I agree, R9. They are both amazingly beautiful women. I don't want or expect an impersonation in this kind of role. Mimicking a person's looks and gestures instead of getting at the essence is shallow and never works. I'm looking forward to the movie.

There has already been a Grace Kelly biopic, on the level of the ones on Audrey Hepburn, Jackie O, Liz & Dick etc - who likes or watches these fabrications? stay at home fraus maybe? I think It was Cheryl Ladd the last time round - is this going to be any better? and Nicole is too old and bland and looks nothing like Kelly.
Cheryl Ladd was a godawful Grace Kelly, but more age-appropriate than Nicole. Grace was a great beauty, Nicole, while attractive and glam, is NOT. I so would have picked an unknown actress in her late 20s/early 30s with a strong resemblance to Grace. This is as bad as Meryl Streep portraying Julia Child.

January Jones looks more like Grace Kelly in my opinion. If she could manage a Brahmin accent she might be more believable in the role. I couldn't watch Hemingway and Gelhorn because of Kidman. The last time I thought Kidman was attractive was in the early nineties. Batman and To Die For. Beautiful eyes, alabaster skin and great hair. She looked so much better as a redhead.

Grace Kelly is overrated, in my opinion. She's pretty but also boring. She was blond, blue eyed and had great teeth. But what else can you say about her? There's nothing interesting about her face. If she hadn't married that prince she would have been long forgotten. Also, I don't think that's from the movie. I saw it in a recent magazine photo shoot she did.

I agree January Jones looks more like Grace Kelly; but January Jones cannot act at all and would be dreadful in the part. At least Nicole Kidman can act. The perfect casting would have been Naomi Watts--she both looks like Kelly and is a superb actor.
What's this movie going to be about? The marriage, or the early years in Monaco (her growing realization Rainier and the court were never going to let her act again, as she had assumed she could eventually when she married him, and that he was having affairs right and left), or the later years (the boozing, the reconcilation with Rainier, the fights with Caroline over her romantic partners)?
They could do a thing where January Jones mimes the part and Nicole voices it, like in the musicals.

It's not about her entire life, R37. I think it takes place in the early 60s and it's about some behind the scenes politics at Monaco. January Jones has kind of a coarse face and doesn't resemble Kelly as much as people say she does.

January Jones does look more like Grace Kelly than Nicole Kidman, but like others have said she can't act. The only reason she is any good on Mad Men is because she IS Betty Draper, I don't think there's much acting going on there with her and that part.

I've met Nicole Kidman. This was a while ago, maybe 2001 or 2002. I have never found her remotely interesting or attractive on film. In real life she was stunning. I couldn't even believe it. I've met many celebrities and I can't think of one who looked so much better in real life.

I guess my point was that saying Kidman isn't attractive is sort of ridiculous. Has she fucked up her looks? Sure. Has she aged out of them? Perhaps. But she's stunning, or was.

Kidman is lovely, and a wonderful actress. I think she could have played successfully some of the great women's roles of the 1940s. Imagine Kidman instead of Kate Winslet in "Mildred Pierce."
