"... 2012 is different. For the first time, no spectrum of dreary grays. The colors are black and white. At last, gay voters have a choice, not an echo.
President Obama started slow on gay rights. He opposed marriage equality, dragged his feet on the military-service ban, and let the Justice Department file a brief defending DOMA that could have been written by his predecessor. But then he made up for lost time. He went out on a limb jurisprudentially by abandoning his legal defense of DOMA. He and the Democratic Congress got the military ban repealed. He used executive authority to provide some benefits for same-sex partners of federal workers. Above all, he came out this year in support of gay marriage — and, in its platform, his party did the same."
Perhaps this is because gay voters have not had a choice between rain and shine. Their choice has been between rain and drizzle. The Republican candidate preferred not to talk about gay issues (ugh! nasty!) and could be counted on, if the issue came up, to take the wrong side. The Democratic candidate, on the other hand, preferred not to talk about gay issues (eek! dangerous!) and could be counted on, if the issue came up, to chicken out and act like a Republican.
R1, you're a fucking idiot AND a moron to boot
R1 is a fucking nimrod
r2. R1 is me, the op, posting verbatim from the linked article.
R1 was quoting a very relevant section of the article.
I don't normally agree with people voting based on single issues but as a gay man the choice is strikingly clear. One party accepts us (more or less) while the other one rejects us (more or less). Voting GOP in 2012 is a vote for your own oppression.
The funniest thing is that, by and large, the same holds true for MOST americans (not just gays). Unless you're part of the 1%, the GOP is only going to sell YOUR best interests down the river. Creation "science", here we come!
Oh, and R2? Fuck off!
Go proud; what say you?!
speaking of nimrods....
Thanks for the article!
It's pretty easy to understand why some gays are republicans. They are the haters. They hate poor people, hate middle income taxpayers, hate peace, hate the elderly and hate anybody who wants them to pay their fair share of taxes for the good of the country.
