The original Halloween (78) is a classic. Excellently paced and genuinely frightening in a smart manner. Groundbreaking horror film that gave birth to all other "slasher films."

is it true that the michael myers mask in the first halloween movie was a mask of william shatner's face?

Except that the original Halloween was not a slasher film, certainly not on the same level as the original Friday the 13th, which was a lot of fun but neither scary nor anything to be taken seriously.
I remember when the first Halloween sequel was released and how awful it was. Instead of even trying to come up with some new twist, they just picked up the story moments after the original ended, but without the creeps or the scares, just slasher killings. The original Halloween will always be one of the all time great horror films.

You've obviously never seen Bob Clark's "Black Christmas." Halloween is a complete rip-off of that movie, including the long tracking scenes and the camera shots from the killer's perspective.

Yep. They spraypainted it white, mussed up the hair and hollowed out the eyes. If you look at it hard enough, you can tell it's Shatner.
You're right about "Black Christmas" being the first slasher flick, but Halloween is not a rip off of BC. Aside from the opening scene and people being killed with knives, Halloween is a different film with a different plot and characters.
Halloween is also the superior film of the two.
I watched a Friday the 13th marathon last night
on AMC. It was great seeing those classics again.
The first Friday the 13th is great and very scary too, scarier than Halloween, although I like Halloween a bit better.
They just don't make great movies like these anymore.
