I never wash my car

I wish I could. But it costs over $10 for a good one and I'm on a super tight budget thanks to a shit job. My landlord pays the water bill and I don't want to take advantage of that benefit (I'm already watering my plants because of this damned drought).

I have a beige car that never appears to be dirty and live in a city that rains enough that I'll usually be driving in the rain a few times a month. I do clean the interior, but will not go for a carwash. I think it gets a complimentary wash when I have it serviced, which is extremely rare.

It is a hygiene thing.

Live in Ohio and we get a shitload of snow. Usually wash my car 3 or 4 times a year from Dec thru April. Have to get the salt off. Other than that, never wash it. I pull it out of the garage when it's going to rain, and that works fine for me.

I live rural where the tractors churn up the dust. I have to wash my car weekly, but I do it myself with a powerhose. I don't have to use soap, the waterblast is powerful enough but sometimes I do so I can get all suds up myself.

One of my neighbors who is really into hiking and taking her car into the muddy dusty outdoors far from the city never washed hers, and people would write "WASH ME" on the back window. She wrote "NO I LIKE 2 B DIRTY" beneath that, which is fair I guess. But then after that, someone wrote "FART" and "DINGLEBERRIES" on the remaining dusty parts--only after that, the car got washed!

i have off street parking (assigned) under a tree that produces some sort of black berries, that birds love, and that gives them instant runs. i have to wash my car. it cost less than $3 with the diy car wash.

Well with some GM cars, washing could cause a mechanical failure.

Not to mention, R8, the loss of paint.

I park outside & it seldom rains here, so the car does become covered with dust & pollen.

But I only get it washed when I find some charity-type group like a school raising money for the band, etc. -- it's got to be a cause I'm willing to support (no churches, unless they're raising money for something like a food bank).

A couple of times, I've had it done by a group raising money for a poor family that can't afford a funeral, but I want to be sure it's legit (like reading about the death in the newspaper).

$10 is the most I've been asked to donate -- I'm too lazy to do it myself & I can afford to contribute that much to charity a few times per year.

I drive through the car wash after getting my gas on occasion. Otherwise, I let the rain do its thing. And I live in San Diego, so it doesn't rain much except in the winter.

Never. I will wash it and detail it when I sell it. Dust, dirt protectects it from the elements. You may laugh but I have done this on my last 3 cars and it works. Dust is a great UV protector inside on the dash. I keep it clean of trash etc but never wash it.

If you don't wash it, it's going to start rusting a lot sooner than if you don't. Especially in the winter, when all of that salt ends up on your car, you really can't just rely on the rain.

Here in England they have guys who wash it while you shop in the supermarket and do the inside.

I like a clean, vacuumed car, personally.

In many states and cities in the US there is no spreading of salt in winter because there are no regular snow storms. Take my own city, Portland, OR. I don't think we've had salt spread on the roads in eight years.

Don't you want to just "be" in a clean, detailed car. After all, cars aren't cheap. We insure them etc, so why not keep it clean.

I washed my car by hand this weekend AND polished it. So fucking tiresome and boring. It looks nice, but honestly, I sometimes wonder if waxing/polishing is overrated. The polish made the car feel slick, but I honestly don't know if it shines any better.

When I was into drankin', I'd pull into on of those self-service washes at least once a week.

I'd start sipping whiskey from a sports bottle while vacuuming the interior.

When it was time to wash, I'd squirt the exterior with a random assortment of different fluids.

Rain is nature's car wash. I used to go in the Bay Area where they did inside and out, but here in Massachusetts I can only find outside only. Fuck that.

Just do it on the driveway with a bucket of soapy water, a sponge and a hose for rinsing.

I’m an Uber driver who drives a Mercedes. I wash the car 3-4 times a month lately. When I lived in Portland, I paid $40 a month for unlimited washes and I washed it more often. Now that I’m in NYC, unlimited washes is $85 a month so I don’t do that.

When I lived in Weho, would wash it every week at the carwash by the bars. It's a pretty car culture. I remember noticing spots the second they showed up.

Live in SF now, as soon as the fog rolls in at night to get a fine layer of micro spots. Don't even notice them anymore.

Will run the car through an automated wash 2-3 months still though. I like taking road trips on weekends with the windows clean and clear (Sonoma County looks so much prettier that way).

Have to keep it washed in the winter -- salt! But the last time I got in a hurry and forgot to crack the hood and put the maintenance charger back on the battery. Damn thing was frozen shut for months; somehow my battery survived.

I wish I could get away with never washing it. But I live in a dry, dusty part of California, where it doesn't rain for 8 months in a row and everything gets covered in dust. I HAVE to clean the windows as a safety thing, if I left them dust up I'd be a hazard in traffic.

And the rest of the car gets so dusty that it discolors your clothes if you brush on it. So I wash it maybe 3 times a year.

I bought my current truck when I wrecked my old Nissan truck with 175K miles on it. I was between jobs, so I bought another Nissan truck with 102K miles on it for $5000. Six years later, it's still running great, after towing many U-Haul trailers and using it to move five times (two times > 1000 miles). I believe I got my $5,000 worth.

It's gray and I have never washed it. I've beaten it up a little bit trucking things around (pun intended), but I always heard, "If your truck's not beat-up, you ain't using it right."

Where I live, it rains every day in the summer, so there's no point in washing it. And it never shows the dirt.

I don't. I have a bird feeder and at the height of summer when there's a million birds flying back and forth to their nests my car gets bird shit on it. My husband washes the shit off my car when he washes his car.
