Can Obama bring it home tonight?

The pressure on him tonight must be enormous. He not only has to win the debate he has to show up Romney as an ass in front of the swing voters who have swung over to Romney's side. I can't remember so much depending on just one debate since 1980 with Carter vs. Reagan.

• I hope/wish - hoping for at least a draw. Obama doesn't fight directly in the moment. He just doesn't. Or hasn't, so far. I'll be happy if he shows up clear-eyed and ample energy/presence, and if he has prepared some strong, declarative reasons to vote for him and to not vote for Romney. Those were lacking last time.

• I think Romney has more to lose. For the first time in this election people liked him but I don't think he's good enough for a repeat performance.

• Obama needs to kick Axelrod and Plouffe to the curb for their catastrophic advice for the first debate. While he can't fire them from the general campaign, he can dismiss them from giving him debate advice. Their advice makes me think they are covert agents for Romney.

• Remember what r16 says -- it can never ever be Obama's own fault.

• I heard a blurb on the news yesterday that said Obama's advisors were telling him not to be "too aggressive". WTF? Aggressive is exactly what he SHOULD be!!! I'm on pins and needles.

• Meanwhile, Rmoney lies and lies, and lies. Flip flops, and capitulates and says things he doesn't mean, just to garner 'board room style' support.

• I'm hoping Obama starts sucking his teeth like a Jamaican whenever Romney drops another deuce.

• The winner of town hall debates is always the candidate who best answers the voters' questions. That's the most important thing to watch for tonight. Obama needs to give easy to understand, but detailed answers to every question.

• OP why is only tonight's debate important? There is one more next week. I'm one of those 3-5% undecided voters from Ohio that won't vote for Romney, yet I'm hesitant to vote for President Obama. If he continues to let Romney walk all over him, I'll vote for Gary Johnson.

The choice between Romney and Obama is stark, unless you are a supporter of the religious right, extremist Supreme Court nominees, unjustified wars, and policies that lopsidedly benefit the wealthy. • R25, I suggest you look at an electoral map from the 1980 election and the one HuffPo or anyone else currently has. Your comparison is completely absurd. Reagan won with 489 electoral votes to Carter's 49. That hardly resembles the nearly tied Obama-Romney race. You're a fucking fool. You should be ashamed to be so fucking stupid.
