"We look forward to next steps."
What does this mean in the context of an e-mail regarding a job interview? I sent a thank you note to an interviewer (guy who would be my boss), and he sent this back: "It was great to meet you. We look forward to next steps."

- EEE!
- Prelube!
- Just think of it as vaguely positive.
- Calling your references, background check, credit check, and the like. Steps they probably would not take unless they were interested in moving forward with hiring you.
- I doubt someone would say they look forward to a next step of letting you down, unless they were evil or totally clueless.
- It means you will probably advance to the next round.
- Meaningless corporate-speak. Don't get excited; it'll only exacerbate your disappointment.
- It could mean that they're looking forward to your walking away, but in fact it DOES mean that they're actively considering you. No guarantee, but it's positive. R7 is either having a bad day or is just a bitch.
- OP here. I should also say that I already work for the company.

- He acknowledged your thank you and wanted you to know that they weren't finished evaluating the successful candidates.
That's all.
- r12 - huh?
