Fake Romney internal numbers were fake

Did you hear the one about how the Romney campaign leaked its internal polls to the British media? Mitt Romney is ahead by a single percentage point in Ohio - the swing state that could well decide the election - according to internal polling data provided to MailOnline by a Republican party source. Internal campaign polling completed on Sunday night by campaign pollster Neil Newhouse has Romney three points up in New Hampshire, two points up in Iowa and dead level in Wisconsin. Most startlingly, the figures show Romney and Obama deadlocked in Pennsylvania. Those numbers, obviously, were way out of line with the public polling consensus. And would, of course, mean that the top levels of the GOP machine had embraced poll unskewing: But the Romney campaign insists that pollsters have their models wrong and are overestimating Democratic turnout, oversampling Democrats and underestimating Republican enthusiasm. In any case, all of that is academic, since this morning, this: The Romney campaign now saying internals attributed to their pollster Neil Newhouse showing Mitt up in Ohio, tied in WI, PA "are incorrect" — @GlennThrush via web Oh well, those fake numbers gave the wingnutosphere false hope for one more day, and maybe that's all that mattered to the crew more adept at creating an alternate reality, than reflecting the actual one.
