I don't want to encourage someone's insensivity to the plight of others BUT I have to say that when I was going through a bit of a rough spot money-wise that is when I really watched ny eating and made sure I ate small portions of good and healthy food. I decided to turn it into a diet and lost 30 lbs in 4 months. I certainly had no money for junk food or sodas and the like.
She might have gotten the idea from the DL thread.
It all depends on the person. When I was poor, I tried eating smaller portions of the healthy foods I usually bought, but I just ended up hungry all the time. I eventually discovered that nothing would fill me up faster or keep me full longer than a burger and fries from McDonald's. Sometimes I'd only eat once a day, so it came out fairly cheap. It's pretty easy to save money there if you stick to the dollar menu.
