SNL-10/20/12
Bruno Mars is hosting as well as serving as the musical guest.
If Bill Hader doesn't play Vincent Price in a Halloween Party sketch I'll be pissed.
- No doubt the new cast member Adie something will be playing Candy Crowley in the Presidential Debate sketch.
- If they don't have a sketch with the Romneybots, with all their douchebaggery, I'll be pissed.
- Have they ever had such a morbidly obese female cast member?
- bump for the show!
- I hope they nix a debate skit, this past one wasn't noteworthy at all.
- r1 called it. I'm happy for her - I can't remember SNL ever having a fat girl in the cast before and I don't think she's had more than a minute of screentime since the beginning of the season.
- Is she that fat Aussie whose been making the talk show rounds?
- Opening skit was really funny.

- He kind of looks like Martha Plimpton in the face
- Louis CK on Nov. 3!! Awesome!
- With just a wig and an outfit, Bruno Mars looked and acted more like a real woman than 99% of the drag queens out there. It wasn't campy, it was just sort of real.
Skit was terrible, though.
- Can't wait for Louis CK!
- I love him. He is a hot sexy talented little fucker isn't he? Yeah, Bruno!
- Bruno Mars looked hideous.
- [quote] Have they ever had such a morbidly obese female cast member?
Gilda Radner.

- "Haters" -- hated it
- Bruno Mars isn't a great comedian - he's not a comedian at all - and still he manages to do the most with the material he's given, he's fun to watch, and he doesn't seem to be reading off cue cards.
So good for him. The writers, however...
- I can't take my eyes off him.
- Is he gay?
And wasn't Melanie Hutsell (sp?) kinda fat, too?
- Holy shit -- that Bruno Mars did Michael Jackson perfectly.
- Did they pay Mars in cocaine?
- Victoria Jackson and Casey Wilson had a few extra pounds, though they were far from obese.
- Siobhan Fallon was chunky.
Lorne didn't like her and she didn't last very long.
- That Sad Mouse was sweet
- I love his new single - channelling the Police
- Stefon!!
- Not midget... "fun size".
- Bruno is this generation's Michael. He is talented.
- Is Bruno cut or uncut?
- luv him

- Smart move, Bruno. I had never paid attention to him before he hosted SNL. Now I'm a fan. Is he really Phillipino? He looks black. Shame about the bug eyes.
- The writing this season is really off. Even if they have the germ of a good idea, the skits just trail off into nothingness. I think they are perhaps being done in by head writer Seth Meyers' terminal smugness.
- [quote] I think they are perhaps being done in by head writer Seth Meyers' terminal smugness.
I think Seth is focused on Weekend Update and the political sketches and doesn't give a shit if the rest of the show sucks. I like Seth on Weekend Update, but they really need to replace him as head writer.
- Bruno was the best part of the show. Agree about the crazy eyes.
- How does Bruno Mars get to host?
Are they just that desperate?
- Seth is now the CO-head writer, focused on Update and topical, political sketches.
His new co-head writer focuses on the non-political stuff...

- Bruno is gay right? With his Strawberry Burst lip gloss.
- I'd do Seth in a heartbeat even though I think he just lies there during sex.
- Thanks for the link and info, R36. Colin Jost is now the co-head writer. So far, it doesn't seem to be helping.
- First episode I watched of the new season. Jesus Christ, it was terrible. Just horrid. And I love Steffon but that character is like 3 years old now. The joke is dead. SNL needs to be put down like one of Ann Romney's lame horses.
- They shouldn't have made fun of the people who asked questions at the debate. That was low.
- [quote]They shouldn't have made fun of the people who asked questions at the debate. That was low.
Don't get your Magic Panties in a bunch.
- Bruno did Michael Jackson spot on, it was kind of scary.
I agree about Stefon. Loved him in the beginning but now the joke is just old and tired.
- R40, et al.: I guess it's just me - I LOVE Stefon, and could watch "him" every week (well, every other week.) I suppose part of the "fun" is knowing Hader is cracking up. And I love the interplay between him and Seth Meyers. Last night's skit did seem a trifle tired - compared, perhaps to great season-ender (Mick Jagger hosting) last season, but I still love me some Stefon!
Oh, and Bruno Mars was great! I was surprised and immpressed (and I'm older than the hills; remember well the 1st espisode of SNL.)
Wonder how long it will end up running?...
Not Cackle Cackle but right up there in years
- Peter Gene Hernandez (born October 8, 1985), better known by his stage name Bruno Mars, is an American singer-songwriter and record producer. Raised in Honolulu, Hawaii by a family of musicians, Mars began making music at a young age.

- The girls should be idolizing Bruno Bars, instead of the no-talent Justin Bieber.
- I agree R46
Bruno Mars is almost a throw back in that he is actually a rather well rounded musician and entertainer. His SNL episode was refreshing in light of that.
He has a bit of a Jackie Wilson thing going on as well and his impersonations were really good.
- I, too, felt kinda bad about them making fun of the audience members asking questions. They did nail the humor in them, but that seems a little mean spirited to go after the little guy, even for SNL.
The first episode of the season was just absolutely wretched almost to the point of unwatchable. They completely turned it around last week's, with the VP debate...the whole show had plenty of laugh-out-loud moments, including interviewing the Chinese workers who make Apple products. But last night was back to being lame. A few funny moments in the opening, but that's where the laughs ended.
Kesha
- More Kate McKinnon! She's like a female Bill Hader -- even in an awful sketch, she mines whatever humor she can. Last night she was wasted.
- [quote]Smart move, Bruno. I had never paid attention to him before he hosted SNL. Now I'm a fan. Is he really Phillipino? He looks black. Shame about the bug eyes.
He's half-Filipino, half Puerto Rican.
- The pandora clip was amazing.

- [quote] The pandora clip was amazing.
It was only amazing because of Bruno Mars. The skit wasn't well-written (it was just an excuse to get Mars to imitate other singers), and none of the cast members had anything to contribute. That seems to be the pattern lately for SNL. If an episode is good, it has everything to do with the host and nothing to do with the cast or the writers.
- I chuckled when the Justin Bieber channel came up because I thought it was funny to have a musician/vocalist that can sing imitate a celeb that cannot.
B.o.B.
- Bruno was a good enough host, a good singer and very believable dressed up as a girl.
What was the name of his last song? You'd think it would be "Young Girls" but I can't find it anywhere.
- Bruno imitatig Justin Bieber, Katy Perry and Michael Jackson was a hoot. The guy is good.
- Maya Rudolph is so ugly. Why the fuck did Paul Thomas Anderson marry her?
- I'm seriously convinced that Lorne has a subscription to DL and posts about this show every Saturday night.
No one in their right mind has watched this unfunny shit show since the early 90s.
- r54, it's Young Wild Girls, grandpa, turn up your hearing aid and pay attention.
- I agree the writing this season has been very weak, and has been a real comedown from last season. Whoever the writers are, they're not playing to the strengths of the best people: we need far more Kate McKinnon and Taran Killam, and far, far, far less Bobby Moynihan and Kenan Thompson (they are both completely untalented hacks).
I have been really disappointed we've yet to see a return of Killam's great Andy Cohen imitation.
- r57 NAILED it. Thread closed.
- Oh you whippersnapper you, R58. Respect your elders.
He debuted the song last night so I couldn't find it anywhere when I searched for "Young Wild Girls." No one had the lyrics and it was not on iTunes. Today is a different story. At least people are talking about it.
- Bruno is very short...
- I thought this was a terrible episode, but then I can't stand Bruno Mars so being forced to watch his miniature ass ham it up for ninety minutes wasn't ever gonna go down smooth personally.
- Did you watch R57?
- "I'm seriously convinced that Lorne has a subscription to DL and posts about this show every Saturday night.

YOU'RE A GENIUUUUUS.
- Bruno's like Johnny Depp with Raul Julia's eyes.
- with Paul William's height...
- Interesting...i watched the "entire" episode on the SNL website, but they left off the Pandora sketch. Wonder if it's because of music royalties or something...it was definitely one of the better sketches of the show.
- Bruno has been impersonating Michael Jackson at least since his early teens, so he's had plenty of practice. He used to do a whole act centered around it. And yeah, that little fucker is hot and talented. You may not appreciate him completely at first, but his charisma will win you over.
