Australia - Royal Commission into institutional responses to instances and allegations of child sexual abuse in Australia

The Prime Minister of Australia has announced that she is recommending establishment of the Royal Commission (i.e. major inquiry). It has been suggested that such a large inquiry, which would be established under the Royal Commissions Act 1902, might take up to five years to complete. The proposed establishment of the Royal Commission is in response to on-going suggestions that institutions (e.g. churches) covered-up instances of child sexual abuse and/or failed to properly act in response to allegations of child sexual abuse.
