- You should get a job writing obituaries, OP. Here's one you can file away:
"Kids Glenn Close died. Cable TV."
M
- If ever a place were wildly inappropriate for the obnoxious M troll to play his tired unfunny shtick, it was here.
You're just not funny anymore, M Troll, and it hasn't been for a couple of years. It's too played out. Put it in reserve for a few years and try to be funny doing something new.
- Dyke?
- You are a riot
- Nothing on wikipedia yet.
- According to IMdB she died October 1st.
Btw, she played Iola.
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0033639/
- Nothing on google, it's probably made-up. I looked at her imdb page and I'm surprised she retired over a decade ago. 64 is hardly too old to still be working as a character actress. I hope her Mama's Family residuals are enough to keep her comfortable.
- You want to know what's funny, R2? BOTH of us are over on the TCM thread flogging the tired old "Who Gives a Flying Fuck?" joke.
You were awfully quick to throw shade at me when you seem to have a little trouble putting old gags away yourself, hmm?
R1
- Oh you're right r6, for some reason I read that has her birth date. I thought she'd recently turned 64. Sad and that her death apparently didn't even make the news. It's also a little fishy though, such as nothing on her wikipedia page. Maybe a troll hacked her imdb page?
r7
- Am I in an alternate universe? Both Wikipedia and IMDb state that she died October 1, 2012. There is nothing about it in Google News though, apparently.
- It's on Find-a-Grave, but....
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi%3Fpage%3Dgr%26GSob%3Dc%26GSlh%3D1%26GRid%3D98524202%26
- Wikipedia has been updated
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beverly_Archer
- R2 is such a huge cunt that hoisting a neon sign that flashes "C U N T !!!!" onto Glenn Close's enormous forehead and beaming it from Mount Hollywood year-round, changing to pink for National Rotten Tit Month, wouldn't being to do justice to the enormity of that stinking, chancred, seeping cunt that R2 is.
I was sad to read this, once I understood what the illiterate, stupid OP was trying to convey. Ms. Archer was a lovely actress with a special gift.
O
- Funny woman. She was one of those working character actors who you recognized for years and years, but didn't always know her name.
RIP.
- But r2's point was that the first post of a thread announcing a celeb's death, isn't the place to post a hackneyed joke.
- I can't believe how much play that shitty old Mama's Family show gets on here.
- I watched it and thought it was a guilty pleasure, but I do get annoyed by people who try to pass it off as an actual quality sitcom. That said, Beverly did the same old maid shtick that Nancy Culp did on Beverly Hillbillies, and they were both very good at it. I'm surprised Archer didn't get more work after Mama's Family.
- You're not getting it, r1/r8.
r2's point was that rehearsing an old joke (as the first post!) is incredibly inappropriate and obnoxious on a thread that is announcing a sudden death (particularly of a actress who played a character much beloved by many posters on Datalounge).
It's like elbowing your way to the podium at a funeral service to try out your comedy routine on the mourners. It's a shitty, selfish, and incredibly inappropriate thing to do.
- Will her casket have a cozy?
- Knock. Knock.
Iola%20at%20the%20pearly%20gates
- Sad to hear this. I first remember seeing her long long ago when she starred in forgotten sitcom "We've Got Each Other" in 1977.
- Sad news! Too young! I loved Iola.
And%20I%20always%20thought%20Bubba%20was%20sexy.
- R2 and R13 are raging fucktards.
The M routine is the tiredest one on DL.
You're not funny, you're pathetic.
- R1, not r2. R1 is the tired, unfunny jerk.
Death to "M"!
- So glad it only took you two posts to figure out the challenging difference between "1" and "2" this time, R23/R24.
Practice, practice.
M
- I agree the M routine is incredibly tired. And it's especially asshole-ish to do it early on a death thread.
- R15 and R18 also are cunts.
The spirit of Beverly Archer came to me on my Ouija Board and told me so.
And she knows something about cunts.
So%20are%20these%20posters%20drunk%20misters%20or%20humorless%20sisters
- I really enjoy Mamma's Family. Iola was very funny. I hope Beverly Archer is in Heaven.
- FOR THE LOVE OF GOD WOULD SOMEONE PLEASE SHIT IN MY MOUTH?!?!!?!?!?!?!
R1/R8
-
I'm surprised Archer didn't get more work after Mama's Family.
She did Major Dad after Mama's Family. I also remember she was on The Young and the Restless in the late 90s. She played a local actress who Jill hired as her "maid" when she lived in the Chancellor Mansion. Jill wanted her to annoy Esther and Katherine. Evidently, she retired from acting in 2000 and opened up an antique store in Pasadena.
RIP Bev.
- That's a shame. She was SO funny.
- Best of Iola Lucille Boyland.

- BECAUSE I"M STUFFED WITH MY OWN SHIT BECAUSE IT'S SOOOO GOOOD!
I just wish Iola had made me a turd cozy for me!

- Beverly Archer, a television actress best remembered for her work on the 1980s situational comedy Mama’s Family and the boot camp series Major Dad, has died at age 64 from natural causes in Santa Monica, California. Archer, who shot to fame for her portrayal of the spinster homemaking neighbor Iola Boylan, died in the early morning hours of October 1, 2012 within the comfort of her private residence according to her nephew, Noah Aronoff. Archer had been a resident of Santa Monica since 2001 following her retirement from acting and television writing one-year prior.
Archer was born Beverly Aronoff on July 19, 1948 in Oak Park, Illinois and was raised in a Jewish household where her father worked as a utility salesman. Her family moved to California at a young age and she was educated at Alverno Heights High School in Sierra Madre where she was active in several drama productions and continued in her passion by studying the art at San Francisco State University and UC Santa Barbara; working in summer stock along the way. Although she appeared in several commercials in 1975 her true acting career began in 1976 on The Nancy Walker Show in which she played Nancy’s daughter Lorraine followed by another recurring role on We’ve Got Each Other.
She later grew her resume with appearances in ABC Weekend Special, The Adventures of Pollyanna, Family Ties, Spencer, The Fall Guy, Comedy Factory, My Sister Sam, ALF, What a Dummy, Married With Children, Full House, and Clueless. She also appeared on the big screen in Vice Versa, The Couch Trip, and The Brady Bunch Movie. She also wrote several episodes for Mama’s Family, Working Girls, and ALF. She made her last appearance in the made for TV movie Going Home and retired completely in 2000 at age 52. She was previously married to Robert Bernard from 1976 until her death.
Moving to Santa Monica she spent the remainder of her life gardening, granting occasional interviews, supporting Democrat politics, was active in her community and was a member of The Santa Monica Synagogue. She also was known for her extensive work with clay figures and was interviewed on the subject in 2008. According to her nephew, Archer remains were promptly cremated and her ashes scattered at sea in Santa Monica. No public or private services will be conducted.

- They should've gotten a quote from Vicki, even if they weren't close friends. Sounds like Archer was more liberal, Vicki had been a big Reagan supporter. And she also made insensitive comments about the homeless recently (that black radio announcer who was given a second chance.)
- I condole mama.
M
- What a loss. The character she played on Mama's Family gave such joy to my late mother, who had such a lousy life. I could cry. The multi-talented Beverly Archer is surely in Heaven.
Iola Boylan, you will be missed!!!
- Awww, this depresses me. This is one of those celebrity deaths that takes you a little by surprise because they were a C-lister who you hadn't heard about in years and years.
RIP, Beverly, and thanks for the laughs when I was growing up.
-
You're just not funny anymore, M Troll
[italic]Anymore[/italic]? You're too generous.
The M troll has always been the definition of 'trying too hard.'
- Thanks for the link R32. I thought she was hilarious on "Mama's Family" and will miss her.
- The really sad part for me is the speculation by the public and press as to whether she was found in the nude. She was a human being, people.
- OMG way too soon :(
- Natural causes at age 64? Mama's Family was great and she actually wrote some episodes. I wish AntennaTV would pick it up.
- Gettin a dyke vibe from her.
- Has Bubba's bulge commented yet?
- Something seems off about this. I know she wasn't a big-name actor, but you'd think her death would've been reported at E!, TMZ, People, etc.
- I also loved her as Eliza Jane on Little House. That episode where she pretends to marry the James Cromwell character is heartbreaking and gets me blubbering every time. Definitely one of those great TV character actors who flew below the radar. RIP.
-
I also loved her as Eliza Jane on Little House.
That's Lucy Lee Flippin.
- I agree with {R46}...something doesn't seem right about this.
She may not have been A-List or previous A-List but there would be a more info or details in an internet search. As of now, there's not much other than someone typing in "died October 1, 2012" on wiki as well as a link to this thread.
- I discovered her first as Nancy Walker's daughter on The Nancy Walker Show. I remember that she was wonderful and hoped she'd get more critical acclaim from that role than she did. I can't remember how long the show lasted but I remember her.
- RIP, Gunny...
- Beverly Archer is alive and well. I should know. I am in Italy at the moment, home on Monday. Not sure how I can stop this rumor. Any ideas?
Beverly Archer
Beverely%20Archer
- Incorrect. Beverly is alive and well.
- No she died on October. 1, 2012, there are several reports on the interwebs.
- Hmmm, interesting...Wiki has been edited to remove a death date for Beverly and it was there a few days ago.
What the hell is going on?
- imdb and Broadway World both say she's dead. Also Sitcom World or something.
- Sitcoms online is the only news story that comes up when one googles this...
- She also starred in We've Got Each, two of the ugliest people alive.
She did a great job going from pathetic Iola to tough and strong Sgt Gunney.
I wonder if she and Alex Karras were having the anal when they both died.
BTW it's MAMA's Family not MOMMA nor MAMMA nor anything else
- It would be nice to get all of Mama's Family on DVD
- I think this might be a hoax because at a bare minimum Entertainment Tonight would have reported on her death. Entertainment Tonight loves it when anyone within the entertainment industry passes because it gives whoever is reporting about it a moment to actually feign being serious about something.
- Here's her website. She makes (or made) cute little clay animals. One thing wrong in the obit is that it states she lived in Santa Monica since 2001, while Bev herself says she's lived in Pasadena since 1975.
http://beverlyarcher.net/?page_id=34
- Wonderful comedienne. She was also the only reason I ever watched "Major Dad".
- Okay, now I'm starting to think it's a hoax. Her clay figures are quite good, not my type of thing, but. . . she was/is married to a man.
- Exactly, R60.
R46
- If this is a hoax, she was a good target -- known, but not too well and only by those who watched TV long ago.
- Did Bev live near the Walkers? I wonder if she and Norah ever sat down over wine or coffee. Did she tut tut over the weekly meltdowns or the near hysteria followed by family dinners and all is well with the world?
Enquiring minds want(ed) to know!
SFPT
- She was in the movie version of "Beverly Hillbillies", perhaps as a consolation prize since she would have been so much better than Lily Tomlin as Miss Hathaway.
- R60 here.
I e mailed her official web site and she is either not dead or is now a zombie
Here is a cut and past from the response she made when I e mailed her official web site...
Thanks but I am alive and well.

...If I'm lying, I'm dying! Anyone else can e mail her as well.
- Just emailed her, I'll let you know if I receive a response. Wonder who started this? Maybe she should return to acting and do a guest spot on "Modern Family."
- I'll email Alan Kayser to see if this is true. Anything else you ladies want me to ask him?
- I so hope she's still alive. I loved her as Alva Bricker on Major Dad.
- She answered my email already. She said "Yes I am aware of the death hoax. I'll deal with it when I return from Italy." WOW!
- R70 if you're able to correspond with A. Kayser, please don't use the opportunity to discuss Iola Boylen. Ask him if there are nude pics of him online that we can access.

-
She answered my email already. She said "Yes I am aware of the death hoax. I'll deal with it when I return from Italy." WOW!
So was that her at R52? Or an e-mail cut-and-paste?
- r73, I just emailed him to see if the story is true. If he responds, I'll get the conversation going about nude pix.
r70
- R34:
" She was previously married to Robert Bernard from 1976 until her death."
MARY!
- DOUBLE MARY!
- Hope Beverly is alive and well and living it up in Italy!
- She was freeze dried like her cat Midnight
- Please let r52 really be Iola Lucille Boykin.
- That's Boylan, to you, dear.
- I'm starting to think r52 really is Beverly.
- Someone said they saw Vicki Lawrence on t.v. recenlty hawking the "Mama's Family" dvd. Maybe this was started by her to drum up interest.
- She did lots of commercials too. I once passed her on Madison and 41st St.
- Hallelujah. She is risen.
- This begs the question - is Bev the Messiah?
Welcome%20Back%2C%20Archer
- She had a store in the Catskills for a while - not sure if she still does (did)?
-
I'll email Alan Kayser to see if this is true. Anything else you ladies want me to ask him?'
Ask him what sort of comments he got about his ass in tight jeans and what he thinks of his own ass.
- So the OP of this thread is the one who started the hoax?
What a jerk.
- No -- Sitcom on line started it
- Gary! Gary Collins! Welcome to the great beyond!
Beverly%20Archer
- The hoax was first posted at a site called inmemoriam.thoughts.com, but it's been removed. Her Wikipedia page is also locked and the death date has been removed.
SitcomsOnline has a thread about confirming the hoax.
http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/showthread.php%3Ft%3D304884
- Lives she still?
- The poor dear, her imdb still has her death listed.
At least Beverly Archer knows that some people liked her work and all, I guess.
inmemoriam.thoughts.com pimped their site off of a death hoax about this lady (they are the root cause of this hoax, btw) and that is not cool at all. I'll give sitcoms online the full on benefit of the doubt because they apologized for having been gullible.
She should try to contact TMZ and maybe Entertainment Tonight about this and try to publicize her ceramics work at the same time. Why not?
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0033639/
- FOOLED YOU SUCKERS
- I thought she was the only good thing about that execrable "Mama's Family." A very funny comic actress.
- Sitcoms Online now has an interview up with Bev where she talks about the death hoax. She looks great!
http://blog.sitcomsonline.com/2012/10/seven-questions-with-beverly-archer-of.html
- A few weeks ago when one clicked on this thread it read "Thread does not exist".
