• I think the main reason why so many of these new songs are so mediocre to just plan bad is people don't write music anymore. They write lyrics and then add music. If you want to see this, see how bad the music really is today, redo the song in a language you don't understand and you still hear how bad the actual music behind the lyrics is, including most of the songs listed on this thread, of which I have listen to many. Song writers today have become street poets with sonic noise playing in the background.

• I'm surprised more gay men don't listen to John, his work is so brave in terms of being sexuality. I went to one of his concerts when Queen of Denmark came out and the majority of audience were straight couples. Good in a way, but sad too. • As a kid of the 80's, the first pup music that caught my attention was the straight up synth-pop of the time. My tastes are broader now, but I'm happy that there are still groups that make similar styled synthesizer driven music. It's not stuff that gets airplay on American radio, but there are many bands out there. One of the groups that I've liked pretty consistently is Ladytron. The attached is a record that could have been spinning on my turntable (yup) in 1985. "Runaway" is from Ladytron's 2008 album.
