A friend of mine has quit e-mailing me.

We used to e-mail at least once a day, but he stopped e-mailing me. I quit e-mailing after I stopped getting responses. Maybe he's too busy. But his e-mails were usually like 3 lines long, so it's not like they were time-consuming. I guess he has gracefully extracted himself from our friendship.

• You got de-friended. Let it go. Stop wondering and move on.

• If you have a life outside the internet something like this is far less devastating.

• Maybe he's dead.

• I haven't seen my friend since July. Maybe he's given up on us seeing each other again.

• if his emails were "only" three lines long, it sounds like yours were really long. maybe he couldn't keep up with your tomes

• E-mail can become an annoying obligation. I have a close friend who likes to e-mail me what I consider silly stupid stuff. You know, those things you're supposed to pass on, words of wisdom and such. You'd think she'd know me better after all these years. I don't respond to those because I don't want to encourage it but I still like her and enjoy seeing her. I just don't want to be trapped in the never ending e-mail cycle.

• From my personal experience, OP, your gut instinct is right. It's not that he's de-friended you. It's just that a constant flow of communication with you is not his priority -- at least not now. He doesn't miss you if you guys go through long periods of not communicating. If people tell you that they're too busy to call or to email, it's not true. People will and do make time for things and people they care about and friendship that they want to nurture. Some people are just too afraid to tell you the truth and hurt your feelings.

• This is why I stopped using emails other than for information. I still occasionally fall into the trap. I hate the silences and non-responses you sometimes get. I then whine to my BF about it. I found some (great) old photos of my brother and his wife a few weeks ago.Scanned them, sent them...nada. I've ignored emails from him too...so it's tit for tat, I guess. I also have some great old video footage of his now adult kids. I was tempted to edit it and put it on YT for them but I know his response would be irritatingly tepid so I won't bother...I'm learning.

• Still no e-mails. I've decided not to send him anymore, but if he reaches out to me, I won't hesitate to resume the friendship.

• OP what did you do? Did you piss HIM off in any kind of way. Did you play games with him? Are you nice to him? Who knows maybe he is just really busy or maybe you're not telling us the whole story.
