Was Donald Trump's Announcement A Gigantic, Pointless Waste Of Time Promulgated By A Venal Con Artist?
You've got to watch this. Okay Repugs, I hope you're proud of Trump, the douchebag.
Here's a summary of Trump's big surprise: Mitt Romney campaign surrogate Donald Trump will give $5 million to a charity of President Barack Obama's choosing if he provides Trump his college transcripts and passport records by Halloween.

- Wait, so this was the big October Surprise? No way! Hahahaha what a dud.
- Completely pathetic.
I bet the freepers were vastly disappointed.
- Yes
- Why doesn't trump just give $5m to a charity of his own choice if he is so eager to do good for the world?

- So let's get this straight. Anticipating that this mixed race infant born in 1961 might grow up to be president, his mother lied about his being born in Hawaii, but that didn't stop Obama from listing his purportedly correct birthplace, Kenya (yeah, right) on his college application.
Trump, you're a fucking idiot.
- I stand by Donald. He's a good friend.
Mitt Romney
- Sorry but when is Mitty releasing his tax returns?
- [quote]Was Donald Trump's Announcement A Gigantic, Pointless Waste Of Time Promulgated By A Venal Con Artist?
Do you really have to ask?
- what an asshole
- This man wants so desperately to sit at the cool kids' table, and it's just never going to happen. Sorry Trump - the GOP likes 'em successful, and white.
- Good.
It's so crass and absolutely craven that it just makes the short-fingered vulgarian look like even more of a fucking idiot. I had no idea that was possible but he's managed it.
Keep up the toolish work, Donald.
- A total bust.
- Dump Truck came up with this within a few hours of the video being uploaded.
He at first was going to drop the divorce papers. He had that leak yesterday so he could test reaction. When he saw how negative the reaction was, he had to come up with something else - and quick.
- Is Trump serious? Does he realize that the president of the United States--any president for that matter--would not consent to any sort of financial agreement even if it were completely above board and legitimate?
The president--again, any president for that matter--does not accept an "either or" proposition or ultimatum from a private citizen. Why does Trump even think that a president woud entertain this inflated request from a blowhard enemy? Obama, or anybody else for that matter, owes Trump nothing. What is so hard to figure out for him?
- Trump had something he thought would be a bombshell.
Someone high up in the GOP or the Romney campaign must have told him to shut it down.
- Now I'm wondering if he was being promised some juicy dirt by an operative, then it fell through at the last minute and he had nothing. It really does seem like it was a last-minute substitution. I wonder if R13 is right. If so, what an ass to think it would work!
- The term short-fingered vulgarian ALWAYS makes me laugh.
- Donald Trump is one disgusting piece of shit, never watching his shows again.
- I am beginning to think Trump is mentally ill. He is a big joke who will now never be taken seriously. I wish he would just go away.

- "He is a big joke who will now never be taken seriously."
Now??? Hon, he hasn't been taken seriously by anyone with 3 brain cells to rub together since he last planted a seed inside Ivana.
- I think a repost of Obama cutting Trump's balls off at the White House Correspondent's Dinner is appropriate right about now.

- Is he still a "Friend of The View?"

- Trump does whatever it takes to keep his name in the news. Why haven't people figured that out? This isn't about Obama. It's about the Donald as always. Well, it worked. People are talking about Trump. If we ignored him he couldn't stand it.
- I believe Donald Trump cost Romney the election.
- The only thing left for Dump Truck now is the Geraldo interview.

- Curious, what do New Yorkers think of him. Is he respected? Do New Yorkers think he's a buffoon? The City charming character or Uncle that scratches and farts but he's loveable?
We don't know what to think of his antics here.

- So vile. Who has ever been so insulting to any president. Let me offer money and "Dance, Boy, Dance".
- Interesting that this happens just as stories are coming out about Gloria Allred's investigation of Romney. Suspect Trump's ludicrous announcement was rushed out now just to muddy the waters. Trump's always good for a clown show distraction.

- Did Fox news even report this dud? You know it was bad when even they didn't pay it any attention.
- Please, OP, we have a request for you. You call Trump a "douchebag." To be fair, for many years, douchebags have served a discernible purpose to the human race, meaning that Donald Trump is not one of us. Please do not call Trump a "douchebag." It's demeaning to us.

- New Yorkers, like the rest of the world, couldn't care less about Trump. He's a non-entity.

- Stephen Colbert just offered to give Trump a million dollars if he can dip his balls into Trump's mouth. No kidding. Watch the show online.
- [quote]I bet the freepers were vastly disappointed.
I visited Freerepublic today for this very reason, to read their thoughts. Surprisingly, they agreed that Trump has made a foolish error.
I desperately hope that the American people of all political beliefs respect the office of the American Presidency, from President George Washington to President Barack Obama, enough to comprehend the magnitude of this disrespect and stupidity. America is not an episode of Celebrity Apprentice. This is one of the most flagrant offenses I've ever come across in an election. Truly pitiful.
Furthermore, if Trump refuses to donate $5,000,000 to charity when Obama refuses to concede, this will make him and all the rich people in this country look like true enemies of the good, hard-working American people.
I honestly want to start begging for donations until I get that 5 million and offer it to a charity of our President's choice myself.
I'm honestly in shock and awe as I watch how low this country has descended. MARY! me if you must but this really, really hurts to watch Americans acting this way.
- You're no Mary! R35, you're an authentic American.
- Try as he may, Trump will never till the end of his days live down being humiliated among those he considers his peers at a black-tie event by the most powerful man on earth, on camera.
If anyone ever had it coming, he did. That beautiful event will rightly haunt him always. Generations to come can also savour it. But, being the dunce he is, Trump will still, ever-more desperately, attempt 'payback.' Pitiful.
- That motherfucker stole my thunder.

If Mr. Trumps goes through with it, we'll make him a member.
Teabaggers
- What is Trump's personal beef with the POTUS? He seems to be obsessed with him! Is it jealousy? Does having been raised a privileged, entitled white jerk who has probably been taught all his life that people of color are inferior to him and now sees that the world prefers someone that very same person? It's driving him crazy that he no longer gets invites to important social function under an Obama administration and is treated just like everyone else!
As a private citizen,Trump would probably be in jail for his continuous, borderline treason acts against the President! He's so lucky he's wealthy.
- President Obama laughed off this latest Trump episode while on the Tonight Show:
"When Leno asked about the reality TV show star's pledge to donate $5 million to charity if the president agrees to release his college records and passport application, Obama laughed off the challenge.
He also joked that the feud with Trump goes all the way back to childhood... in Kenya.
"We had constant run-ins on the soccer field," Obama said. "You know, he wasn't very good and resented it." "

- Don't forget that Trump will be on Letterman tonight. Letterman doesn't have much use for him to begin with, so it might get interesting.
- Taking a page from the poster upthread who pointed out Trump might be in trouble for all these remarks if he weren't rich: I'd love to see Obama get eleced and then come up with some reason to arrest Trump for treason (not really, perhaps, but just to SCARE him!)'
Hee-hee.
- At what point in time do these antics destroy his brand?
He's selling class, sophistication, and quality with the the Trump name on a project (I know, I know, I didn't say any of us buy into his hype but others do), but how do you do that when your figurehead turns into a crazy old carnival barker?
The other issue is that he's very close to the line when it comes to being branded a racist. Doesn't he traditionally depend on Mideast oil money and Asians to buy his overpriced condos and gamble at his casinos?
- [quote]At what point in time do these antics destroy his brand?
Trump's "brand" has always been about selling luxe to tacky nouveau riche Americans and Eurotrash.
Truomp's buildings are mainly condos which is important in a city like New York where the best residences are in co-ops.
The people who live in Trump Tower either don't want to go in front of a co-op board or can't go in front of a co-op board.
Money cannot buy class but it can buy you an expensive condo in a Trump building.
- To R46 I don't think that Trump has anything to worry about in terms of government retaliation unless he decides to run for public office (which he didn't). And then his trial would be more in the court of public opinion then anything else. His Achilles heal in his empire is bankruptcy. He has suffered numerous bankruptcies over the years and has been able to walk away from all of them, throwing many creditors and contractors on his failed development projects under the bus while maintaining the core buildings (Trump Tower) in his empire. However when you run for office those little details have a way of coming back to life to face greater scrutiny. Linda McManon is the classic example. She is running for the US CT senate seat and made a big deal of how she came back from bankruptcy in her campaign, but failed to ever disclose the details of said bankruptcy. The local CT media tracked down the paperwork from the 1980s and out of shame she was forced to pay back those early creditors that she screwed over decades earlier to maintain her good name. Trump is smart enough to know that he would face a similar scrutiny of his finances were he to run and it is likely that he does not have the funds to fully make whole all of the people he has screwed over over the years. I also think he doesn't have the personal integrity to do so even if called upon to make such restitution payments which by law he has no need to make. It only matters in the court of public opinion.
All of this brings up an important point, the differing ways bankruptcy works for the rich and the poor. For the rich, a bankruptcy is an easy means of writing off a bad investment without suffering any hardships, for the poor the effects of bankruptcy linger longer to affect creditworthiness and your life in general. From the bank's opinion, once a rich man always a rich man, and once a poor man forever a poor man. It really is a shoddy system.
