Would Patrick Wilson be good to play Albin/Zaza in a movie musical version of "La Cage aux Folles"?

Why or why not? Who would be good or better if not Patrick? Thanks to Reply 34 of the "Celebrities Who Would Have Better Careers if They Had Cooler Names" thread for the idea for this thread.

• Patrick is a seriously underrated actor. He can sing beautifully, he is an accomplished stage actor, and he is very good on film. I am very disappointed that he has not had the absolutely stellar career he deserves. Plus he is gorgeous.

• In a few more years maybe.....he is still kind of young to have a son who is getting married. I doubt they'll make a movie version.....they already had Birdcage. Pretty much anybody can do movie musicals nowadays what with autotuning. (although I'm still baffled why they couldn't fix pIERCE bORSNAN IN mAMA mIA.

• I'd go with Mario Cantone.

• I didn't even know Patrick Wilson was a singer until I heard him on a Christmas album with Mary McBride - "Do You Hear What I Hear?"

• oh I thought op meant the other guy (the part Kelsey Grammar played) I think he could do that when he's older.

• La Cage is a shitty musical, why we would we want a movie of it? And Wilson though very talented is wrong for either leading role.

• No, Patrick Wilson has zero star power. he's beautiful and he has a lovely voice, but he is a vacuum on the screen. It's not his fault, but there you go. Weirdly enough, Travolta could do it, had he not already shot his drag wad with "Hairspray" (which he did poorly by insisting on treating Edna Turnblad like she had been created by Anton Chekhov rather than John Waters).

• Physically, why would he be good for this role?

• He's got a pretty face even without makeup and wig. If he does aerobic exercises and holds off working those pecs and biceps, he could look okay in dresses and gowns. And he's got great long legs!

• I think Patrick Wilson is secure enough in his hetero masculinity that he wouldn't even mind passing as a woman if he could.

• Hope a Hollywood producer and director read this thread and hire Patrick Wilson for this role.
