised as a lesbian thread; today it's using chefs to start a smoking thread. I'm sure the lesbian vegan/allergic child/autism/fibromyalgia threads are locked and loaded.

• Actually, you're right, R9. In fact, nicotine is more addictive than heroin. If it came up for approval now, that would never happen. Tobacco fields would be burned like marijuana fields.

• OP is right, but we should applaud those who are working on quittig. THere was a thread made the other day. Smoking is such an outdated thing. Hopefully all offenders will come to their senses soon and quit.

• I was in the audience of a talk show that had Jamie Oliver as a guest. When he walked by you could smell the stale cig smoke smell wafting off him.

• I never really thought about it before but that does gross me out knowing the person who prepared my food had nasty cigarette hands. I'm proud to say that I have never touched one in my life.

• Nearly all of the contestants that appear on Hell's Kitchen, Gordon Ramsey's reality show smoke like chimneys. I would hardly call any of those people professional chefs (at best line cooks on a good day) but smoking does seem endemic to the profession. I would think that would ruin your sense of taste which makes me question the quality of most restaurants. Hell's Kitchen and the gross incompetence of their contestants has also made me question the sanity of paying easily double for the same dish that you could make at home but also having the confidence of knowing who and what has touched the food you are eating. As an aside, did anyone think that Raj from Hell's Kitchen's seasons past was a total plant, meaning a Hollywood day player. No so called 'chef' could be that incompetent and retain a job in any restaurant.
