Tammy Baldwin, First Openly Gay Senator Elected Tonight!!!
History continues to be made!
http%3A//en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tammy_Baldwin%232012_U.S._Senate_election
- Has it been called?
- Wonderful!!
And, marriage equality won in Maine.
Dems retain the Senate and probably increase (if slightly) the majority.
Lots of good news.
Colorado makes recreational marijuana use legal. But, seriously, since it's still illegal under federal law, will you ever really be able to legally smoke in CO?
- Congrats to our first senator who's going to LEZ up the Senate!
This is dedicated to her and the equally fabulous Tammy Duckworth!
Love you both!

- W00T!!!
- This is AWESOME that an openly gay person has been elected to the senate!
I never thought I'd see the day!
- I wonder if departing Senator Kohl will come out now. Not holding my breath for it, but it would be nice.
Cheesehead
- 3 states passed gay marriage tonight!!!
- Me reaaally likey!
- Now wait just a cotton-pickin' minute ....
(Miss) Lindsay Graham R-Closet

Me either.

- There are at least 6 gay senators now.
Tammy is just the only one who isn't a closet case.
- That makes her the only one who counts, as far as I'm concerned.
- Tammy is the first openly gay person to win statewide. Congrats to her!
- Who's her GF?
- New Hampshire has all female representation: Two female senators, two female house members, and a female governor.
Unprecidented.
- I remember starting college in Wisconsin not even 10 years ago and thinking it was so cool and exciting that our district's congresswoman was openly gay. Now look at this shit!
- I wonder what Larry Craig has to say about this
- Free Republic must be furious.
I took a peek in there before the results came in and they were predicting that on no account would the 'dyke' win.
- R10. Funny bitch.
BM
- Her opponent, Tommy Thompson, based all of his TV ads on portraying her as a shrill, out of control, ultra liberal who was worse than Nancy Pelosi. Not a word on what his own qualifications might be.
She has done an excellent job in the Assembly for many years, and that's what got her elected. Scott Walker must be so sad...

- ...progress...
- I think Tammy Baldwin and Michelle Bachmann should both enter Thunderdome.
"2 women enter, 1 women leaves"
- Congrats to Tammy. Big, historic win.
When Mika mentioned Baldwin will be the "first openly gay Senator" earlier on Morning Joe, Joe came back (not in a nasty way, just funny): "the operative word being OPENLY."
- The days of The Closet are FINALLY coming to an end.

- As I said on another post, Madison must now be the most progressive/liberal city in the country. They have both a gay male representative in the House and a lesbian in the Senate. Even NY and SF can't say that much.
- until and unless we're unashamed to proclaim, we're gay! we're gay! we're gay! we're gay!
- I thought this read "Tammy Brown" and was excited that a Drag Race alumna had gone so far.
Still excited now that I've read it correctly, though

That is pretty funny, but he is the Tea Party. I can't believe the crap that's spewing out of his mouth this morning. I mean, I can, but it's like he didn't see the result of the election.
- it wasn't "close"
it isn't "half the country is happy/half the country is mad"
it was a decisive victory, and MORE than half went the right way and chose Obama.
i am sick of the right still spinning this to try to further their agenda.

- Now all the closet cases in the House and the Senate just look sadder and sadder in comparison, hiding behind their fake wives and voting against gays.
- At least there's one less closeted guy in the House, as David Dreier (R-CA) decided not to run for reelection.
- R31, Dreier's old seat was won by a Democrat, too!
Maybe David retired because he got sick of the closet and wanted to spend more time with his partner....
- So will Charlie Crist finally come out?
- R32 Do you think he'll finally come out?
- R33 Yes, and after he does, his beard ... er WIFE, will divorce him and marry Lindsay Graham (R-Closet).
- Since this is DL, could we get a roundup of the non-openly gay Senators?
- Tell em Large Marge sent ya!

- 6 gay Senators? I skept. I'm sure you're including Mikulski (correctly) and Graham (questionable). Who else?
- I hope Dreier not only comes out, but calls out the Republicans for vetoing him as Majority Leader solely because of his sexuality.
- Lez it up and shut it down TB!
- r39 gives me an excuse to quote Barney Frank
[quote]When openly-gay Congressman Barney Frank was asked if Dreier was not elected House majority leader because he was too 'moderate', Frank replied: "Yes, in the sense that I marched in the moderate pride parade last summer and went to a moderate bar."
