Here's the facts: the election was determined by .29% of the electorate

Out of approx. 116,282,000 votes that were cast for Obama and Romney, it was essentially four states - Ohio, Florida, Virginia, and Colorado - that prevented Mitt Romney from becoming President. The difference between Obama and Romney in those four states was only 340,000. This was a fucking close election.

Many, many people worked very hard - for free - to ensure that the vote was gotten out, that people were registered, and that they had the right information to make sure they knew where to vote (many people didn't). If all those people were like you, and just sat back and said "Nate Silver will save us!" then guess what? President Romney. It was seriously very close to happening.

• Actually your entire premise is completely faulty and ridiculous--you just hand picked the 4 states with the lowest voting margins that add up to 64 or more EC votes! Actually Romney could have have won any 3 of those states and lost the fourth and he still would have lost, so according to your logic the lowest voting margin in any ONE of the four states you cited actually won the election for Obama. Put your calculator away OP, you're not good at this.

• This election saw more widespread fraud and voter suppression than any before it. The fact that Karl Rove held up Fox news and Romney's campaign tells you he was stunned his tricks didn't work. THINK ABOUT IT. They were in shock because they thought the fix was in. Given the amount of $$$$$ and FRAUD the GOP poured into this election- I think it was FUCKING AN AMAZING WIN!

It was their mix of population and high numbers of electoral college votes and the relatively even mix of Democrat/Republican leaning that made them the "determining" states. But were the outcomes in California or Texas or New York not clearly predictable the attention surely would have turned to them. If Wyoming were the only "wild card", all eyes would be on Wyoming and its population of 568,000. The "deciding" states are only in that position against a backdrop of votes in other states. These states are the "undecided voters" that campaigns and news programs exalt with mounting attention as election day closes in.
