• The rewrites aren't that extensive, and they certainly don't "sink" the movie.

• The rewrites may not sink the movie, but the voiceover narration by Rose does totally transform the point of view, and the idea that Rose herself would be telling the story just doesn't work--for one thing, it encourages the audience to identify with her, which is what we are not supposed to do--until maybe "Rose's Turn," if at all.
