Have you been harassed for supporting Obama?

I was riding with my friend last summer and she nearly got run of the road by a bunch of teenage thugs, screaming profanities at her - because of the Obama sticker on her car. ("Obama is a "N*... You're a N* Lover!!!"). Before we could call the cops the chicken-shit punks turned down a side-street and took off. It happened pretty quick, but it made me rethink having a sticker on my own car. Has anyone here experienced anything like this?

• OP, either you are telling a story or you live in a really backward part of what I assume would be the South somewhere, or both. I can certainly sympathize with you but in this case it looks like you may have to suck it up.

• If you have a pol. sticker on your car, you're just asking for trouble. When I'm driving and I see Rep. ones, I'm not likely to be polite ie. allow you to get into my lane when you signal. To support the GOP in 2012 is repulsive for so many reasons.

• I have. I was wearing an Obama shirt to the dog park and an old white guy said "Obama?! You should be hanged." Our yard sign was what I'd hoped was stolen until I saw the metal frame slightly bent and stabbed into the ground further away. A week later our yard was set on fire. The firefighters said "it looks like an accellerant was used." My car with an Obama sticker on it was scratched and someone opened their door hard as hell on the side of it. I'd hoped these were just accidents. This was in 2008, I had a kid in the interim so I won't be visibly supporting Obama. I live in a very red county in Georgia.

• OP here: I know some of you like r5, would like to believe that this kind of behavior only happens in "backwoods" ignorant rural hick towns but don't delude yourself. I live in a metro area in a very "Blue" county. But we are surrounded by Red counties, most are very wealthy, and the kids were obviously private school brats, driving a new SUV and we were in a wealthy part of town. And yes, this is a true story.

• I no longer discuss politics with my older friends. I only receive a ribbing occasionally. What is amazing is the total lack of political signs in this election cycle. I'm not in a swing state, but there were stickers for either party all over the place in 2008. Now, the few banners and stickers I see are for county and local government. Illinois has assholes in both parties, so you have to study, pick, and choose.

• When I was growing up, it was only bigots who put bumper stickers on their cars. "America, Love it or Leave it" was a favorite. My neighbor, a hippie, had an old junkheap and he plastered these right-wing stickers all over it. I saw my first Romney sticker after the first debate, on the Long Island Expressway. The next day I saw a guy with an Obama sticker. It looked nice there under his "Harvard" sticker.

• I have a very rich friend who is supporting Romney and George Allen. She was in London during the first debate. When she got back and we were catching up I said "did you hear about the debate?" She shouted so loudly I was shocked. She said "I don't want to talk politics with you" and this was the first debate where her guy did better than Obama. I finished the call immediately because of her reaction. She had never done this before and we had always laughed at our differences. I can only imagine what she thinks after the second debate.

• No, but then I live in Madison, so all you see are Obama-Biden yardsigns and bumper stickers. Romney supporters are few and far between in these parts.

• One little shit at work tried to give me some static about having heard I was voting for Obama. I wrote his ass up and fired him the same day. One should pay attention they do not create a negative working conditions talking about their private opinions.

• A storage company has a billboard that says "Manhattan--where the gays are out and the Republicans are in the closet."

• I haven't been harassed for supporting Obama, but the dear of reprisal has kept me from putting up a bumper sticker. I know how tempted I get to key pro-life and Romney/Ryan cars...

• No. I had my Kerry/Edwards sticker molested in 2004, but got through 2008 and so far this year just fine. It helps that we live in a pretty liberal neighborhood where the vast majority of yard signs are for Obama. There are actually more for Gary Johnson than there are for Romney.

• Couple of weeks ago, someone defaced my Obama magnet, by writing NO on it. Their handwriting looked like they were a serial killer. I covered their graffiti with red marker. Today, I got to my car after work and someone had simply stolen it. People are sad fucks. After he won in 2008, someone stole our Obama yard sign. I live in an older, predominantly African-American neighborhood, so I figured someone thought it was worth something.
