I read comics and when I read they were introducing a gay character in Archie, I had to read it. I give Archie credit for not only having a gay character but creating a new guy and not just retconning somebody - though Reggie did always wear a Speedo and have a bitchy side.
But Kevin is way too perfect in a universe full of imperfect characters. Most parents in Archie's universe often seem like they want to starngle their kids, but not Kevin's. I like how he is out but would rather have a flawed character than a boring one.
I think a lot of readers, especially younger ones, are going to get bored by a guy who succeeds at everything he does.
Perhaps we can give him a meth addiction and chronicle his downfall into the seedy underbelly of porn, drugs, and prostitution in Riverdale, OP?
He looks too femme-y.
They're trying. It's a slow process.
He's the best character in the Archie series, since Sabrina the Teenage Witch. I've only downloaded the Kevin Keller issues so far.
Kevin Keller is like a dreamboat, I wish he was real!
R1, you know what I mean. Archie and the gang are not perfect but everything Kevin does is perfect. He wins on a quiz show, he runs for class president and wins, his family is always smiling and cheering their perfect son on.
I'd rather he maybe borrowed his dad's car without asking and dinged it and tried to cover it up. Or made a date with two guys. Or hurts somebody's feelings. Even Betty has more of an edge.
Maybe he should r-r-rape Archie or Reggie...
There's a very special issue coming out where Kevin is ruffied by Moose and gang raped by the football team. The cartoonists doing the issue are from Falcon Studios.
He's the 2012 version of Chuck, Nancy and Valerie. The "minority" character that are at first trailblazing and controversial, but then become popular, well-loved and "just one of the gang". Such heralds of change rarely have any part of their gleam subjected to tarnish or any more controversy. It was only later, in the tumultuous Seventies when the subject of American racism could *not* be avoided even in "kids" comics, that the writers allowed Chuck to talk about racism. I recall a great, non -peachy cartoon where Chuck talked to a very understanding Betty about the grinding effect of systematic racism in Riverdale.
I just read the new issue, and I'm impressed -- Kevin is now in a love triangle with "bad boy" Devin and the closeted secret admirer who stood him up at the prom.
Kevin Keller is dreamy.
Once again, it's the idea that people have to overcompensate for being gay in order to be accepted i.e., being the best at everything, good looking, virtuous, etc. Why can't he be an average C+ student who occasionaly skips school?
Clearly Kevin is a victim of the velvet rage.
So, Kevin is a gay Sidney Poitiers?
Hold on. I thought he had an older Afro-American bf that was rolled around in a wheelchair?
[quote]So, Kevin is a gay Sidney Poitiers?
Poitiers? Aren't those what Mammy used to make Scarlett a green velvet dress?
This thread is useless without a drawing.
He's in a love triangle with a black football player/actor, a South African sprinter, and an eccentric yet legendary (Jewish) record producer.
Is KK a stereotypical queen? Or is he a butch, sports loving Adam Pally type?
Does anyone have any NSFW fan art of Kevin or slash stories?
I've got some pix of Lil Jinx slapping her pussy if that interests you.
Wasn't Jughead a closet gay?
Has it been canceled? A new issue was supposed to be out at the first of December, but they still have the Oct. issue (Kevin vs. Veronica) out at B&N and the newsstand.
I haven't read any of these yet, but is he friends with Betty? She was always my favorite.
Last issue will be in July. Sad.
Kevin is pretty perfect, but actually for kids at that age I think they need to see a character like Kevin Keller. He's handsome, he's got a good relationship with his dad, he's nice, he's partnered... they need gay role models like that. Besides, when you think about it, Betty Cooper is pretty perfect too (her only flaws are that she is often jealous of Veronica and that she can't have Archie's undivided attention).
I love Kevin too, but he needed to be a bit less perfect...frankly, like every other Archie character, he needed to be a bit of an asshole at times.
His final issue in July features him as a teen superhero called "The Equalizer" who apparently is into hoods and black rubber.
Archie Comics is promising a new Kevin Keller comic book series next year geared towards older kids (and gay men). He's too popular a character to ignore.
r25: Archie Comics has long trolled Slash Fiction sites to remove ALL Archie Comics sex stories - I've yet to see any Kevin Keller stories though I've seen NSFW fan art every so often.
President Barack Obama arrived in Palm Springs, California on Saturday via Air Force One to spend Father's Day playing golf. Hours earlier, he had lectured graduating students at University of California, Irvine, about the need to "do something" about climate change, mocking those who questioned that policy goal.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) encourages reducing unnecessary air travel to minimize carbon dioxide emissions. Golf courses are also frequent targets of environmentalists--especially in southern California, where a severe drought has placed a spotlight on golf courses' use of scarce water resources.
