So Boehner Now Says He's Going After Obamacare?
Someone has Mitt Romney syndrome. We have the tape of you saying the opposite, dear.
- .
- Boehner has a boner that won't go down over The Affordable Health Care Act.
See a doctor, John. You will lose this fight.
- Someone needs to smack this guy upside the head and tell him we had an election and the people have spoken and he needs to just stop this fucking bullshit.
- It's the law of the land, isn't going anywhere. Even has John Roberts seal.
- Boehner has 2 years left in his political career. He'll try to create as much damage as possible before he's kicked out of Congress.
- You know, the Republicans are just pure evil. There's just no way around it.
- He's probably been threatened. They haven't voted on leadership yet.
- Boehner knows the healthcare act isn't going anywhere, but his base refuses to hear that so he has to still make this noise. You think the pubs would try to grow up a little but no.
- We will not be repealing The Affordable Health Care Act.
We had the chance to do so. And we said no.
Rachel Maddow
- Wish someone would have actually ran against him and knocked him out this year.
- He isn't a terrible guy as far as Republicans go, Eric Cantor would have succeeded him and he is far worse. Boehner's hands are always tied by the extremism of his caucus and Cantor who wants his job.
- I thought Obama was just re-elected on a platform that included Obamacare? Is Boehner that contemptuous of the public that he is willing to go against the wishes of the people who voted Obama back into office?
- The attempt to repeaal the health care act will pass in the House. It will not pass in the Senate. It's an exercise in futilty.
However, if it were ever to pass both houses of Congress, Obama would veto it. End of story since there isn't a two-thirds majority to override Obama's veto. Another act of futility.
The Affordable Helth Care Act is here to stay.
- [quote]I thought Obama was just re-elected on a platform that included Obamacare
He was elected by an anti-Romney vote.
And the GOP knows it.
- They are so in disarray that it feel like they don't know what to do. They want/need to attack something and they are trying a bunch of topics to find one that sticks.
- You got that twisted, R14.
- Boehner's plan isn't to repeal the act, which he surely must know will never happen. His plan is to slowly chip away at it in the House as to "neuter" it further.
I like to believe that all of this is just political bluster meant to keep the Tea Party rabble happy that their fearless leader is indeed fearless. But hopefully behind closed doors he will back down significantly and fuck off.
He has nothing to gain by going through with this obstructivism because it will only hurt him. He might even get primaried next election, which he doesn't want.
- R17 is correct. It is the approach that many state legislatures have taken to Roe v. Wade. They know that the law isn't going to be overturned, but they will chip away at it until it is useless.
- R18 is correct. And the GOP has been very successful, along with their domestic terrorist allies who threaten abortion providers. Most hospitals no longer provide abortions; in some states, it's impossible to get the procedure.
- When are we going to get Boner neutered?
I'm really sick of hearing that orange windbag bloviate about what he's going to do.
You ain't gonna do jack shit because you and your homies were bitchslapped by the peeps. Now STFU and sit the fuck down, idiot.
- Ezra Klein on MSNBC said last night that what Boehner and the GOP are attempting to do is a waste of time and meaningless. He said they're just grandstanding because there's nothing they can really do to dismantle the law or change it in any significant way and he says Boehner knows this but he just doesn't want to look weakened by the by the Obama win.
- Boehner and McConnell look really pathetic and weak during their respective tenures. Instead of actually LEADING their party and actually GOVERNING the country with innovative, original plans for fixing what's wrong, they have completely based the past four years of their careers on simply reacting to whatever Obama has going on. They keep playing defense.
- These asshole Repugs are supposedly so concerned about JOBS, but since the election, all they've done is rant about Benghazi, Libya.
- R14...CORRECTION...anti-REPUBLICAN vote. Nice try freeper.
- Boehner is walking through a political landmine field right now. If he goes too far to the right he could damage himself to the mainstream electorate. If he goes to far to the left he could damage himself to the hard-right base.
Unfortunately for him, the base of his party has become so dogmatic that ANY compromise with Obama whatsoever is seen as an grievous act of betrayal. Just take a gander at FreeRepublic where Boehner and McConnell are constantly called "RINOs" even though both of them have been the most obstructivist assholes on the planet.
- [quote]they have completely based the past four years of their careers on simply reacting to whatever Obama has going on. They keep playing defense.
It's even worse than that. They're not just reacting to whatever Obama proposes, they're reflexively opposing it. If Obama is for it, or if it's seen as somehow improving Obama's standing, they're against it, even if the proposal makes sense and even if they were formerly in favor of it.
