Afterschool Specials
What are some of the awesome Afterschool Specials from the 70's and 80's that you remember? Mine are "What if I'm Gay?" and the one with Maureen McCormick as a slutty high school student. Those were classics.
- What If I'm Gay was the best, OP. I was the right age that it made a strong impact, and I crushed on Richard Joseph Paul.

- "Stoned!" starring Scott Baio. While high, he laughs while his brother drowns. Even as a seven year old, I knew it was total bullshit.

- "Pssst! Hammerman's After You" was one of my favorites.
- I liked "My Mother Was Never a Kid" where a teenage girl who thinks her mother doesn't understand teenagers magically goes back in time and meets her mother as a teenager. It was Back to the Future before Back to the Future.

- Thanks for the link R1. I hadn't seem that in at least 20 years. It was great to see a show like that as a gay kid.
- Damn I don't remember these episodes (I'm sure I would remember "Stoned" if i had seen it). I wish these would come out on DVD.
I also liked the drunk driving one with Val Kilmer and Michelle Pfeiffer.
OP
- I can't believe I almost forget about "Please God, I'm Only 17" about a teenager (Michael Landes) who drives recklessly and dies in an accident. I still have that one on VHS.
OP
- I remember one from the early 70's about a girl who devils a bag lady, only to regret it later. After the bag lady is carted off to some hospital, the girl goes through her things and discovers that the bag lady lead a rich life that included being a child star on the stage. It really upset me.
- Who could forget the one with a young Helen Hunt on Angel Dust!

- The novel "Dinky Hocker Shoots Smack!" was done as an AS starring the late, great Wendie Jo Sperber in the title role as a troubled teen who overeats to hide the pain of being ignored by her social crusading mother.
- Here's some good ones

- The one with Ben Affleck on steroids was great.
- I recall a very sweet one where Rosanna Arquette's parents were deaf. She was an ingenue with a bright future at one time.

What?
- You can do it Duffy Moon!
- OMG, Diana Scarwid is cracking me up in R9's clip. "CindyKathyJaneMary... every single onnnvYEW knows beddernniss!"
IMDB says the movie is called "Desperate Lives." The cast also includes Doug McKeon, Tricia Cast, Diane Ladd, Katherine Kelly Lang, & Dr. Joyce Brothers! I have got to see this shit.

- Did Scott Baio used to be called Scott "By-o"? That's how the announcer in R11's link introduced him @#3: "Stoned."
- The one with Marcia Brady as a slutty high school student was called, "When, Jenny? When?"
A memorable moment from it, complaining to her guidance counselor:

- R18 - "it's ugly inside me" - "oh my nose".
- R18 that was outstanding, thank you. The only scene I remember is when she's in a van after having sex with some random guy. Her friend asks her why she lets guys use her like that and she responds, "They're not using me. They're my friends. They really like me!"
- R9. I didn't see that one but I must see it now. That last scene looked like it was from Reefer Madness. And Diana Scarwid is kind of hot.

You mean she highly seasons her with paprika?

- My favorite part of the clip at r18 is when Jenny tells her guidance counselor, "Easy for you to talk... you've got it so together!" Does Jenny know what guidance counselors are paid?
- [quote]You mean she highly seasons her with paprika?
And squeezes her from a pastry tube onto half a hard-boiled egg.
- R17. That was weird. Maybe the announcer was "Stoned"
- The one I remember was with Linda Blair in Sarah T. Portait of a Teenage Alcoholic...
- I remember one about an anorexic teen who put her vomit in jars and hid them in her closet.
- The Helen Hunt one scared me from doing "hard drugs".
Not an afternoon special but along the same lines - how about: Sooner or Later w/Rex Smith...
