Any Sydner DLers?
I'm traveling to Australia for about a month at the end of December to visit a friend from Melbourne. We're going to be in Sydney Dec 29th thru Jan 1st and had booked a room via AirBNB 6 months ago...and the host just canceled on us.
Are there any places fellow Aussies could recommend for us to check? What few hotels in Sydney are available are $500+ a night. The only hostels with room require a 10 night minimum stay. We've tried CouchSurfing.com with no luck.
Any secret gems?
TIA!

- I just did a quick search on Booking.com and found over 200 hotels. You'll need to sort by location and price but there's definitely going to be something for you.
If the worst comes to the worst, try the hostels in the inner city. The main Hostelling International one near Central Station is okay for a hostel and you're only there to sleep, right?

- OP - Bad timing! Very bad timing!
Try the Comfort Inn North Shore (in Lane Cove). It's a basic motel (but clean and comfortable). Quiet. About a ten minute walk to some shops and to a bus station that has express buses into the centre of Sydney (about a ten minute bus trip). I stayed there for a week a few years ago and it was fine.
It is, however, not close to the gay areas.
But any bookings for that period in Sydney need to be made NOW!

- I stayed at this place when I was there a few years ago. Very basic but clean. It's right on Oxford Street in the Paddington neighborhood, and is a short walk from the gay district and lots of restaurants. They've got rooms on your dates for $250-375AUD.

- Try the Cambridge Hotel, Gay friendly - good location, good rooms...have fun

- All Sydney hotels are a rip off. Try Travelodge on Wentworth or YWCA on Wentworth for a cheap stay in a clean room. Right off Oxford st. Hopefully you will be so busy having a great time that you will barely be in the room?
- Update please, OP (since you didn't have the courtesy to thank posters for taking the time to provide you with information).
