Sure.
A chronic, expensive-to-treat medical condition can bankrupt even folks WITH health insurance.
I am broke.
Hell no!

Goodness no, OP! I'm a millionaire and always will be.

Not really. I worry I've not been saving enough for retirement, however.
I probably will next year. My partner and I are retiring in May.
I have been, and I lived through it.
So I don't want it to happen again, but if it does, I'll survive.

When you think about it, aren't alot of us one step out of poverty? BTW, r2, are you a cute guy? If so, would you like to make some money (*wink*)? I can't guarantee your ass will be quite the same afterwards..........

please define one step outta poverty
How else can three months' salary last forever?
Well, r10, I guess the definition is more of a subjective thing isn't it? Different things to different people, but I would say that if you don't have alot of money and you have to follow a strict budget that's one definition. I think in a broader sense we are somewhat at the mercy of the economy. I am thinking of the Great Depression as one historical example and while that likely won't happen again necessarily in the same way, I think the economic upheaval of the last 10 years is enough of a sobering "taste" of what things could be like in a scenario that could easily worsen. Have you heard of the fiscal cliff that is supposed to happen next year? That kind of stuff I find unsettling--google it and find out for yourself as this is too small a space to describe it even in a nutshell.
