BREAKING NEWS: ANDERSON COOPER'S TALK SHOW CANCELLED!!!

Looks like it’s back to hard news — or an unexpected revival of ABC’s The Mole – for Anderson Cooper. Warner Brothers will pull the plug on the silver-haired anchor’s daily talker Anderson at the end of its current second season, according to the New York Times. The show’s final episode is expected to air in summer 2013.

• I guess I'm the first one who's actually sad about this...I've started really liking his show this season now that they've completely revamped the thing. Sad.

What I know about CNN is what I read here and in linked articles or what I see on occasions like today with an emergency like the storm. It seems like Cooper is simply toeing the line for a flailing and increasingly desperate CNN that's trying to keep its ratings from declining further. The network sent its news head packing earlier in the summer and has tried to make itself relevant again by trying to create news as opposed to reporting it. They accomplish this by selectively highlighting polls, news items and their own talking heads "opinion" that suggest an edge for Republicans and Romney when there really isn't/wasn't one. This is a managerial decision and Cooper is a minion. Nothing more, nothing less. It's corporate survival. Now, whether he should do this and continue to call himself a "journalist" is better question, but it's one that all CNN personnel should be asked. Now that the side schtick is being cut out for him, maybe he'll ask himself. Or just continue to be a cynical, flip asshole.

• I only saw Anderson's show a couple of times last season, and it was dreadfully boring. However, I heard that his show was revamped this season and was much better although I hadn't seen it. It would really have to improve a lot to make it accpetable viewing this season. Did it improve enough? And you never know, Anderson himself might have had a say in throwing in the towel on his talk show. Maybe he agreed. It didn't seem like it was his type of format.

• It's such a crowded landscape for talk shows this year, even Katie Couric is struggling (and she's on much better stations than most of her competition). I don't think Jeff Probst or Ricky Lake will even have a 2nd season.

Everything seemed so sterile and cool-certainly not the living arrangements of an effervescent talk show host. And one of my dear friends ran into AC near 14th Street subway station and was surprised how distant he seemed-trying not to be recognized by staring straight ahead. My friend said he came across as pretty snooty. I get the impression that on a personal level,AC is insulated and not much fun. About Live With Kelly-I don't think she gets enough credit for how good she is. She seems to adapt pretty seamlessly to the personalities of each of her co-hosts. With Regis she was the faithful daughter/granddaughter/nurse exasperated by her sometimes forgetful elder but who always knew her place and never tried to outshine him. With AC,she always treated him like the shy wallflower/nerd who needed to be stroked and coddled just to do a little dance on the floor-but he never would-for fear of looking silly and feeling embarrassed. But with Michael she seems like a new person altogether-flirtatious,bubbly and no longer tethered to wannabe Rat Packer Regis. • R72 - Not sure where you are getting your information, but his ratings were not better this season - they were worse. He debuted last season at a 1.1 and never got lower than a 1.2 (which happened once) until re-runs hit in the summer. This season, his high has been a 1.1 and most weeks a 1.0. His ratings were worse instead of remaining even with last year's (most weeks ranging from a 1.3 to 1.5) or improving. I'm guessing that's the reason for his cancellation.
