The campaign invested heavily in untested GOTV mobile software that largely failed to activate volunteers on Tuesday. It was sold and designed by well-connected Republican political firms. Meanwhile the conservative media and consultancy class spun a cocoon about Romney's imminent triumph while the Obama team was outplaying them. What kills me is here was a candidate running on the basic idea that he was a superior manager who could turn the country around. And yet he ran a campaign that was rife with infighting and easily taken in. For much of their history, including their very founding, Mormons have shown a vulnerability to con men. It appears Romney is not immune to that inclination.
