Johnny Weir ****B-O-M-B-S**** In His Amateur Comeback comes in LAST PLACE!!!!!!!!
Eat it bitches!
Weir finishes in 10th place, out of 10 skaters.
Ha ha ha ha ha!!!!!
To be a World Bronze medalist and to come LAST in a major international competition. Is a HUGE embarrassment.
Especially since some of the skaters he was up against don't have the experience on the ice he does.
He's been too distracted by his *life* and he's gotten silly - sillier.
He would rather be a flaming queen than a good skater.
The problem with Johnny Weir is he blames everyone else for his shortcomings, except himself.
He blames the judges, he blames fellow skaters, he blames the media, he blames the association.
The skating world didn't do a number on Johnny. Johnny did a number on Johnny.
To be a good skater you have to practice, practice, practice.
But Johnny doesn't want to do that, instead pursue being Johnny Weir.
Which is fine. But at times like these don't blame other people for your mistakes. Man up and accept responsibility.
Strange choice of words to apply to a skating drag queen.
Why is the OP so thrilled about this? Yet again, it's bizarre how hostile DL is to openly gay celebrities. You don't have to like him, hell I don't even really like him, but I don't see that he's done anything to elicit such excitement at any failure. But of course I do know why, because he's femme of course. Femmephobia rears its ugly head again.
Sorry R10, I'm not buying it. There are lots of GLBT celebs that are well-loved here on the DL forums. Johnny isn't liked by everyone, and so what? He is more interested in D-list fame than he is in dedicating himself to his sport. He's come across as an opinionated famewhore. In his defense, he still has time to improve before the Winter Games in 2014.
Besides, you like him, don't you? Clearly EVERYONE doesn't hate him.
[quote] I don't see that he's done anything to elicit such excitement at any failure.
He doesn't take any responsibility for his skating. Every time he has failed on the ice (which has been many times) he never takes responsibilty. It is always someone else's fault.
It is the judges fault, or it was his fellow skater's fault, or it is his coaches fault, or it is the USFSA fault, the list can go on.
But he never says I'm the one responsible for my skating.
Plus he never goes to practice, thinking he can make it up as he goes along. And then blames others for his failures.
In that regard R12, he is like an American Emanuel Sandhu. If there ever was a skater more adept at playing the blame game, it was SHEmanuel. Guess Johnny has taken his place as Queen of DENIAL on Ice.
r11, what it boils down to is he is d-list, as you admit. So there wouldn't even be a thread about this has-been skater if he wasn't gay, let alone one overwhelmed with joy at his failure. So yes it is DL's usual hypercritical attitude about openly-gay celebs, especially if they aren't str8-acting.
He brought a unique personality and artistic skating style to the sport. He has many fans. Everyone fades sometime. He was popular internationally where skating fans don't get worked up about gay people.
Research what happened in Canada when they worked to oust the gay skaters.
Rudy Galindo is as gay as anyone on the planet. If you are old enough to remember when he came from no where to win the US championship you were cheered, especially if you knew his back story. He is one of my heroes.
My problem with a thread like this is, when you and others mock and make fun of Johnny that same ridicule and mockery is to ALL OF US.
R15 you need another hero
Johnny is only in for Johnny
R14 & R15 it has nothing to do with him being Queeny, flamboyant, trying to attract attention to himself or even being a famewhore. He can be all those things, that is fine.
But he never puts down on the ice when it counts. Then he turns around and blames everyone else for his poor performance, never taking responsibility for his skating.
THAT IS THE ISSUE. He bombed because he didn't practice and arrogantly thought he could coast through a competition after two years away.
He never goes to practice, instead focusing on his ten zillion other projects.
If he wants to be a success on the ice, he has to put in the time.
According to the link from R9, Weir is listed as WD for withdrew.
Don't know the reason, but OP can stop gloating that he FINISHED last.
1. Johnny Weir has been THE Gay communities defender in a world dominated by Republican women and closeted males still living like it was the Cold War era.
2. Even finishing last, Weir brings more media attention to the sport, than any other skater in the world.
3. Age 25 is the limit of being competitive, all male skaters who compete after this age today, are working against their biological clocks and losing badly (Plushy, Abbott etc.)
4. Figure Skating has more "anti-Weir" characters (Kurt Browning, Scott Hamilton, Kristi Yamagucci, Rachel Flatt, Skate Canada, JM Smuckers etc.) than the entire Republican Party.
5. Homophobia has killed figure skating in North America and Europe. Asia, where homophobia is still acceptable and not discussed, is the future. Figure Skating is fast becoming an Asian sport.
[quote]But he never puts down on the ice when it counts.
People brow-beat Cohen and Bobek for the same reasons. They all have NATURAL TALENT that they piss away instead of practicing and becoming legends.
It has nothing to do with him being gay or flamboyant. It has to do with him pissing away his talent on the ice and trash talking off the ice.
Put your skating where your mouth is or pay the consequences.
R 15 can you read? I did not say Weir was my hero I said Rudy Gallindo was.
Find the Sports Illustrated story about Gallindo winning the national title and you will see why. Best to read before you snark.
R18 he finished last, 10th out of 10 competitors after the short program.
R21 I am a Rudy Galindo fan myself.
NO ONE of you bitches better say jack about Rudy. He's awesome. He rules.
Now carry on.
Why are you ignoring that he had tremendous success in his earlier skating career?
You behave as if all of his earlier success never happened and you recognize only his failures.
Look at his wikipedia entry for a list of all his successes/winnings in his earlier career.
Is this this the cool way of saying, "I agree"? And, please tell me you're not 45 years old using this languange...I know hte average age on Datalounge is 50.
Why is the OP so excited to see Johnny Weir not succeed?
OP has really poor character.
Rudy was the first, but Rudy is not in your face and political like Weir. Rudy Galindo doesn't scare the homophobia out of the establishment, Johnny Weir does.
And Rudy doesn't trash talk other people, unlike Johnny who does.,
R27 Johnny needs a does of his own trash talking medicine.
Like at least 50% of the figure skating community hasn't publicly trashed Johnny Weir first.
During the 2010 Olympics, Canadian CTV/RDS sport reporters telling Johnny Weir he needed to be gender tested, was pretty well the biggest Global news item spin off of the games. Imagine inviting somebody to your country to compete and then saying this about him. Talk about poor manners to the extreme!
Typical jealous gay men. Can't stand that a gay man is doing what he loves, getting paid for it and most of all is famous.
Johnny is going to struggle on his comeback. Quad jumps are required to even get on the podium now. Johnny has always struggled to do quads.
I watched the entire second season of Be Good Johnny. In one of the later episodes, Johnny won a people's choice award for favorite skater at the big skating awards (I forget what it's called). Before the ceremony he was told he couldn't give a speech, instead he was just to get the award on stage and leave. He wasn't even allowed to talk to press inside the building. If figure skating was accepting of gay athletes than gay skaters would have come out a long time ago while they were competing.
Who is being jealous? All we are saying is put up or shut up.
He needs to lay it on the ice.
Why are you making excuses for him?
A lot of the US homophobia is driven by Scott Hamilton. He is a regular speaker on Pat Robertson's 700 Club at link.
R32, your ugly attitude reflects very poorly on your own character.
Your attitude is repulsive, repellent, and repugnant and you are a lousy human being.
I watched the two performances on YouTube. First of all, he's out of shape. Even a little fat. This makes him sluggish, slow and he can't get height on his jumps.
Second, he's got some weird ass technique on his jumps now. Some kind of back-and-forth edging thing into his quad, and very deliberate turns into the axel and flip. Mao Asada starting doing this and was never the same again.
Third, he's getting older and is from a different scoring era, and it shows. Shades of Kwan and Cohen. The footwork is too easy, the skating skills too shallow, simplistic choreography.
Fourth, his programs and costuming have moved from iconoclastic to silly. Using a "Bad Romance" instrumental for the short is like showing up at the Met doing Circus of the Stars.
If he can't sort these things out like a proper athlete, then he should just go on to reality TV or do a porn video with Chris Crocker.
Get the fuck off the internet, r34.
R34 he needs to put up or shut up
That is sport. Deal with it.
Thank you R35
Again in sport you have to change with the times, or you get left in the dust.
That is sport. Deal with it.
r7, the second season of his Be Good Johnny Weir show just ran it's final episode about 3 weeks ago.
Logo ran the second season instead of Sundance Channel. I haven't heard if there will be a third.
Weir has already made the most significant impact on figure skating of any male in his generation. Whether he wins or loses skating competitions at this point, is secondary. Weir is already on the front cover of the history book.
Nobody outside of the very small world of figure skating fans, knows who that is R41.
Mainstream America knows who Johnny Weir is, so does mainstream Canada, England, Russia, Japan and Australia. The people who don't ever watch figure skating, still know who Johnny Weir is. Ask any straight guy for the name of a male figure skater and your more likely to get Johnny Weir. However I realize that the FSU exists in its own very distinct world, immune to the other 7 billion people on the planet.
I love Johnny Weir.
Per R35's critique of Johnny's performance at the skating competition of the last couple of days, I remember Johnny's performance of his two programs at his last Olympics.
I remember at that Olympics Johnny's footwork was too easy and not complex enough as was his choreography.
I think Johnny did not invest in paying a top notch choreographer for that Olympics nor for his current programs.
He either does not have the money to invest in a top notch choreographer or he does not wish to spend the money to hire one and prefers to save his money.
The complexity of his footwork and his choreography was deficient at that Olympics and apparently currently. (I haven't looked at youtube yet for current programs, but will)
Was he really out there to win at this stage? Maybe he just wanted to participate a few more times in real competitions before shutting that part of his career down. What's the big deal?
R45 he said he's back to win an Olympic medal.
I'm surprised he is still competing. I always thought the shelf life of a figure skater was very short.
Evan whatshiname is having difficulty in coming back too.
He supposedly is out with a groin injury.
Since doing excessive quads in practice can eaily result in groin injuries, I'm not surprised if he does actually have a groin in jury.
Lysacek is just as likely to have that groin injury from excessive squats in the bedroom as from excessive quads in practice.
r46 - Hmm, JW does like to talk a good game though. I wonder if he's serious or just knows that saying that will get him more play in the media?
Either way, if he's happy, good on him.
I didn't know Vera Wang was into watching Gay guys have sex? What a perv she is!
Johnny Has WITHDRAWN, chilluns!!!
MOSCOW, November 10 (R-Sport) - Four-time Grand Prix winner Johnny Weir told R-Sport on Saturday that he was withdrawing from the Cup of Russia due to an old knee injury flaring up.
Weir was competing for the first time since the 2010 Winter Olympics but pulled out before Saturday’s free skate in Moscow and could now be out of the Trophee Eric Bompard next week.
“This is a very terrible setback and I’m not happy, but things happen in sports,” Weir said.
The three-time U.S. champion said a problem with his anterior cruciate ligament had hampered his short program skate on Friday, when he finished tenth in an error-strewn performance.
“About a month ago I had a terrible fall in practice and then I reagitated the same injury with my ACL at the beginning of this week and yesterday I tried in the competition,” he said.
“This is not what I wanted to happen here and I wanted to compete and to perform and I’m so sad.”
Patrick Chan of Canada leads from Russia’s Konstantin Menshov ahead of the free skate.
Weir, 28, said he expected crisis talks with his national federation about the Trophee Eric Bompard.
“I’m unsure if they’ll be open to it, simply because I’ve withdrawn from one Grand Prix and the other one could give a chance to another skater that has never competed in a Grand Prix before, so this evening I’ll be sitting on the phone with America all night,” he said.
Weir admitted he is not yet in top competitive form following his decision to return to the competitive circuit after two years away.
“I’ve had problems with my body and my condition since I’ve come back to the sport. I’ve had a very rapid weight loss to get prepared and my body hasn’t completely learned again what it’s like to fall,” he said.
Is he adopted? He looks nothing like his parents.
It's obvious that he's more interested in being an out, gay personality than a serious skater. It's what he does best so skating takes a back seat. He's a fabulous queen and just needs to forget the ice skates.
[quote]Is he adopted? He looks nothing like his parents.
His mother bears an unfortunate resemblance to Linda Hunt.
R54 let's have a look at your mug. I love to criticize faces. Johnny has a killer bod.
R42, I really don't think that's the case. Only reason I recognize his name is because of DL but I still wouldn't be able to point him out in a line up. If that's the case with me, straight guys/mainstream are less likely to know about him.
Anal sex loosens the sphincter and hinders the proper execution of the salchow.
LOL R61, now we know what happened to Tim Goebel.
Why do people think denying Johnny Weirs celebrity status, makes it come true? Any other American figure skaters currently with their own reality TV show? Any other figure skaters personally promoted by Lady Gaga?
Probably didn't do a quad jump in the comp.
R63 he is using skating to ENHANCE his celebrity status.
If he is not interested in competitive skating, he should stick to the pro world.
But since the pro world is non-existent for skaters, he is sticking amateur for the publicity and to enhance his own persona.
We will see how hungry Johnny is to compete. He got a bye to Nationals because he is skating in two Grand Prix events.
But since he withdrew from one this past week (actually coming in last place after the short) and his participation in next week's GP is in doubt. The USFSA may force him to compete in sectionals to get to Nationals.
Meaning he would have to compete in a very low-level competition where he would be competing against very junior skaters. And very hungry skaters wanting to get to Nationals.
Sectionals are considered a b-list competition, not something worthy of a former Olympian.
But he might have no choice, as the USFSA and the US judges want to see how he fares up against other skaters, before giving him a pass to Nationals.
If he pulls out of Sectionals, then all of this was just publicity, because competing in sectionals are more embarrassing than falling on the ice on TV.
"because competing in sectionals are more embarrassing"
I will bet you some USFSA or ISU exec convinced Weir to compete because they needed the audience boost. Regardless of how well he does, Weir is a big ratings booster.
It is official. Johnny has withdrawn from his next schedules competition, Trophee Bompard in France.
Looks like he will have to skate in Sectionals to qualify for Nationals. If he refuses, the season is already over for him.
Johnny Weir is hungry and tempestuous.
Sectionals can be brutal if you're not prepared.
They only need Johnny Weir to show up. Then the fans will come. They don't need him to win and he would rather be shopping anyways.
Regarding the comments on Sectionals, didn't Boitano have to go to Sectionals when he regained his Olympic eligibility so he could go to the '94 Olympics? I think he had to go through the whole process again since he had given up his eligibility before getting back. I agree with the comments about Weir not putting it all out on the ice, but I would say that was Johnny in his later career. I'd see him practice perfect quads then never try them in competition. I used to love figure skating but it just sucks now anyway. The new scoring system has taken all the beauty and grace from the sport. Skaters have to contort themselves into all kinds of ridiculous positions to get the highest levels on spins. Hmmm. Maybe that's why the sport is overtaken by power bottoms?
The Grand Grand Prix final NO US MALE has qualified.
FOUR men from Japan, plus Patrick Chan have qualified.
Johnny Weir is like the Lady Gaga of Figure Skating. You think the judges will take him seriously?
R73 Boitano got a bye to Nationals, providing he skate in Skate America.
They made Todd Eldredge skate in sectionals to get to Nationals.
Johnny was given a bye to Nationals, providing he skate in the Grand Prix.
He didn't do that. So who knows what will happen. But Johnny is keeping up with his Beauty column. Too bad he is not putting in the same energy with his skating
I'd rather Johnny win, than the overrated (over-scored) Patrick Chan.
How does anyone on this thread know Johnny's skating regimen?
He's aged, he's injured, and he's not as competitive, but from what I understand, he's devoted to practicing. He's just fading, and he knows it.
I admire him for being open about himself, and kicking ass out there.
I also don't recall ever reading or hearing about him 'blaming other people' for his shortcomings. At all. He's been loyal and submissive to his very dogmatic and insanely fascistic trainers...from what I've seen.
Again, how does anyone come up with him being lazy and bored and petulant?
R74 that is all semantics. No single Canadian male has ever won the Olympic Gold metal in all history. Several US skaters have won the OGM.
Even if Chan wins in Sochi, he was trained by US Figure Skating at their facility in Colorado Springs. So technically, it is still an American victory. Virtue/Moir were also trained in the USA.
What does it matter who wins? The judges will give it to Chan, no matter how bad he skates. That's why Figure Skating is losing its viewers.
When I'm good, I'm good, but when I'm bad, I'm shitty.
[quote]Even if Chan wins in Sochi, he was trained by US Figure Skating at their facility in Colorado Springs. So technically, it is still an American victory. Virtue/Moir were also trained in the USA.
If that was an American victory, he would be officially skating for the USA. I mean, Canada? Really??
Patrick Chans parents came from Hong Kong, gave birth to Patrick Chan on Canadian soil, then sent him to the USA to be trained as a figure skater.
How exactly does Canada factor into that? Other than Canadian tax payers foot the bill for all of it.
The women's figure skating is boring too, only Asian women competing for the Gold.
The American girl should have gotten 2nd place, they are overscoring the Japanese women...no surprise!
Not fair! He should get extra points for keeping that 9 inch butt plug in his ass as he is skating!
When Weir actually does leave figure skating, audience numbers will drop to local Cable station levels.
R87 Figure Skating is already at record low numbers, with Weir in competitions.

"Oh my God. I'm back. I'm home. All the time, it was... We finally really did it ... You Maniacs! You blew it up! Ah, damn you! God damn you all to hell!"
We are switching to the new platform for The DataLounge this weekend. All of our mobile users have been using it for over a week and all first time users have been using it for about a month - which adds up to well over one million users. So we're ready to end this phase of the testing and move everybody to the new site. (more)
And yes, we've changed the look and some of how it operates.
Yes, we know you just *hate* it in well in advance.
Yes, we know we suck.
Yes, we are the biggest suckers that ever sucked.
But it was time for a change and with the huge shift to mobile it was long overdue. We've taken this opportunity not only to update the look but also make major changes under the hood (or "bonnet" if you're either British or pretentious or both). And we have to prepare for 2016 - a presidential election year where we can normally expect to see a 60% jump in traffic (yes, we've seen 5 presidential elections so far…Christ we're old).
The site has a bunch - nay, plethora - of new features which will make the site more usable: better search, the ability to ignore posters and threads, see link previews, to pick up a thread where you left off, spam and malware filtering and more.
If you want you can go explore and see for yourself, Click here.
And while running the tests we've noticed two interesting reactions to the new system - people are spending more time on the site and more people that come stay around longer and look at more stuff. Both good things. Yay!
Possibly we've not slain all the dragons and there will be issues that come up during the switchover. There's a help button in the lower right hand corner of the page which you can use to send us bug reports.
Please include as much information about the hardware (PC, Mac, Tablet, Phone etc), operating system (Windows, Mac OS, Android, iOS etc) and browser (Chrome, Safari, Opera, Internet Explorer etc) that you are using as possible to help us replicate and fix the problem.
Please note that complaints about colors, fonts, icons and the like are not "bugs" - they are design choices that we've made and we expect one or two cases of world-class bitching. But they won't actually cause headaches, scurvy, heart attacks, Restless Leg Syndrome, Morgellon's Disease or the vapors (but have your smelling salts at hand just in case).
Talking to DataLounge servers. Please wait a moment...
