How did Barbra and Mandy Patinkin get along on Yentl?
I believe Barbra does a director's commentary on the 'Yentl' DVD, I only listened to her during Mandy's nude scene, she had little to say about it except that he had no body shyness whatsoever.
There was pretty much only good behind the scenes press around Yentl at the time, as I recall, including a love fest among Babs, Mandy, and Amy Irving. Sure Babs was a sweetheart on this--she got to call the shots. Actually, it's a pretty good movie, even if Mandy and Amy didn't get to sing as they should have.
The nude scene in that movie was like the only moment in his life that Mandy ever looked hot.
It was Mandy's first leading role in a film (he'd done some small parts in earlier films like RAGTIME), so he was on his best behavior. He listened to his director/producer/co-star and did as she told him to do.
By the time he moved on to his next leading role in a film, he had started to develop the ego problems he is now known for, and he argued with his co-star and director once too often and was fired. That film was HEARTBURN, directed by Mike Nichols and co-starring Meryl Streep, and he was replaced by Jack Nicholson.
I can't find it on youtube..butthere was a Tom Snyder episode where he bad mouthed Streisand with the typical stuff...too controlling, too obsessed with details...he said she came up with a good product in the end but it was not easy going.
the late Walter Matthau
There was some friction between Babs and Marty
According to David Watkin the DOP Marty bristled at taking direction from Babs
Marty can never speak ill of Babs (to give his side of the story) because he signed a confidentiality agreement before filming began.
How old was Streisand's character supposed to be in this movie?
Did Babs and Mandy fool around during the making of Yentl? Didn't he also have a fling with PLuP during Evita?
Who the hell is Barbra Patinkin? His sister? or then wife? What part did she play?
And who's Marty?
I'm talking to you, r12
Mandy also got naked in "Run, Ronnie, Run," but it's not worth watching (or even fast-forwarding through.)
I saw Mandy Patinkin on Later (Linda Ellerbee hosting) and he said he did NOT get along with Barbra. He must have been tired and told the truth instead of the prepared bullcrap.
I always assumed that Mandy secretly resented that Barbra made her character the only singer in the movie.
Who is Marty?
[R16] [R20] Marty -- that prissy, rich boy -- was my bottom bitch from the day he arrived at the Triple R Ranch.
Talk about an eldergay reference, R21. Wow.
Sadly I got it.
Weren't Spin and Marty the creative force behind 'Puff'nstuff' and 'The Bugaloos'?
I was a nanny for wealthy families in Manhattan, not a stabbin' one, mind, but one nonetheless. Mandy and Katherine's sons went to the same school as some kids I was helping another nanny take care of, some fancy shmancy school that it's really hard to get into which I can't remember the name of. Mandy came one time to pick up his kids and I watched him and when I looked again, Katherine was watching me watch him sort of like, isn't he great? He did seem great with his kids, actually. They have very old testament names like Issac and Jacob or something like that....
Mandy Patinkin is so full of himself it is a wonder he doesn't explode.
Mike Nichols fired Mandy from Heartburn after he tried to give Meryl Streep advice on how to play a scene.
Did Streep complain? I read Nicholson developed a big crush on Streep as the replacement. So it's feast or famine.
He's been on Homeland for a couple of seasons now. How does he get along with Ms. Danes?
