The world of boxing now has its first openly gay professional fighter who has come out whilst his career is still active.
Puerto Rican featherweight Orlando Cruz has said that he is indeed a gay man.
The 31-year-old released a statement to the media saying:
“I’ve been fighting for more than 24 years and as I continue my ascendant career, I want to be true to myself.
“I want to try to be the best role model I can be for kids who might look into boxing as a sport and a professional career.
“I have and will always be a proud Puerto Rican. I have always been and always will be a proud gay man.”
Cruz has been boxing since he was seven and has won seven national titles and seven international gold medals.
He turned pro shortly after the Sydney Olympic Games and won his first professional fight on 15 December 2000 against Alfredo Valdez.
He will be taking on Jorge Pazos in the ring in Florida on 19 October.
According to BoxRec, Cruz is currently the No. 2 ranked featherweight in the United States and will be hoping to defend his WBO Latino featherweight title.
Cruz now joins a growing list of gay professional sports starts such as retired rugby player Gareth Thomas, Swedish footballer Anton Hysen, England cricketer Steven Davies and gold medal Olympic equestrian star Carl Hester.
[quote](i.e. [childish epithet posted by a bigoted tool] gay man).
Uh, no. Maricon = faggot.
[quote]Looks like he plucks his eyebrows.
Nearly every young man in PR does, gay or straight.
Gay people won't get gay rights until we start treating one another equally. This guy CAME OUT early in his life, in the most macho sport there is an extremely macho country and 90% of these posts are something you'd see on Free Republic. Disgusting.
"He looks REALLY gay."
This is what self loathing looks like.
Amen r32. This man is brave and should be celebrated. I guess a significant segment of the DL crowd is also going to use an occasion like this to play out their deep self-loathing issues.

Exactly. This reinforces why I massively roll my eyes when (primarily) white gay men play the gay card and whine about homophobia, the gay marriage movement, etc, etc, etc. It's the pot calling the kettle repeatedly. It's petty, trite, boring, and predictable, and impacts being sympathetic, or caring at all, when they emanate so much venom and nastiness.
Meanwhile, another Puerto Rican ex-champion pro boxer, Hector "Macho" Camacho, was the victim of a drive-by shooting in which he and another guy were hit. The other guy is dead, and Camacho has just been declared brain dead.
Drugs were found in the car and on the other guy,
Camacho was a hottie. Naked pics of him to follow.
"Oh my God. I'm back. I'm home. All the time, it was... We finally really did it ... You Maniacs! You blew it up! Ah, damn you! God damn you all to hell!"
We are switching to the new platform for The DataLounge this weekend. All of our mobile users have been using it for over a week and all first time users have been using it for about a month - which adds up to well over one million users. So we're ready to end this phase of the testing and move everybody to the new site. (more)
And yes, we've changed the look and some of how it operates.
Yes, we know you just *hate* it in well in advance.
Yes, we know we suck.
Yes, we are the biggest suckers that ever sucked.
But it was time for a change and with the huge shift to mobile it was long overdue. We've taken this opportunity not only to update the look but also make major changes under the hood (or "bonnet" if you're either British or pretentious or both). And we have to prepare for 2016 - a presidential election year where we can normally expect to see a 60% jump in traffic (yes, we've seen 5 presidential elections so far…Christ we're old).
The site has a bunch - nay, plethora - of new features which will make the site more usable: better search, the ability to ignore posters and threads, see link previews, to pick up a thread where you left off, spam and malware filtering and more.
If you want you can go explore and see for yourself, Click here.
And while running the tests we've noticed two interesting reactions to the new system - people are spending more time on the site and more people that come stay around longer and look at more stuff. Both good things. Yay!
Possibly we've not slain all the dragons and there will be issues that come up during the switchover. There's a help button in the lower right hand corner of the page which you can use to send us bug reports.
Please include as much information about the hardware (PC, Mac, Tablet, Phone etc), operating system (Windows, Mac OS, Android, iOS etc) and browser (Chrome, Safari, Opera, Internet Explorer etc) that you are using as possible to help us replicate and fix the problem.
Please note that complaints about colors, fonts, icons and the like are not "bugs" - they are design choices that we've made and we expect one or two cases of world-class bitching. But they won't actually cause headaches, scurvy, heart attacks, Restless Leg Syndrome, Morgellon's Disease or the vapors (but have your smelling salts at hand just in case).
Talking to DataLounge servers. Please wait a moment...
