Tuesday, October 9, 2012 13:34 EDT A senior adviser to Mitt Romney on Monday assured a group of LGBT conservatives that the Republican presidential nominee would be successful at winning the White House in November. Speaking at GOProud’s “Unity” event, Bay Buchanan avoided any mention of LGBT issues but warned the audience that some of Romney’s decisions “are going to offend you.” “I wanted to let you know how much the governor appreciates all the work you have done for him and your support of his efforts,” Buchanan said. “And to let you know that we are going to win this. We are going to win this.” She pointed to last week’s debate performance against President Barack Obama as evidence that Romney could make a strong case for turning the country around. “It is what we need at this time: a courageous, tough leader, who is willing to take this responsibility on and make those tough decisions,” Buchanan explained. “Which I’m going to tell you now, some are going to offend me, some are going to offend you and some are going to offend the left. But the job has to get done.” “Just expect the next four weeks, don’t think it’s going to be easy, and I can’t tell you we’re not going to make any mistakes. Gov. Romney is as human as the next guy. Paul Ryan, I’m not expecting him to make any mistakes.” According to the Washington Blade, GOProud executive director Jimmy LaSalvia had introduced Buchanan and reminded the audience that his organization had been the only national LGBT group to endorse the Republican nominee because “on issue after issue, a Romney administration would be better for gay Americans, indeed all Americans.” Romney has signed a pledge from the anti-LGBT group National Organization for Marriage vowing to back a constitutional amendment outlawing same sex marriage, he opposes national adoption rights for LGBT couples and has spoken against the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA).
