"Play Misty For Me"

Caught this again on cable the other day. It's a good film, and obviously what inspired "Fatal Attraction". Jessica Walter was so manic in this that it's almost comical at times, but her performance is brilliant. Eastwood is good too, if a little stiff at times.

• Walter was nominated for a Golden Globe but lost to Jane Fonda in "Klute" but overlooked for an Oscar nomination.

• She should've won the GG. She made Glenn Close look like Carol Brady by comparison.

• One of my favorite movies. The film is frequently edited for showing on broadcast teevee but the scene of evelyn cutting up birdie is truly harrowing as is the scene at the restaurant when she asks him if the older woman is his idea of a dish.

• Clint Eastwood was bliss playing Seventies jazz in foggy Monterey or Carmel (or wherever it was set).

• I loved this movie but hate Eastwood now and I refuse to watch his movies now.

• "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" sequence in this is totally gorgeous. Worth watching just for that and the Carmel, CA scenery. Good movie.

• Clint Eastwood walked around in his underwear in one scene. This was incredibly erotic to at least one desperate gay teenager. I haven't seen it since the 1970s, but I remember still remember that.

• I remember that monster of a woman scaring nine shades of shit out of me when I saw this as a little kid (although somehow Fatal Attraction felt more realistic to me). Jessica Walter was the titan of female villains. But my favorite Clint movies are still Unforgiven and Gran Torino.
