Stay tuned - will announce in 20 minutes, I'm on pins and needles
I hope they send that fucker away for life plus some. Creep. His wife should be locked up with him for being either stupid, living in denial or aiding and abetting. Gross people.
The jury is coming in with a verdict at this hour on a Friday?
Why not, R2? They probably want to go home for the weekend.
Legal analyst Lisa Bloom is on CNN's Piers Morgan and they are discussing it LIVE.
I wonder how it is done? I mean do they (the jury) take a vote right away and if everyone comes back with a guilty on a certain charge--then why debate that charge? So there may have only been a few charges they needed to discuss.
It better not be anything except "Guilty on all counts." He's a sick fuck who honestly deserves the same fate as Joe Paterno.
Verdict will be guilty or not. If guilty, sentencing will be at a later date.
I'm waiting with baited breath!
The analysts THINK it will be guilty because of the speed with which it has happened, but as always, there is no way to know.
The Jury deliberated for 20 hours according to CNN.
Anderson Cooper now on.
Marcia Clark predicted on Anderson Cooper last night that it would be a guilty verdict.
Mark Geragos predicted it would be a hung jury. Looks like Marcia may be right.
I told you there would be a verdict today.
All the chi-mo apologists can expect guilty across the board.
Suck it, you sick fucks.
It would be almost impossible for the verdict to be anything but guilty on all or most charges. It has to be unanimous and one would have to imagine that it would take more than 21 hours of deliberation to convince them all to acquit. It is most likely guilty on all or nearly all charges.
Juries deliberate in many different ways, but they have to answer specific questions regarding guilt or innocence to each charge. They all have to sign the verdict sheet and they all have to agree on everything. Usually they take the verdict sheet and they do a straw poll and discuss if there is any dissension.
I consider it only fitting that I turn my TV to Nancy Grace.
NYT NEWS ALERT: Sandusky Is Found Guilty on 45 of 48 Counts in Child Sexual Abuse Case
Guilty on 45 of 48 counts, says the NY Times.
45 guilty, 3 not guilty.
I was right. 45 out of 48 counts guilty, per Andy Cooper.
CONVICTED ON 45 OF 48 COUNTS
Now, we wait for him to be killed in prison. Dead by the end of the year, likely earlier.
He'll be dead within a year...guaranteed.
How fitting...he was led out in handcuffs by a hot young cop.
Sandusky being lead out of courthouse.
Judge denies Defense plea to place him under house arrest.
He must be loving that hot court officer leaning over him and fastening his seat belt!!!
You will die while rotting in a concrete
Oh yeah. No showers.
You too Joe. Rot in Hell.
I knew someone would post about the hot cop!
I wonder if he even makes it to sentencing. I'm assuming he won't be in general population until then.
If given the choice he'd probably do it all over again, that fucker... he got his jollies for years and years and years....
Ninety days before sentencing. Placing bets now that he won't make it until then.
Send the wife away with him.
It's incumbent upon gay organizations to make a strong statement in support of the verdict, since. in a political year, the Republicans will inevitably link the crimes to homosexuality in order to stir the base.
He'll have a heart attack
He will have a sudden heart attack and "die."
The rich and powerful do not stay in prison for the rest of their life, not even country club prison.
He doesn't care about a hot [bold]adult[/bold] cop, R24.
The cop, while hot, is not in Jerry's preferred age demographic.
Someone post a pic of said cop.
The drama. The drama!!! Get me my smelling salts!!!!!
R31, isn't Sandusky a Republican?
I don't think they want to go there.
He will not kill himself.
his wife will shoot him
So, was Jerry molested? Does a molested person, molest?
He's in jail. I wish she would shoot herself.
His attorney is blaming the media and public opinion.
he was celested
Who knows, R42? It's my understanding pedophiles get stuck in some sexual developmental stage. I think there's probably a strong element of preying on those who are weaker.
That crowd hated Sandusky. I hope he realizes how most people feel.
Sandusky's attorney just said Matt was lying and that Jerry couldn't take the stand because of Matt. Blaming the victim again.
I'd be tempted to say Sandusky may kill off himself but suicide would be against his Catholic beliefs. (As opposed, say, child molestation.)
Sandusky's testimony would not have acquitted him. If anything, it would have buried him even deeper. He would not have made a good witness for himself.
R58: When he was first arrested, there were reports that he was on suicide watch.
Thou Shalt Molest Children is the 11th Commandment, isn't it?
Ow! Those crazy mid-Atlantic accents are making ME feel molested!
What kind of prison will he be sentenced to?
All he can really hope for is a country club prison right?
Funny, I always associated brown corduroy jackets with child molesters.
He won't kill himself for the same reason OJ didn't kill himself. He knows what he did but thinks its something he's entitled to do. He doesn't worry about what's to come because he knows that all his inferiors will eventually understand their folly and acknowledge that he did no wrong because, by definition, he can do no wrong.
That cop who spoke at the press conference was quite the stud.
Is that fat bitch friend on with Anderson?
He will be going to a State Penitentiary. The country clubs are minimum security federal prison camps. State prisons are much much worse.
There was a guy with a very nice ass standing in front of the court house. He had long, military green shorts.
Where is the official Penn State word?
meh... the hot cop isn't that hot.
The defense attorney is an ass
A delightful day of double justice in Pennsylvania. Fat fuck Msgr. William Lynn has been convicted of aiding and abetting pedo priests.
Every sexual predator we put in the pokey brings us closer to a society where sexual expression is consensual, responsible and non-exploitative.
I kind of feel sorry for the defense attorney because the last few days, he seems to have been telegraphing that he doesn't believe his own bullshit. He seemed to be dealing with the fact that he knew his client was guilty, he has to pretend his client is innocent, and he knows the best thing for everyone is that the client is out of circulation.
Tonight, though, he's sort of fallen victim to something that happens to plenty of people in contentious situations. He lost this case in the tangible way, i.e. he lost this case. Things might have gone the way he and everyone else thought it should, but, in black and white terms, he lost the case. That takes over; his goal is to overcome this loss, and thus his attack on another of Sandusky's victims.
The guy's best bet is if Sandusky swiftly gets to experience what it's like to be the victim of a predator, and his lawyer can move on.
To which Hollywood pedos are you referring, r74? Bruce Willis?
R8, that's what happens when you eat sushi.
The rich and powerful do not stay in prison for the rest of their life, not even country club prison.
Sandusky is hardly rich (pretty well to do, perhaps)or powerful.
"The rich and powerful do not stay in prison for the rest of their life"
1. That should be "lives" not "life".
2. Sandusky is not that rich or powerful anymore, and once he gets through paying millions of dollars in civil lawsuits, is going to be pretty poor.
Good, his wife can go live with her children...who refuse to tell her the truth because they were afraid of being kicked out of the will.
How could the wife not have known? He was always bringing boys over to the house and having them sleep over. What kind of a fucking red flag is that? Anyone would know something wasn't right.
Guilty on 45 out of 48 counts.
Now that he has been convicted and is going away forever, things may change in his family and among his friends. Up until now they may have stuck with him in the chance that he wouldn't be convicted.
When someone wealthy and powerful in the community is still not down and out, some of their supporters will stick with them. Now that the king is dead so to speak, they have less reason to stick by him.
And there won't be much money left once Sandusky gets through paying out all the civil lawsuits that are coming his way.
Sounds like the jury just wanted to go home and not be sequestered for the weekend so they said fuck it and just convicted him.
Have any of the legal experts explained why the jury didn't convict him on 48 out of 48? Not that it makes a huge difference, but why the number 45?
"The rich and powerful do not stay in prison for the rest of their life, not even country club prison."
"Sandusky is hardly rich (pretty well to do, perhaps)or powerful."
Sandusky isn't rich enough to buy his way out of jail, but he might have a bit of power... IF he has connections to powerful local pedophiles who don't want to be exposed. If he gets out early, that's the likeliest explanation.
Still, why should a powerful pedo submit to blackmail when it's so much easier to arrange an "accident"?
While he was being booked Sandusky asked if there were condoms and viagra in prison and were they free? I guess he's afraid to ask his wife for condoms out of fear she'll think he's fooling around in the big house.
Is it possible Sandusky's lawyer was trying to lay the groundwork for a mistrial by speaking to the press and speculating about a guilty verdict? Could Sanduskey hire new lawyers to claim his original attorneys didn't act in his best interest?
Not a mistrial, R89, but an appeal if they want to claim there was an issue with his representation. It's a common ploy, but it almost never works.
The first thing I noticed on the CNN page was the hot cop.
Damn... that was one hot cop.
You know, I don't really care for Nancy Grace, but when she signed off her special coverage of the verdict, she knocked it out of the park.
R42, all abusers were abused at some point in their lives. Without exception.
We live in a society that has shrouded abuse for decades (probably much longer than that). Noone was supposed to 'tell'. I went to a Baptist church / school as a child. Both the head pastor and headmaster of the school were abusers (though not with young children AFAIK). Their shenanigans went on for many years while the victims (mostly adult women) kept silent.
There is shame and embarrassment associated with being abused, which is why so many never come forward (which is too bad because their abusers can continue harming others).
With all the stuff happening with the Catholic church, and now this case, I truly hope that victims will have the courage to step up and get the monsters out of the general population.
The really really sad thing is that pedophiles are not able to be rehabilitated. They discovered, at best, therapy was able to suppress the urges for about ten years, and then they'd invariably start up again at first opportunity. It is unsafe for these people to ever again be part of society.
I wish MSNBC/NBC had different anchors covering the case life. Savannah Guthrie, who I do like, started it out, and then they pitched it over to Ed Schultz.
I know Lawrence O'Donnell doesn't work Friday nights, but I would have liked to hear what he had to say.
The Voice of the Night
Joe Amendola is still slime.
The Voice of the Night
VOTN, why not watch CNN? They've got the most coverage of it.
all abusers were abused at some point in their lives. Without exception.
Wrong, R95. That is a pernicious myth.
VOTN, why not watch CNN? They've got the most coverage of it.
I have moral issues with CNN.
And, as much as I dislike her, Nancy Grace did a hell of a job.
The Voice of the Night
Nancy did do a great job. She can be the Queen of Hyperbole, but she can also be one of the more effective legal analysts out there. I also agree that MSNBC really dropped the ball when they had Ed Schultz (who's, coincidentally, the King of Hyperbole!) lead their coverage instead of a more effective news analyst. I guess he's the best they could do on such short notice since, unlike CNN/HLN, a lot of MSNBC's more popular hosts are given long weekends.
I tried watching Anderson's coverage, but I got tired of listening to him stutter is way through a series of interviews. Thank goodness for Jason Carroll, who managed to salvage an otherwise embarrassing telecast.
Should make for an interesting Hot Topics on The View on Monday.
The Voice of the Night
Nancy did do a great job.
I'm never going to be a fan of hers due to the Duke LaCrosse thing, but there was something about watching her with tears in her talking about all the horrible things Sandusky had did....
I think that's the most genuine and honest she's ever been.
"But as I sign off, I want to say to you victims that spoke out, and to you victims that have not spoken out: I believe you. And thank God for the jury system that in this case worked."
The Voice of the Night
Whoopie will say it wasn't rape-rape.
I didn't realize till very recently that he molested his own son. His son was prepared to testify if Sandusky took the stand in his own defense. Clearly, if you'll molest your own son, you have no qualms about doing it to strangers. I hope he stays alive in prison a very long time.
I agree, I hope both he and Dottie have long lives so they can think about what they did.
R105, it should be noted that Matt Sandusky is Jerry's son in name only. He was adopted as a preteen.
He was adopted as a preteen.
Actually, he wasn't legally adopted until he turned 18, although he became a foster child at the Sandusky home at the age of 11. Matt's mother claims that Sandusky pretty much stole her son from her. She never gave up legal custody so Matt couldn't be adopted until he was 18.
I cannot believe you people admire somebody like Nancy Grace.
Nobody said they admire Nancy Grace, r109. One person specifically stated that he generally can't stand her, but felt she did a good job discussing this particular verdict. Another person agreed that she was good yesterday evening, but often is extremely hyperbolic. And nobody else said anything about her at all.
r110=Nancy Grace fanboy
Actually, r111, I cannot abide Nancy Grace. I tried to watched the clip VOTN linked to, just to see if NG really did, for once, do a decent job, but I had to turn it off after about 30 seconds, because I found her as gross and annoying as ever.
My comment at 110 reflects no love for NG; it simply reflects my ability to read and comprehend others' posts.
Part of me feels sorry for Jerry Sandusky. I hear he had a hard time fitting in.
What he did was horrible and absolutely destructive. He deserves to be taken out of society. There is something seriously wrong and dangerous about him. He is despicable. I'm also saddened and disgusted to go on Facebook today and see "friends" cheering on possible prison rape. I find ths mentality disturbing and as as well. We either live in a civilized society or we don't. But many of the salivating over prison rape today won't see that.
He really feels like he has done nothing wrong. I think he blames the boys for being seductive.
As far as an appeal goes, per Marcia Clark:
Sandusky's lawyer claims he'll get this overturned on appeal. No, he won't. I've been practicing appellate law for some time now, and let me tell you, getting a conviction overturned on appeal is very, very rare. And in a case like this, that hinges on credibility, it's almost unheard of. So don't worry. Sandusky will be locked up for life. He will never again molest a young boy. Game over.
Why are so many people here using terms such as "wealthy", "rich", and "powerful" when describing Sandusky. He was an defensive coach (read: assistant coach) in a popular STATE COLLEGE football program (it's not even the NFL). Regardless of the treatment star players get in these programas, the coaches get fair salaries and bonuses - not millions.
We've seen pictures of his modest, ordinary-looking boxcar house (how could he fit six kids and all the otheres there and have corners where Dottie couldn't spot them is beyond belief and the reason I think the bitch knew).
Any "powerful" friends in high places are distancing themselves from this evil man as we speak.
Let the civil suit chapter of this book begin. And the kids better be hitting Penn State hard Besides the fact that the Sanduskies will cry poverty, really the last 10 years of abuse by that monster are on Penn State's head.
The next chapter of this will be civil lawsuits again Sandusky but especially against Penn State.
They have money, r118. He kept that "modest...house" because it abuts an elementary-school playground.
They do not have money, R121. They were living within the salary of Penn State, which couldn't have been much. Also, the value of their house is modest.
r122, JoePa's official salary was $1M/year. Do you think his Defensive Co-ordinator, the man whom everyone credited with winning the championship vs. Miami, was paid, say, only $30K?
Also, "Jerry Sandusky made $456,000 from The Second Mile after admitting to hugging an 11-year-old boy while showering with him 1998, according to tax returns obtained by Deadspin."
I think we know that, with Jerry Sandusky, appearances can be deceiving.
I'm sure he has spread his money around to a few. Beside that, his defense probably cost a million.
They've had several months to shield their assets. I would be amazed if they haven't done so by now.
Is that fucking stupid lawyer the best that Jerry could buy?
In Pennsylvania where most lawyers would not have gone anywhere near that case, he's probably the best they could get.
r126, Sandusky is the tip of the iceberg.
All he was trying to do was shield the other high-profile people who were involved with The Second Mile.
They want to get it over with, and have Sandusky fade from the news cycle (& therefore the public memory) to allow everyone else to cover their asses.
There were interesting names (like Mark Wahlberg) on the board of that charity.
2 Penn State officials are already facing criminal charges.
It's the missing and presumed dead D.A. that interests me, r128.
Theory: The reason that the higher ups at Penn State kept quiet about Sandusky is that if Jerry went down for his crime, they would be going down for their crimes. There is probably more secrets hidden in Happy Valley than meets the eye.
Sarah Ganim just filed a good piece on the ongoing Penn State investigation, and especially ex-president Graham Spanier's likely culpability.
Ganim is the young reporter who won a Pulitzer for doggedly pursuing and then breaking the story of the Grand Jury investigation. She's got the local inside track on the case and is worth following.
Sports reporter and Penn State alumna Kim Jones was on the air a few days after the story initially broke. Has she spoken out since the verdict?
The Voice of the Night
Don;t be surprised if he is sent to a white collar prison due to the high profile case, his celebrity and advanced age, all in the name of his protection.
What were the not guilties and anyone know why they were?
He's going to a minimum security prison that has been announced. White collar is not for his type of crime. He is a child raping felon.
What were the not guilties and anyone know why they were?
I think they were related to what McQueary saw, because they couldn't get past reasonable doubt when McQueary was so evasive.
The Voice of the Night
Yes VOTN, also somehting about inconsistencies between what McQueary told to different people, one was a doctor I believe.
R136, did you mean to say 'maximum'?
The not guilty had to do with one charge relating to Victim 2. Although they believed McQueary, they could not convict b/c the jury couldn't agree as to whether their was evidence beyond a reasonable doubt that penetration occurred. They believe the boy was sexually assaulted as they found Sandusky guilty on all the other charges relating to that victim but not enough evidence that McQ saw Sandusky penetrating the boy.
One charge had to do with the kid who blacked out when Sandusky hugged him so tight the kid lost consciousness so he couldn't testify as to what Sandusky did in that shower incidence. Once again they did favor all the other charges except the one where the kid couldn't tell them exactly what occurred once he blacked out.
Third charge involved deviant sexual behavior. Once again the prosecution, accd to the jury, failed to present enough evidence. Accd to the jury they found that victim totally believable but the prosecutors didn't provide the evidence for a guilty in that one charge involving the victim. The other deviant sexual intercourse charge involving that particular victim recieved a guilty.
Why is proof of penetration necessary? Sexual assault is still assault even if it doesn't get that far.
I don't know R141, but maybe because rough penetration can cause injury?
The particular charge they found not guilty needed to prove penetration. All the other sexual assault charges on that victim were found guilty. The jury took their job seriously. They paid attention to the specific charges and had to vote based on the specifics in the law regarding the charges. That's how it's supposed to work. Maybe another jury would have found a guilty since McQ said he heard slapping noises that come with sex but that jury was focused on 'seeing' penetration since the victim wasn't there himself to testify that there was penetration. IF they victim was there to say there was penetration, I'm sure the jury would have voted guilty on that specific charge.
The verdict comes down next week, followed by the inevitable appeals.
Apparently Sandusky now intends to speak at his sentencing hearing. The blowhard can say anything he wants without any fear of being cross-examined.
Will there be any testimony from victims (or impact statements)?
Will there be any testimony from victims
No one wants to hear from those manipulative little liars.
His lawyer is bloviating just like the convicted felon Sandusky, just like OJ, just like MacDonald, to wit: try to bury the truth and reality under an avalanche of meaningless verbiage ad nauseam.
"Not enough time to prepare"???? Yeah, AS IF that's a legal reason for an appeal! Suspects would ask for YEARS to "prepare" their defense!
Liar client, liar lawyer.
It is grounds for appeal, R146.
But the standard is objective, not subjective. The appellate court will consider whether the preparation time allowed was "reasonable under all circumstances of the case", not whether the defendant was granted however much time he requested.
The release of his self-pitying taped statement was pretty extraordinary.
I wonder if he tongued any of that tight boi hole? Thoughts?
Sandusky is in totally denile, after making his statement.
That cop in R55's link looks UNCUT, non?
How many years did he get?
I hope he has to live in prison for at least three years...then he can die. Hope he is raped about a hundren times...maybe then he will understand about abuse?
Today's the first time I've seen photos of Dottie. She looks like she was built like a Sherman tank in her youth.
She a dyke. Fucking, lying bitch.
Yes. I thought the statement that his wife was his only sexual partner and that after marriage followed by our love continues weird. He wasn't tried and convicted of having sexual partners. He is an abuser and raper of kids.
Why didn't the kids just run or kick him in the nuts or scream and attract a crowd or just not go to the sleepovers. I think they liked it.
True, r147; I should've read before what I just read.
But in no way will Sandusky's defense prep time be considered inadequate.
Which statement revealed, r156, that not only did Sandusky molest/rape boys; he considered his victims to be "sexual partners."
IOW: He just re-convicted himself.
r157 = Dottie S.
What was the sentence?
30-60 years, r160.
Maybe it did feel good...sex feels good but not anal rape. That does not feel good at all.
Besides that, some of these kids probably did not want to be forced to hang out with this old guy but they were.
Watch Mysterious Skin...you will understand a little better.
After a certain point, some of the boys said that they didn't want to go. Their mothers thought the program would be good for them and did force them to go, unbeknownst to them what was happening. How many 12 year old boys want to admit anal rape to their mother?
Sandusky looked fucking awful!
I bet the old bastard dies within the next few years.
He'll be murdered well before he dies naturally. I'm surprised he's still alive.
Dottie's letter to the judge before sentencing.
Think the grammar mavens might have something to say.
