LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A conservative watchdog group is calling for network executives to drop plans for a new series from executive producer Jennifer Lopez about a multi-ethnic family headed by a lesbian couple. One Million Moms (OMM) wants ABC Family to reconsider its August order of a pilot episode of “The Fosters”, an hour-long comedy-drama starring Teri Polo of “The West Wing” and Sherri Saum of “Rescue Me”. The group says the show – which is produced by Lopez’s Nuyorican Films and centers on two women raising a family of biological and adopted children – is “attempting to redefine marriage and family.” “Hollywood is continuing to push an agenda that homosexuality is acceptable when scripture states clearly it is a sin,” OMM said on its website. “As Christians, the Bible also says that we must speak up against sin. If we remain silent then we are guilty of sin also.” An online petition called on supporters to email ABC and Disney executives in order to “strongly encourage [them] to drop all plans to air the program.” Members of the group recently backed a campaign opposing a new Skittles ad in which a teenage girl whose roommate walks in on her making out with a Walrus. The 25-year-old nonprofit was also referenced in a recent episode of NBC’s “The New Normal” after OMM called for advertisers to boycott the show for its effort “to subject families to the decay of morals and values, and the sanctity of marriage in attempting to redefine marriage.” ABC Family has so far declined comment on the campaign.
