James Franco is doing another "Homo-Sex-Art-Film". Just how desperate is he to come out of the closet?
After delving into the world of erotic gay cinema with his film school short adaptation of Anthony Hecht's "Feast Of Stephen," which portrayed one man's viewing of a pick-up basketball game in New York, all around multi-hyphenate James Franco has now set up a teaming with filmmaker Travis Mathews (who wrote/produced/directed "I Want Your Love") for what's being described as a "homo-sex-art-film" that's sure raise a few eyebrows.
"Last week I got an email from James Franco's agent asking if I'd be interested in collaborating with him on a homo-sex-art-film," Mathews wrote on his website. "A day later we were on the phone and a week later we're in pre-production! We'll be shooting at the end of July, I'll be editing in August, and in September it's going to play in a show in NYC. We're staying pretty mumsy on the specifics for now, but I can tell you that it's going to ruffle some feathers. Stay tuned!"
As Mathews notes, they're keeping quiet on what the film will actually entail but the fact that it's due to unveil at "a show in NYC" suggests it's something more in line with the art world than the film world, right? Still, it's fascinating to track all the different paths Franco takes, particularly with an eye on his various directorial and producing efforts, which include his adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's "Child Of God" (slated to arrive next year), William Faulkner's "As I Lay Dying" or his anthology films based on works by C.K. Williams and Stephen Dobyns.
Oh, and if you're wondering about how artsy and NSFW Franco (and Mathews) may go, you can check out the aforementioned "Feast Of Stephen" short below.
For God's sake, just come out of the closet already.
I have no idea if Franco is gay, but he's an interesting man for whom I have great affection. He risks everything to do the films he makes. The guy is a street saint in my opinion. I worry some of the creatures he includes in his films might in real life hurt him. He's only making modest returns if any on these revealing films, the guy is pure gold at his core.
[quote]He risks everything to do the films he makes.
First of all: Mary!
Second: "risks everything"? Not even close.
What a bitter, negative cretin you are, r3.
I'll bet he sucks cock in this one - a real one, not prosthetic.
He is a humorless, pompous ass.
His "performance" as Oscar host is prime evidence; his humorless attitude and treatment of straight porn star James Deen when he approached him is another example.
Zach Braff was much nicer to Deen, and even posed for a pic with him when Deen approached him.
James Franco has talked about sexual flexibility and hinted being bisexual in several interviews, I don't get whats the big secret. Dude obviously considers himself bi even though he doesn't want to make that public pronouncement.
Anyway, he can be humorless and pretentious sometime but he has real passion for queer culture and isn't afraid to publicly embrace that. That is a good thing that many actors with his stature would not be okay with.
[quote]Zach Braff was much nicer to Deen, and even posed for a pic with him when Deen approached him.
Aren't they both Jewish boys?
I'd be willing to die by strangulation from his ankles around my neck. I love him that much, when I'm horny.
And what a gullible, deluded dumbass you are, r2/r4.
James Franco is 34.
He can only avoid questions about his personal life for so much longer.
Seems like the magic age is 45 nowadays.
Nowadays is a native amer-rican word for, currently.
Personally, I'd prefer to see Dave Franco fucking himself.
Pfft, pretentious much? Isn't he a bit old to be using the whole queer counter-culture schtick to boost his artistic cred? Yawnz.
Dave seems just as fascinated with gay sexuality as his bro is. He also did that very gay FOD vide with Christopher what's his name. Mintz-Plasse or whatever.
True, R15. Both Franco brothers like getting very graphic.
Hello Homosexuals of Datalounge!
This is art, not real life! So it's an expression of a vision, a look at a fraction of society in a certain time period. So please do not read too much into this.
Also, does anyone know how I can contact Dawson?
Using the queer counter culture schtick to boost his cred, R14? You twat, he is GAY. It's what he's obsessed with BECAUSE HE'S GAY.
This doesn't make him any less pretentious, naturally. But surely you're not under the impression that he's actually straight, right?
Well, R18, since he says he's straight and not gay, we don't know that yet.
r16,They are very graphic..the bros even post a pic of James on top of Dave while he is sleeping...
James posted on his tumblr and it's kinda Idk..hmm
Well, I remember reading interviews where he has said he isn't gay, R22, so he sure ain't out yet.
R23, he definitely keeps his answers to questions about sexuality intentionally ambiguous. I think it's a mix of artsy mindfuckery and glass closet dwelling.
I wonder if Robert Pattinson does that too, R24?
"I thought you were going to ask me if I was gay, and I wouldn't know how to answer that".
Here's what he said back in 2010:
[quote]James Franco Sets Record Straight – He's Not Gay
James Franco is doing some profiling, on himself. For the record, he's not gay – or bisexual, or high.
"Everyone thinks I'm a stoner, and some people think I'm gay because I've played these gay roles," the actor, 32, tells the Advocate magazine in its October issue. "That's what people think, but it's not true. I don't smoke pot. I'm not gay. But on another level, there's something in me that is able to play roles like that in a way that's convincing."
Franco is again playing a gay role onscreen, as Beat poet Allen Ginsberg in Howl, opening Sept. 24. Previously, he portrayed the lover of Harvey Milk (Sean Penn) in 2008's Milk and a swimmer who hooks up with an older man
He also said in that same interview that if he were gay, he wouldn't come out, so take what he says about not being gay with a grain of salt.
[quote]He also said in that same interview that if he were gay, he wouldn't come out
Wasn't he going to do that sex movie at one time with Lohan? Wonder what happened?
I hope this happens. Full frontal nudity and real gay sex acts sound too good to be true but we'll see. He gets my support. My right hand will be waiting...
r29, The movie is called 'Lovelace' and Lohan was replaced with Amanda Seyfried. It comes out this fall. Supposedly, Franco and Seyfried are now "dating".
Franco is intriguing and what he has allowed revealed has my attention and affection. I totally agree with his statement about not coming out if he were gay. Being gay in Hollywood is a limiting factor for work. It's just one more pigeon hole for others to stick you in. Better to be suspect by both sides.
Another win for Frank Ocean. Show this muthafukas how it should be done.
R25, Robert Pattinson is less measured about it. James Franco has a very constructed ambiguity to his answers. Pattinson is ambiguous but is more all over the map, it's less clear how serious he is and sometimes he comes across spontaneous and sometimes not and he contradicts himself.
That vile little piece shown at the link demonstrates how backward and behind-the-times these fools are. Such silly, trite and worn-out posturing feels like a closet-eyed view of transgressive sexual fantasy. Oh, yeah, baby. Beat me up and smear me with dog shit. That's what we queer boys want.
Asses. They need to go get fucked. Literally and hard.
[quote]“It’s funny because the way that kind of stuff is talked about on blogs is so black-and-white,” Franco says. “It’s all cut-and-dry identity politics. ‘Is he straight or is he gay?’ Or, ‘This is your third gay movie — come out already!’ And all based on, gay or straight, based on the idea that your object of affection decides your sexuality.”
This sounds like such a prototypical bisexual comment to me.
I don't know how Dave feels, but James seems like he'd love to molest his little brother, based on that picture of them.
So is Franco going to follow in Michael Fassbender's footsteps and show his cock then?
Franco jerk-off tape leaks...see link:
Franco, Tobey McGuire and Kirsten Dunst made those Spiderman movies so very gay.
I am not gay. I just like to be involved with gay projects from an artistic point of view.
Franco admitted a year or two ago that he made a sex tape 'with a girlfriend' when he was younger but said he destroyed it.
I haven't heard of a new one.
Here is the link below, R41.
James Franco must have slipped his little brother a roofie!
Well, congrats to James! He's moved up to House Formerly Owned By Costumer.
As if you and your foreclosed on bankrupt parents should talk, Jake G. @ r49
JF had his 15 minutes and he blew it.
And so did Jake.
Neither of them is Box Office. God, actor boys are such A-holes sometimes.
PS: Come see me in LES MIZ, gays! I sing and act and die and I promise you, I am Major Box Office. I was in the last BATMAN, for Chrissake.
as if Ms. Hathaway didn't know what the Italian fiancee was up to.....
Read the Realestalker's take on the new house. Outs him and his man friend.
If only his movies were any good, or featured hot dudes. His stuff is unwatchable.
Oh god, are they STILL together?
Gosh! There are people in porn who will take thousands of cocks and still say they're tottally straight. JF is not the worst closet case.
I bet his hole smells like a sandy beach, incense and the pungent staleness of a movie house. Mmmm.
$775,000 is it a starter home? oh my....
[quote]$775,000 is it a starter home? oh my....
I think he's kind of manic. I worry about him.
How old is he? Why does he need an expensive home that he usually doesn't even live it? That's just stupid.
James Franco is gay? I just think he is just desperate to be a success. Making a gay film or two really could increase his popularity.
James is kind of a likeable hipster douche. He's courting the gay arts circles to get the credible actor/artist reputation. He also might very well be gay or at least bi.
R63 Maybe. Greed and lust lead to many roads and by-ways anyway...
James Franco has denied being gay, but he never really claimed to be straight and has made implications about being bi, just like his hero James Dean.
I would assume he actually is bi.
I wrote something in the thread ''Bisexuality isn't real''. I'm the last reply (R98).
What do you believe of bisexuality R65...?
[quote]James Franco has denied being gay, but he never really claimed to be straight and has made implications about being bi
Like Richard Chamberlain, he'll write a book in his old age and admit he tried to be bi but he just stayed gay.
[quote]Making a gay film or two really could increase his popularity.
How far beyound two is he now? Isn't he up to five?
[quote]What do you believe of bisexuality [R65]...?
I think sexuality doesn't have to be black or white and of course a guy can be bisexual to varying degrees and people sound like prejudice idiots when they try to tell someone their sexuality isn't "real".
Oops! that's beyond
The intensity of the emotional part defines our sexuality. One is more intense with men or more intense with women...of course everyone can have experiences with both sexes, it's not that difficult when you need desperately to be loved.
James Franco likes to have his nipples played with as you suck on his 7 inch cock.
I'm going to keep at it until it comes out right! THAT's the kind of artist I am!"
