[quote]Lauer is NOT being canned, despite constant speculation in the Enquirer and similar outlets to the contrary.
Damn.
Ann%20Curry
- Ummmm, most of the article spoke to how much bull shit the "rumors" are...
- No one on the production staff likes him. NO. ONE.
How much do they hate Matt? If Matt's guts were on fire, not one person would piss up his butt.

- Not since Cooper and Lauer showed up on a list of "most overpaid celebrities" no.
- Unfortunately it's not happening. I would love it to happen though. He's evil and ugly.
- He's the reason the ratings are in the toilet. It's incredible how a white guy can never get fired.
- Willie Geist Willie Geist on deck.......
- I excitedly open this thread hoping for good news and impending failure of Matt...

- R8 = Ann Curry.
- "It's incredible how a white guy can never get fired."
I beg to differ!

- The responsibility for the demise of the Today Show lies solely with the person who did not choose to fire Ann Curry back when the time was right. The fact that Ann Curry substituted for the hosts whenever either was absent caused a lot of long-time viewers to leave. When Katie Couric left, it was a chance to rebuild the lineup and get rid of the dimwit. Instead, they kept her on.
When Meredith Viera was fired, it was another chance to get rid of the dead weight. When Ann Curry was made host, it all but proved the long-standing hypothesis that Ann Curry had some kind of blackmail material on someone high-up at NBC. Another hypothesis is that, when she became host, her on-air time decreased dramatically, meaning that the show was not as unwatchable as she had made it the last ten years or so.
Apparently, people who want to be informed or entertained have long abandoned the show. The 2012 Today Show viewer who dropped the show because of Ann Curry's well-earned firing now has nothing to watch but QVC.
- R12 or Matt nobody is buying it. You are a bore, and need to be put out to pasture.
- Thanks to the gossip everybody knows how Matt likes to hook up with some of the pretty female anchors and even has a baby with one of them while being married. That can't be good for a family friendly Show host's image.
- R12, link please to Viera being fired. I thought she quit.
- When did the Today Show become the poor white girl tragedy show?
- The reason the ratings are so low is that they have an ENTIRE HOUR of Hoda and Kathy Lee. They're nauseating.

Which is a time honored way to put the info out there. As Liz Smith said - Gossip is just news running down the street ahead of itself in a red satin dress.
- "The reason the ratings are so low is that they have an ENTIRE HOUR of Hoda and Kathy Lee. They're nauseating."
Speak for yourself, bitch.

- No, the ratings are low because the show is now mostly garbage. All four hours of it. The serious content is practically nil. They spend an extraordinary amount of time trying to make nonsense seem important. Or relevant. There is a smidgen of serious new and then they are off to talk to some person who experienced a personal tragedy that is not worthy of national attention. Or the Duggers and their 25 spawn and grandspawn.
- "news" ^^^
- Wait - this show is FOUR HOURS LONG?
What the fuck?
- [quote]He's the reason the ratings are in the toilet.
No, the ratings are in the toilet because they haven't found him a competent female counterpart, someone who can do "hard" and "soft" just as well as Katie Couric. Ann was fine with hard news but clearly uncomfortable with all the lifestyle segments. Savannah is an obvious ditz who DEFINITELY can't do hard and can barely make it through the soft stuff; her lack of kitchen skills is outright *embarrassing*! There is, however, ZERO chance he'll be fired with the ratings in a slide, plus there's the fact that he just resigned for five years right after Ann was fired to "reassure" people he wasn't going anywhere.
R22, yes, it's four hours long, but the main show is still only two. The second hour briefly blends into the third, which has a rotating field of "experts" (e.g. the noxious Star Jones) who discuss shit they mostly know nothing about. Hour four is Kathie Lee getting drunk as Hoda looks on in continuous horror, like she's stuck in a remake of "Groundhog Day" with Ramona from RHONY as her sidekick.
