- And Ronald Reagan was the one who started this Conservative Entertainment Complex
- R1 Give credit where credit is due.
Rupert%20Murdoch
- Yeah, that is pretty much it in a nutshell. There is no way for the two parties to govern successfully together if the Democrats are operating on the basis of reality and the Republicans are over-the-line batshit crazy and operating in a fanciful universe they have constructed entirely for themselves.
- David Frum is Canadian. His mother was considered the Mother Theresa of Canada.
- Sell, his mother was a much respected Canadian journalist who died fifteen or twenty years ago, but she was no Diane Sawyer (though probably a better journalist) and she was certainly no Mother Theresa. She just interviewed people with thoroughness and a restraint. If she'd lived she probably have been replaced by a pair of blonde implants and be suing for wrongful dismissal.
- According to Linda Frum book on her mother, the CBC was planning to merge the show with the National at any time.
Which would have left her without a job, as Peter Mansbridge wanted to the entire hour to himself.
- zzzzzz canadian gossip zzzzzzzzzzzzzz
- LOL - and about the dead!
- It's like they're waking up from a fog.
Yet more evidence that we have been living in fantasyland for too long now. I don't want to hear that this is all Romney's fault, or all the campaign's fault. The simple fact is that in the run-up to this election, we were fed a steady diet of lies, from all our "loyal" sources. We need to hold not only the Romney campaign accountable, but also the conservative press (specifically the Murdoch press - Fox was the worst of the bunch), and the establishment talking heads like Karl Rove and Peggy Noonan. We need to get clear about something: these people are selling us a product. They have been taking our money and telling us bedtime stories. We complain about the MSM, but can we honestly say that the conservative press has been more honest? How do we expect to win elections if we can't even get straight facts about the electorate? But maybe it's our own fault. There was practically a revolt around here when Erik said he didn't think the polls were false. And yet he was right, and they were right. Have we become allergic to the truth?

- Seriously, R9. One poster suggested that it was rascally Dem coders who wrote the ORCA program. Other people set him straight. They're finally realizing that you can't blame Democrats for everything.
- What's ironic is that for years Republicans told everyone not to trust the press, then they did.
-
We need to get clear about something: these people are selling us a product.
Well, boo fucking hoo. Caveat emptor, dummy.
- What the hell did Peggy Noonan have to do with this mess? She's a sort of country club, pearls and knits, feel guilt if you fuck the Mexican man with the lawnblower one over ginned afternoon type, but she's no Tea Partier.
- R13 Peggy is part of the talking heads of the Conservative Entertainment Complex. No one is calling her a Tea Partier.
-
What the hell did Peggy Noonan have to do with this mess?
She was on Fox News and in the Wall Street Journal predicting a huge Romney win, and the wingnuts believed her. She claimed that the pollsters and statisticians like Nate Silver who were predicting an Obama win must be wrong because she saw lots of Romney yard signs and just knew in her heart that Romney would win. She said people should put more trust in their gut feelings than in things like polls, data, and evidence.

- And, if I recall correctly, Peggy was pushing "Romney is going to win" as late as the morning of Election Day. Every now and again, she might say something that is marginally reasonable, but it is not often enough. So, yeah, she is part of the problem.
- OK, that explains Peggy. I always thought she was just primly telling gentle fairy stories about the shining city on the hill. I didn't know there was Kool Aid in her flask all these years.
- It is Kool Aid mixed with a [bold][italic]very[/bold][/italic] heavy pour of gin.
- R4, no she isn't
- He was part of the Republican circus
- I would hope the rethugs continue with their heads deeply buried up their own asses. Fox was somewhat of a help in getting some of our liberal voters motivated. The more fauxTV talks stupid, the more of their jibberish is second hand repeated and heard by some unmotivated liberals. This certainly didn't hurt our Obama turnout.
- David Frum already has a "Why Romney Lost" book ready to go. Wow!
- Pegs was right in the way a stopped clock is about Sarah Palin, but I've never been able to take seriously someone who saw Ronald Reagan through the filter of a foot fetish.
BTW, her WASP-matron-with-Locust Valley Lockjaw schtick is just that.

- Is there a scorecard for keeping track of which Republicans are blaming who?
Frum & Scarborough - blame Rush and Fox News
Rove - blames ?
Coultergeist - blames ?
Karen Hughes - blames rape candidates
Bill O'Reilly - blames black and latino people who want stuff
Who else?
- Rove blames Democrats for "voter suppression," i.e., being big meanies who ran truthful ads about his candidate.
- He really will say anything, won't he?
- I learned from DL that Republicans accuse others of what they themselves are guilty of. In this case it's voter suppression.
- The person in r9's post is going to get run off of that website for being too reasonable.
Let's hope they are and the party of cray-cray sinks deeper into the throes of delusion.
- It's really rich to hear Karl Rove (!) accuse the Democrats of (GASP!) running NEGATIVE ADS AGAINST THEIR OPPONENT! Gee, I wonder where the Democrats got that idea from?
-
I learned from DL that Republicans accuse others of what they themselves are guilty of.
Projection has been their stock-in-trade for as long as Rove has been running things.
- Mittens blames Sandy and Chris Christie, correct?
Which ones are blaming Mittens himself?
- Rove blamed Sandy.
-
We complain about the MSM, but can we honestly say that the conservative press has been more honest?
Note - they are still peddling lies and maintaining a false reality een as they pretend to expose them.
Do you really think the "conservative press" a la Rupert Murdoch, owner of a global media empire that includes FOX News and the Wall Street Journal, is NOT part of the "Mainstream Media?"
- R22. Frum has been working on his "Why Romney Lost" book for six weeks. He didn't start the day after the election.
- Yes, David Frum told Chris Matthews/Hardball on MSNBC that he started on the book six weeks ago.
- God, I forgot about Karen Hughes.
-
It is Kool Aid mixed with a very heavy pour of gin.
It's common knowledge that Peggy likes her some single malt.
-
Mittens blames Sandy and Chris Christie, correct?
Yes.
- Frum & Scarborough - blame Rush and Fox News
Rove - blames everyone and everything but himself
Rush - blames a Mitt smear campaign by Dems
Coultergeist - blames ?
Karen Hughes - blames rape candidates
Bill O'Reilly - blames black and latino people who want stuff
Mittens - blames Sandy and Chris Christie
Charles Krauthammer - blames Mittens
Steve Schmidt - blames Trump and Rush
Laura Ingraham - blames Mittens and "entitled minorities"
Also in play somewhere are ORCA programmers, Candy Crowley, the United Nations, Paul Ryan and more.
- Fox & Friends: The hurricane and that one Black Panther guy.
- Frum will be roundly trashed or ignored, but he's right. The GOP has made a deal with the devil in aligning itself with FOX. They've roused their base, but they've limited it as well.
A lot of people who might be sympathetic to certain tenets of conservative doctrine would be repulsed at joining up with the likes of Coulter, Hannity, Palin, and the sour, accusatory columnists at the National Review.
- I remember walking through Montreal years ago, with all the poor peasants starving on the street. It really worried me, until a Canadian friend told me about what David Frum's mother was doing for these pitiful souls.
- They discover this every time they lose an election. Then they get amnesia.
- Why Did Romney Lose? Conservatives Blame Single Women
There are many reasons for this divergence, including age, income, and racial differences between the single and married women, but right-wing media looks to be settling on a favorite explanation: Loose gals vote Obama. Unlike, say, Sean Hannity's now evolving position on immigration, clearly morphing in order to somehow get his guys a few Latino votes, this impulse to label single women as sluts is certainly no one's idea of voter outreach. But it does serve the dual purpose of demonizing Obama voters and reminding Fox News and rightwing talk radio audiences of their favorite porn narratives. Laura Ingraham, sitting in as host of The O'Reilly Factor last night, brought together a panel of church ladies to sneer at the unmarried and their wanton ways:

- I never liked Frum on Real Time but shockingly he's written a couple of things lately that made complete sense. His article about abortion was on point.

- Glenn Beck blames Catholics, John Boehner, people who make less than $50,000/year, Karl Rove, blacks, Jews, and college students.
He is the worst kind of fool, but the video of his shock and awe is absolutely hilarious.
