Big Bang Theory: so is Raj gay?
He sort of has a date with Stuart the comic book store owner.....we'll see...
- I think he's just a mama's boy. They do write him so gay though.
- I don't think he is, he's just painfully shy with women. Is Stuart gay?
- They should make Raj bisexual. I can't think of a bisexual character. The closest you get is Jody from Soap, but that character was written all over the place.
Susan Harris didn't have a clue what gay meant.
- [quote] Is Stuart gay?
In previous episodes Stuart was lusting after Penny BUT tonight they sort of shifted the tone plus the guy who plays Stuart is now a regular and his name comes up in the pre-show credits. We'll see I guess.
r1 I think you are thinking of Howard.
- [quote]I can't think of a bisexual character.
no such thing as male bisexuality
- Bisexual women characters are fairly easy to think of. - Thirteen from House, Inara from Firefly, Callie from Grey's Anatomy (though I hate how theybwrite her)..
- I feel like they've been hinting at it forever, but it's always been a joke -- and Chuck Lorre's shows are not exactly gay-positive environments. But it seems like a fruitful direction to take Raj, though he's showed too much interest in women for it to be believable that he's totally gay.
But with Stuart? Ugh.
- Raj is one of those mythical creatures - gay but doesn't know it. I think the show is going to play with this gay thing awhile. Could be kind of cute, but they will come to their senses just in time.
- I think most of the actors on BBT are gay in real life anyway.
- It's dumb they have 'mos being straight and norms being 'mos
Why do they does that?
Would you have a white guy play Martin Luther King Jr? Or would you have a black man play Chairman Mao? Or would you have Richard Simmons play Bea Arthur?
- [quote]no such thing as male bisexuality
The study which "proved" that has been thoroughly discredited, not that bigots like you care one whit about facts when you can instead deny others' sexual orientation (what the fuck are you doing here anyway?).
- In one episode when Raj told his parents (via Skype) that he had something to tell them, his mother said "You're gay?"
- [quote]Raj is one of those mythical creatures - gay but doesn't know it. I think the show is going to play with this gay thing awhile. Could be kind of cute, but they will come to their senses just in time.
I was nodding in agreement until your last line. Raj has always been the classic closet case.
I think it would be great if he just got with a dude. At least he'd be able to speak without needing drinkies!
I'd like to see a little Howard jealousy though.
- Don't let it wind you up, r11. These little Hitler types that think they wrote the book on sexuality are never worth it. They pop up on every thread.
- R5 = Homophobic, man-hating, late middle-aged, confused frau with no friends and a house full of shitty litter boxes.
- They have more than hinted that Raj is gay and he knows it but is in denial. He even volunteered to have sex with a guy to come up with a solution to one of the guy's problem.
- I've noticed that many foreign guys are feminine, not sexually, but culturally. They are the "other" and identify with women.
Raj is a big fan of frau TV and those icons.
- This will be the last season for 2.5M. I see no hold over from BBT, with major drop-off.
Without CS, it deserves to die.
- I know a guy who seems to be bisexual. He has been married, he now has a longterm boyfriend/partner but he still hits on woman. He's 45, does he just want to breed? I don't get it.
- Then they would have a good representation of Nerds. A pussy hound who is pussy whipped, Howard Wolowitz, the shy insecure desperate straight guy, Leonard Hofstadter, The gay guy, Raj Koothrappali, and the Asexual, Sheldon Cooper.
- I think Raj is delighted by women, especially since he can't talk to them.
- [quote]Susan Harris didn't have a clue what gay meant.
She took things as far as the censors back then would let her and she oftentimes had to do massive re writes for the character of Jody on "Soap."
At least she did not kill the character off early on. She fought the good fight with the censors instead.
The%20Diana%20Canova%20Troll
- Last night Raj's accent was so heavy he was hard to understand, unless he was just talking too fast. Does he embellish it?
- R22, the character of Jodie was a joke, and you can't blame it entirely (or even mostly) on the censors.
- C'mon everyone but knows he's Gay. His parents, Leonard's Mother, Sheldon's Mother have all asked him. He is clearly in love with Howard and last night realized it's time to move on.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x4nO5ltZjWU
- I find Stuart kind of nerdy hot! Wouldn't mind Raj and Stuart hooking up at all.
- [quote]not that bigots like you care one whit about facts when you can instead deny others' sexual orientation (what the fuck are you doing here anyway?).
Because it is a GAY gossip sight.
- [quote]I find Stuart kind of nerdy hot!
me too. Plus he was the first runner up to Jim Parsons for the role of Sheldon so I feel like he deserves a break.
- I thought R5 was joking.
- [quote]Plus he was the first runner up to Jim Parsons for the role of Sheldon so I feel like he deserves a break.
Interesting. This is the first I've heard of this. Jim Parsons is so perfect...PERFECT...as Sheldon that it's hard to imagine anyone else doing this character.
Stuart is cute but he's no Sheldon.
- God, I hope so!
- I could see the Stuart actor as Sheldon in the way Sheldon was originally conceived. If you watch the first few episodes Parsons is a little more social and not quite so in his own world. After a few episodes Parsons seemed to make the role his own and they let him get more and more aspergery.
- Raj is bisexual, and loves sex with women, but has been developed (as a plot device) to be easy-open-romantic-bromantic. He enjoyed the cuddles he's had, enjoyed the romantic Swiss hotel room with Leonard on sharing a small bed, enjoyed the many little intimacies he's had with Howard.... But he likes that puss.
- They are not exactly consistant with their character's sexuality on the show. Amy Farrah Fowler is all over the place fawning over both Sheldon and Penny.
- As Stuart says at the end of the episode -- It could be worse (or something to that effect -- what DID he say, exactly?)
- He said "I could do worse."
- The Stuart/Raj man date is going to be the start of a beautiful bromance Nothing more.. Both he and Stuart like girls. Stuart had a major boner for Penney and even went on a couple of dates with her. With all of Raj's friends involved in relationships he's become the third wheel. He needs another guy nerd to pal around with and Stuart is the new Howard. It's rumored that Raj does get some lovin' this season with Sheldon's new, foxy assistant. A female assistant. Raj is sweet, sensitive, sensual, open minded and non-judgemental. He also likes sex. The total opposite of Sheldon. But he is not gay. I do think the writers like to keep the fans guessing but they are going to remain true to the characters they have created. You will never see AFF and Sheldon getting it on. Ever. And Raj is not gay.
- Stuart is a Howard type.
Hase any omedy marriage endured in sit-com land or should "Bernadette" be afraid?
What the fuck is Penny's last name?
- Whatever, they just need to make Raj more interesting. He's the third wheel and nothing more. They painted him into a corner early with the "can't talk to women" thing. They tried making him gay or think he's gay and that didn't work. Now he's stuck.
The first thing that needs to go is the "can't talk to women" thing. If they want him to be truly straight and he can never talk to women with sober and thus get himself a real girlfriend like Howard then his character will never go anywhere relationship-wise.
As the other characters move on in terms of relationships he will continue to go nowhere.
- Look, the show is about mega-nerds, and it's just not realistic to give them ALL girlfriends. At least, not all at the same time.
I know from nerds
- Are Sheldon and Blossom really considered to be a couple?
- There was a past episode where Stuart took a shower in the guys apartment and comes out with nothing but a towel. I thought he was cute. I think he and Raj will get close, but nothing will happen.
- Sheldon hugged me!
It's a saturnalia miracle!
- [quote]Both he and Stuart like girls. Stuart had a major boner for Penney and even went on a couple of dates with her.
And Penny invited him in for coffee and he ended up going to Sheldon's and hanging out, so much for his major boner. You've never met anyone in closet?
- its really gonna be audacious of Chuck Lorre be if he wanna go there hah
- Gay or straight, he's hot.
- It's a comedy show based on nerds. Of course they all hook up with girls and have hilarity ensues homoerotic encounters and misunderstandings. The gay stuff is just played up for laughs like everything else. It's like gaybaiting, but with punchlines and laughing tracks.
- R43 - Love that line.
Penny looks slimmer this season.
- I let Stuart fuck me. You just know he has a big one.
- I think the Stuart/Raj relationship would be great for exploring something that TV doesn't show much of: sexual activity between straight men when they are unable to find a female to boink. I suppose Stuart and Raj will have to get drunk first like the straight guys usually do before they're willing to knob gobble.
- Stuart looks like a brother of the current Doctor Who companion Rory (Amy's devoted husband).
- How does syndication work -- for the past ear, my station has aired episodes from the first four seasons. Will they soon start adding the fifth?
I can't get CBS anymore, thanks to the digital change over so have missed the most of the first run episodes.
- Raj is not in the closet. There is never any homophobia exhibited by his circle of friends. He could come out to them without fear of being rejected. His problem is not his sexuality or lack of attractiveness. He gets a lot of attention from women. Even Sheldon's knockout sister had the hots for him. He has an extreme case of social akwardness when it comes to interacting with women but I can't remember if it is all women or just the ones he finds sexually attractive. Leonard's mother called it "selective mutism". When the alcohol kicks in he can be obnoxious if he thinks the woman is hot for him. He knows he's a pussy magnet even if he can't do anything about it. If anyone on this show were open to taking a walk on the wild side it would be Howard. Which makes him the second most interesting character on the show. The writers can put him in any outlandish situation and you absolutely believe it could happen to him.
- "Raj is not in the closet. There is never any homophobia exhibited by his circle of friends."
Raj's family is homophobic. Not rabidly so, but they REALLY want him to be straight and produce grandchildren. Growing up with that sort of expectation can really mess with your head, so IMHO if Raj isn't so much closeted as totally in denial.
- [quote] I can't remember if it is all women or just the ones he finds sexually attractive
They've never really addressed that. I've always wondered if he can talk to old woman or ugly girls....
They hardly ever have anyone like that on. He didn't really interact with Leonard and Sheldon's moms but who knows.
- Actually Raj did interact with Leonard's mom. She was the one who kept pointing out the latent homosexual tendencies of Howard and Raj.
- Raj can't talk to Sheldon's or Leonard's moms
- but r56...did he talk to Leonard's mom or just whisper in Howard's ear.....I forget.
- The way they've set it up, he can't talk to any women, except family members, unless he is drunk.
I don't think Raj is gay, but lonely and feeling friendless, and reaching out. Stuart's business has been failing, and he's lonely and reaching out, too. I really thought they would make Sheldon gay, at some point. I L O V E Amy Farrah Fowler, but I kind of wish they'd just get them together already, I'm getting tired of her sad-sack shit with him. (Plus, how come we never discuss the lesbian chemistry between Amy and Penny????)
- Raj's parents suspect him to be gay, but that doesn't stop them from expecting him to marry a nice woman from india and have kids anyway to please them (he can have his secret Brokeback Mountain affairs on the side for all they care).
- Hispanic parents are like that too. Just because you are gay...no reason not to get married.
- [quote]how come we never discuss the lesbian chemistry between Amy and Penny????
Because it's completely one-sided.
- If he's gay then why is he so afraid to talk to girls?
- What R63 said. Raj isn't gay. He is into women.
- because it is a sitcom and they just sort of figure it out as it goes along.
- Have any of you actually watched the show? They have more than hinted he is gay.
Season 4 Episode 19 – The Zarnecki Incursion
A Hacker stole Sheldon's enchanted weapons, vicious Gladiator armour, wand of untainted power, and Gold
Leonard: Why don’t we play this smart? Try a little good goblin, bad goblin.
Priya: Oh, dear Lord.
Howard: Nah, I think we have to be more subtle.
Raj: Okay, I see where this is going. Fine, I’ll have sex with him.
Leonard: That’s not where it was going.
Raj: Good, because I would hate that.
- On today's rerun, he said that if he had a pussy, he could eat free for life.
- [quote]You will never see AFF and Sheldon getting it on.
For some reason, I think if it ever does happen, it probably wouldn't be until the very last episode of the series.
- r37, r63 -- you're just speculating, like the rest of us.
Don't act as though you have the show's bible in your lap, especially as they make it up as they go along!
- I meant r53 is just speculating.
r69
- Raj is the least consistent character in the whole series. So it's not surprising that they are ESPECIALLY making it up as they go along in regards to his character.
He can't talk to women he's a frustrated straight man but he can't talk to women and he hangs around a lot with Howard so perhaps he's gay but he can't talk to women so let's have him have the hots for Bernadette and have sex but not really with Penny but he can't talk to women so we will have him date a lesbian and be metrosexual but he can't talk to women so let's have him flirt with Stuart and yet again leave his character ambiguous.
- Sheldon is written as being asexual. He doesn't understand the basic human need for love or sex. He believes carnal pleasures and romantic entanglements are a waste of time. He aspires to be like his hero Mr. Spock. Unlless she can trick him into adding a Ponfar clause into the relationship agreement he and AFF are never going to do the horizontal mambo. The most you can hope for is a fantasy sequence taking place in Amy's head and the writers are more apt to write a scene like that for AFF and Penney. Still, one wonders if Sheldon ever spanks the monkey.
- [quote]Still, one wonders if Sheldon ever spanks the monkey.
In the pilot Leonard complains that he constantly hears Sheldon jacking off....BUT as the series went on he became more and more asexual.
- Pilots are often not consistent with the rest of the show.
- True r74. Sheldon is quite different in the pilot. Sort of like another Leonard. In some of the early episodes Sheldon even takes an interest and tries to help Leonard with his feelings towards Penny. It is so much better and funnier when they let Sheldon be indifferent.
- You sound like a petulant twelve year old girl, r69. Sorry to ruin your "every fucking tv show has to have a gay character" fantasy. Why don't you try Partners or The New Normal? Cliched gay stereotypes abound. r63 nailed it. Raj might entertain the notion of being with a guy, because in a lot of ways, it would make life easier. r59 makes a good point about Raj and Stuart. The character I wish they would bring back is Zack. I can definately see him switch hitting and I would love to watch! But the character who pings loudest is Kwipke.
r72%2Cr53%2C%20r37....
- I want them to bring back Leslie (Sara Gilbert).
- Raj is the only good looking one of the bunch so you 'mos want him to be gay. But the character is cleary not gay.
- Johnny Galecki nude!!
http://www.omgblog.com/2007/01/omg_hes_naked_johnny_galecki.php
- Now r76, et al, is making it up, too.
- Off topic, but the "weightless" effects this season in the space station are damn good.
- [quote]But the character is cleary not gay.
As clear as frosted glass.
- No, it's pretty clear Raj is not gay.
He can speak fine in front of hot men. It's hot women that tie his tongue. He wants to get married to a women.
- Gay or straight, he's hot. Even in the horrible clothes.
- R81,
I agree. I did an online search to find out if they were filmed on the "Vomit Comet" in actual weightlessness......
They were not. The actors are supported from below by a very narrow platform.
Simon H. is doing a phenomenal job.....even the smallest facial gestures seem weightless.
Amazing.
- They're casually dating, and overcompensating with exaggerated talk abouit hot girls.
- [quote]He can speak fine in front of hot men. It's hot women that tie his tongue.
His tongue is tied because he is expected to talk to women and he actually doesn't want to.
He not attracted to them and has to get drunk. Clearly a closet case.
- Raj is the hottest male on that sitcom. He's hindu-gay.
- Simon is the best physical actor on the show. He's both graceful and loose.
- I have trouble talking to young women. They sometimes just seem so desperate for validation. (those eyes gaping at you with the "I'm ok aren't I" stare...)
- Raj attractive? He's fat. His head has a weird shape. And he'd be soft and doughy even if he lost weight. Yuck. As for being gay, the "cleary" asshole at R78 obviously is too thick-headed (smells like curry) to reflect that the show has played with a bi subtext for Raj from the start, with the underlying character story that he is romantic, sensitive, goosey, open to new experiences, silly and rather free-spirited.
Sure, he fucks women even when he's sober and can't talk with them (the Halloween party). But he also just wants intimacy anywhere he can get it.
Oh - sorry, ass. Apparently you think "'mos" are all about dicks up the ass and nothing else. Nice having your type here on a gay web site.
- Why is R91 babbling away like a moron?
Get out of the basement.
- I'd like to see them all go gay, celibate or something/anything else. The sex scenes with the two in relationships are revolting. I dread the inevitable Sheldon deflowering.
- I've been watching Season Five on DVD. I didn't realize how much they were trying to back away from the whole "Raj might be gay" concept" as if that would be the most horrible thing for him to be. They even have him date a lesbian to show just how "not gay" he is. (And that's convincing. Not.)
They should just dump the character of Raj. They've backed him into a corner, a dull, dreary, "metrosexual," faggy corner.
It's not "he's gay" or "he's not gay." The worst thing about Raj: he's boring.
- Stale pastry is hollow succor, to a man who is bereft of ostrich.
- if you have ever been to india, many indian men hold hands and are quite (how can i say this) male friendly, but still straight :/ basically i think the script portrays his culture well.
http://www.facebook.com/Churchofshelly
Lee
- The first few minutes of the latest episode has nothing but gay double entrendres coming out of Raj's mouth.
- Yes and they all felt played out.
- R98, they've painted Raj's character into a corner and it will be impossible to get him out of there. They need to make the "he can't talk to women" subplot go away. Quickly. Maybe Sheldon's Meemaw can show up,have sex with him and cure him of what ails him so he can become a real character.
- Lat night was probably the funniest show this season.
"Quick give me your rod!"
"We need to get Raj laid!"
"Who is Forever 63 now?"
- Did anyone watch last night? The Raj is gay jokes were getting obnoxious.
- The girlfriends are ruining the show for me. At first I liked Bernadette, but now she's just irritating. I thought, when Amy first showed up, she was supposed to be female version of Sheldon and that would have been great, but two of them as a couple just doesn't work for me. Sheldon is asexual. And in the latest episode I thought that Amy and Raj could be an interesting couple.
- Last night was the first time I had seen a current episode in a long time (I tend to catch it more in the syndicated reruns). It wasn't horrible, but it seems to have run its course. A lot of the jokes seemed forced or lazy and cheap (esp. the gay Raj jokes).
Plus the actors are starting to look older, so their immaturity and self-absorbness is starting to come off as sad rather than amusing. Playing the man-child can work when you are in your twenties, but it can be cring-inducing once the actor is approacing or crossing 40.
I wasn't sure if the character of Amy was a good idea, but I think she might have been the funniest last night. She has gone from being just a female version of Sheldon to being her own character. If they are going to pair her with someone, I kind of would like it to be someone other than Sheldon. She is the least funny in her scenes with him.
- But R103, Howard is married and, at some point, there will be a child. Penny and Leonard are moving forward and could eventually be a real couple (instead of just playing a couple on and off). Even Sheldon is changing because of his (albeit) strange relationship with Amy. Only Raj is left to be truly a man-child - and his character is stuck there.
- Glad someone started this thread.
The Raj/Stewart possible gay storyline seemed to just disappear after that one episode.
- True R104 - I probably have not seen enough of the more recent episodes to judge whether the characters are stuck in a rut or not. Since last night focused on Raj it might not have been a good example of whether the characters have aged or not. From just that episode, it seemed to me the show had run its course, but it could have just been a weak episode.
- No, they wouldn't get a white man to play martin Luther king, or any of the other examples you stated, because white looks different to black. These people are actors, ie paid to act different to who they are. Nice people act like murderers, sane people act as a crazy person etc etc. So its natural that on occasion a gay actor will be hired to play someone straight and vice versa. I can't believe you needed this explaining to you. Idiot.
