Rep. Brian Bilbray concedes to Scott Peters

11/16/12 In another blow to California Republicans, Rep. Brian Bilbray has conceded his race against Scott Peters for the San Diego-area seat, ending the Republican's second go-round in Congress. Bilbray called Peters Friday to offer his congratulations (and some Beltway housing tips), according to a Bilbray spokesman. The San Diego Republican trails the Democratic port commissioner by 3,877 votes, a gap that has continued to widen since Nov. 6. He leads 50.7 percent to 49.3 percent, with 120,000 ballots remaining countywide and an unspecified amount left to be counted in the 52nd Congressional District. Peters, a former president of the San Diego City Council, had all-but declared victory, traveling to Washington this week for freshman orientation and to meet with party leaders. Bilbray, who served two six-year stints in the House, also was in Washington for the lame-duck session. Peters was able to overcome a roughly 2-point Republican registration advantage in the redrawn district, which stretches from Poway though La Jolla, Clairemont, downtown San Diego and Coronado.
